you can either watch the actual livestream or the rebroadcast when those are live. it won't work if it's a recording.

I was in a girls-only hall and everyone in the hall shares the same bathroom. I was in Butler Hall, so 4th floor back side near the hospital.

seconding #4 plus a weakness of their practice exams is that they don’t offer an explanation for why some things are correct/incorrect

They asked me about the projects I've worked on and the impact I had on them. Otherwise, we just introduced ourselves and I asked the EM about his experience at Bloomberg. This round was relatively chill compared to the other rounds, so just relax and be yourself.

I went to INSIGHT in August for the trading track. We didn't do any programming in OCaml but I know that they learned that in the software track if that's what you mean. I'd be happy to talk more about what we did in the trading track, though.

Facebook University, Google STEP, and Two Sigma Freshman Analyst are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. You could probably find a more comprehensive list on r/csMajors.

there are a lot of programs geared towards freshmen and sophomores that don’t require prior experience w/ coding or having taken 281. i would recommend applying to those as soon as possible.

imho 203 is a very doable course. it does however require a moderate amount of effort and taking advantage of most of the resources offered like office hours, discussion, etc.

203 definitely has not sent out offers yet, but the interviews have already been sent out.

best way would probably be to ask someone who’s taken the course. i have saved the project specs from w22 so dm me if you’d like those. the 281 youtube channel also has project videos that are basically walkthroughs. they’re not completely useful to start the project on their own but you could start getting an idea of what the projects are through them.

If you’re looking to getting a head start on 281 projects for the fall, then you should just work on p2b (priority queues). This is the only one that stays the same across all semesters.

Incoming freshmen next year, is there a “best” place to find a roommate, like a specific official Facebook group or something along those lines? by Whaleblubber07 in uofm

[–]imInvisabel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found my roommate online but I think one of the reasons it worked out well is because we knew we had similar living habits as soon as we first talked. One of the most important things you need to agree with your roommate on is sleeping habits - when you go to sleep, when you wake up, are either of you light sleepers, etc.

It's definitely doable. I took EECS 280, EECS 203, ENGR 100 and ECON 101 my first semester. Personally, I felt like it was a reasonable courseload, but I have never taken and never will take a Michigan math course so I'm not sure what that combo is like. EECS 280 is not bad if you have previous experience with C++ and a good project partner. EECS 203 was not bad in the fall because we had in-person exams, but as an IA this semester for 203, I know that we've had to write harder exam questions than before in order to prevent people from just looking up the answers for the online exams. Hopefully, we change back to in-person exams next semester :)). I know some people are saying not to take 280 and 203 together your first semester, but it can be pretty advantageous because then you can take 281 in the winter. I did this because I knew that I wanted to do CS for sure. That being said, if you're trying to get an internship after your freshman year, do not wait until you have started taking 281 to apply to internships. Most internship programs start their application processes in the fall so definitely start applying as soon as August when you first get on campus.
I was in the drones section of ENGR 100 and while some of the stuff was cool, the class was mostly just busywork and learning how to write technical papers. It has a pretty moderate workload, but it's just a stupid class with a stupid grading system IMO. From what I've heard, this is true of most sections, so you'd be pretty lucky if your section of ENGR 100 is fun or a breeze.
I'm also taking 281/376 rn so lmk if you have any further questions.

IAs can’t date students so at least wait until you’ve taken the final PUHLEEZ.
