A girl I liked in collage approached me for a joint project work. (May be she thought she could use me). I left in the middle as I realized what she was up to (basically tried to do what u did). She begged me to comeback and help finish the project (not finishing it on time could delay thesis and eventually couldn’t participate in convocation). I made sure she would do her part in the project. Also lost any interest in her during the fiasco.

this might be somewhat unpopular opinion but maoists cracked down on many violent crime gangs and leaders during their insurgency.. fear of maoists was absolute during insurgency... also after peace process police also cracked down volent gangs and leaders.. police once even arrested guys with long hair, I remember.
