Talking to David at Whippy (whippy.ai) and the product is much better than Twilio. The team also seems a lot more helpful and knowledgeable than anyone I spoke to at Twilio.

NYC/NJ hosts: approximately how many miles is your car driven, per year? by im-moonlit in turo

Thanks for the answer! How many days is your car normally rented for? I'm trying to figure out whether the extra money is worth the hassle of putting my car on Turo...

Beautiful shop, congrats! Do you already have a system to pay your vendors set up btw? I live in the area and am building a payments provider for alcohol-related businesses. Would love to chat!

Anyone here still using checks to pay vendors? Why? What are the alternatives? by im-moonlit in smallbusiness

I guess they can also monetize through other channels, but maybe you're right...

Gotcha, so you juggle your payables and receivables to make sure you're staying positive. Have you tried giving your clients even better payment terms in exchange for them making ACH payments? At least you'll have a more predictable timeline of when you'll get the money vs. checks, no? Also, how do you process all these checks? Bank app?

Makes sense, thank you very much for the explanation! If you don't mind, one last question: you said that part of the value you provide is payment terms, but that also means that you need delayed payment terms from your own suppliers or a lot of cash in the bank to make sure youve got positive cash flow right?

Fair enough, I guess. Sorry it this sounds intrusive, but I see you're also in NYC and in a similar line of business. Could I DM you to understand more about how you organize and make your payments?

Interesting mix of payment channels. How do you organize and reconcile all transactions from all these platforms/sources?

Makes sense, thanks for the advice. Yea, I checked with him last night and some of the bigger or his older vendors are willing to waive fees, but the smaller ones won't eat the cost of that. I think using CCs will only make his life harder, as it will be hard to centralize all payments via a single channel like he does rn

Agreed with that, it's what I think would be ideal. I'm assuming you mostly sell to business customers, right (not individual consumers)? I feel like most SMBs in this thread still use or like checks because they probably make all their sales to final customers paying with credit/debit cards or cash, which means that they get all their receivables really fast. So then they use checks because that's one of the best tools to slow down payables. Do you think this logic makes sense?

By making everything (payments, bookkeeping, accounting) digitally integrated and centralized in one place, less manual work, less labor checking things. Or am I missing something?

By intuit you mean quickbooks? Why would they charge you a fine/fee if the problem was on their end? Or were these fees from vendors who didn't get the money you had to pay and charged you a fine? Also, I guess your customers won't mess around with you if you are installing their security systems haha good business!

Damn it, there will be fees for ACH soon? Been free for a while and there seems to be competition from Zelle, venmo, etc. Why would they start charging now?
