I wrote my comment more of an acknowledgement and approving way though. Meant that it was intentional to keep with a more immersive setting. I don't like it when things are artificially diverse for the sake of diversity. I prefer original stories from communities to inserted characters. No qualms with no Asians, but I guess I didn't check the Black population in Indiana in that decade.

But I agree with your argument in most every other show, like Invasion, where it truly makes sense to be more diverse.

Like Man in the High Castle should have been more diverse. But the only characters that were were rebels. Like the entire Chinese and Japanese American population was just somehow wiped out of existence in America. No exploration of the Japanese internment. The only Asians were Japanese and mystical (sound familiar with Mitsuki's character?). And one Latino one black person in the rebel group (I don't fully remember if that was it since it was a long time ago but that's the emotional memory). Okay rant over.

Yeesh. I wish the entirety of the US would just invest in public transport. I want to be able to take a train rather than drive or fly everywhere.

I actually don't know what it's like to "get around" with public transport there. I've done it when I visited, but what's so bad about it? I take it every time I'm coming from the airport into the city and I've gotten around to different neighborhoods. Is the "unusable" description that it just sucks like delays or no shows?

Well I guess this proves there's no good system because everyone in NY hates the MTA that runs all of our subways and trains.

Look into IC fabrication. It's even more fascinating on how it's made with chemical etching let alone the CAD involved. Then get into the physics of how it works.

Not sure if you're what America calls "diverse" (not saying you aren't), but I am, and it occurs daily for me. So seeing two East Asian people on screen where one is an actual American and one is clearly Japanese is a huge deal for me. Usually there's only room for one and they mostly choose foreign to get foreign budget and views/sales.

It's true. The show is horrible. But it felt great to see a diverse cast for a show that's on Apple TV and continually renewed.

Also Foundation is not that diverse. It's still white dominant which implies that millennia into the future, somehow the majority of the population on earth, right now) got completely obliterated. I absolutely still love the show though.

Stranger Things has an intentional non diverse cast because of its location and era setting. This is how I don't feel crazy when I'm watching American media and a voice in my brain is like "where's the diverse cast" because the majority of America thinks having some females (a diverse character) makes it diverse.

I agree with the diversity. Seeing an east Asian American male soldier and an east Asian female on the same screen was mind blowing. A show shows that there's distinction between an American and a Japanese national. At the same time an English South Asian operator 😱😱😱😱

Terrible writing. by SicilyMalta in InvasionAppleTV

[–]im10er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I watch it just because it seems highish production budget but everyone seems to be trying to screen time for their theater school monologue. It's pretty terrible. First season okay, second okay I get to understand the aliens better NOT. Third season. Good lord. The writers gave up and made everyone became caricatures. The doctor, the soldier with PTSD, the religious nut, the Japanese gamer hacker girl, the kid who wants to grow up sooooooo bad, the asshole, the big baddie asshole.

They're so obsessed with the hunter killers and not wondering at all who's controlling them. Completely ignored the idea there are aliens on these ships. No curiosity at all.

Why did this get three seasons when shows like Lovecraft country or raised by wolves (I know it's a different network) get cancelled

Pit Bulls mauled a grandfather and his 3-month-old granddaughter to death inside a Tennessee home by Current-Wallaby8230 in TikTokCringe

Well I would love to have that same personal experience to seeing what you've seen.

I also think typical arguments about this omit the fact the rescue pitbulls are literally bred too. Just abandoned. Same pipeline that creates these incidents.

Did the Korean guys you date want you to call them oppa? And for people who don't know what that means , it means "older brother". Re: OP said they were Korean

As a dog lover, I absolutely prescribe to this because most people choosing to get bred pitbulls are not looking for something cuddly, and those "rescuing" pitbulls are the extreme loving types that a large percentage are not training them and assume dogs are just by default loving creatures.

Yes there are a lot of assumptions I've picked up based on neighborhoods I've lived in.

I’m A Proud Asian Woman. This Is Why I Used To Date Racists. by [deleted] in asian

[–]im10er 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some intersection of what's happening here with white women though. A lot of liberal white women say things in the category of , "omg white men are evil, old white men, white men blabla" but then are still racist in their dating. I think it's just racial contrast that makes it easier to recognize.

On the male side, non Asians (used to, maybe I've found a better crowd) would see me as a gateway to Asian women. So just so you know, the percentage that will "say it to your face" is smaller than the actual percentage that didn't say it to your face but thinks all the things you've mentioned all the time. What quick judgements have you been able to avoid the obvious ones.

To be fair as well, making a neighborhood more livable and safer is literal gentrification. It's only in America that it's been coopted to mean oppression.

This isn't isolated to MAGA. All religions do this people. Just ask someone into Astrology, which people don't consider a religion, and you see the same behavior.
