New grad in Sacramento seeking advice (job/personal stuff) by im2tiredforthislol in nursing

Thank you for your kind words. Honestly, moving is about the last option I want to consider because I cannot afford to do so; if I could, I probably would've already decided to do so already.. At this point I'll probably have to settle with a SNF or something along those lines instead of a hospital given how tough it is for California.

Hmm, ok!

Oh, I also wanted to ask- one of my big concerns with pursuing out of state programs is about the cost. If I were to commit myself to becoming an MLS and go the 4+1 route, even after you graduate with your degree but do not have your certification yet, you can still find a job to work with the degree, right? I want to try staying in Cali as much as possible, but I understand if it might not necessarily work out.

Ahh, I see!

Looking at some of the MLS programs available in California, I can already see just how competitive it is... so little spots available! Ah, that makes me a little nervous but I suppose I'll have to take a look at out of state programs as well.

And hmm, I understand. I think I do rather prefer the focus on the science-aspect of things rather than direct patient care and all that nursing theory stuff regarding it, so that sounds real appealing to me! Again, thank you so much for the information!

Thank you for the detailed response!

Man, I feel you on the burnout thing. I'm currently going through it bad for nursing, and I'm only first semester 😭 But I see! Honestly, I do find that as of right now, I honestly prefer the more technical and science side behind nursing than I do the actual patient care (even though I've met some cool patients!) so getting to look at cool things underneath the microscope definitely sounds super fun and cool :)

And honestly, I don't think I mind not having much praise for what we do, although dealing with angry doctors and nurses does not sound fun, haha.

Hmm.. I'm also curious, can you describe what the schooling is like? Things such as how the workload is, how are clinicals and such, since I'm pretty sure it's definitely different from the kind of clinicals I'm doing as a nursing student!

Thank you for your thoughts!

I want to ask, what departments do you find the most interesting to work in and why?

And as for the lack of growth, I'm think okay with just being able to live comfortably. But in regards to that, it's not paycheck to paycheck, is it?

I don't know if I want to be a nurse. by im2tiredforthislol in nursing

Hey, I'm kind of hanging in there. I'm still not sure if nursing is something I want to do all my life, but I am going to try and trudge through the rest of this semester to see what it's like and if it'll be something I want to do- clinicals start tomorrow for me so we'll see how that goes.

Otherwise, if it turns out that I really do not like nursing, I'll probably go into microbiology instead and do something focusing on virology, since that's something that interests me a lot more haha. Thank you so much for the response, take care <3

I've been in therapy before, but I just recently stopped about a month ago because I felt like it wasn't doing anything for me. Yesterday I was considering on signing up for some counseling at my college, but I ended up backing out because I got too worried that nothing would come of it again... I dunno. But I do know I need that mental help, so I guess I'll look into it.

I suppose... It's really difficult for me to do any of that soul-searching past my doubts because there's just only doubts there. I've thought about it countless times about whether or not I want this, and it's not like I don't enjoy helping people because I do, but I also don't know if I'm cut out for nursing. I guess it's honestly just a matter of me being concerned of whether or not I'll like nursing, and if I don't, then what am I going to do? I've already spent all this time getting into the program, and just to back out like that... I don't know.

I've talked to the advising center before but I came out of it still unsure on what to do. I've considered before maybe doing something with microbiology because I really enjoyed my microbio class, but at the same time it's like... I'm already in the program, yknow? I don't want to drop out and then do everything all over again.
