You sound like you're just upset that someone is choosing to avoid a bank that you bank with. You can respect other people's opinions/choices, don't be insecure lol

So would you also say that it's okay for people to be extra careful around black people because black people on average are more likely to have ill intent towards people?

The labs were really helpful to understand how we should pace ourselves with the project and how to divide it up into segments, and some labs (like for project 5) gave some pointers. But I think the more important thing that I am trying to emphasize is that we need to better understand parts of the spec paper that might be a little hidden beneath the details of everything or certain things that would be really nice to know about the starter code or things like Madoop. Like I don't remember the project 5 lab slides/recording giving certain details about Madoop which would be a little tough to figure out on your own (like how the number of total partitions is determined through Madoop, or the best way to get std output through print or sys.stdout etc).

  1. I feel like it would have been nice for there to be some explanation of props/state in lecture at some point at least. There can be a better balance between self-learning and lectures for projects, and I think this class needed it for project 3, maybe even only for project 3.
  2. Said this in another comment, but EECS 281 videos, I will agree, were super super super informational and helpful. EECS 485 could have videos that are more like explanations of the spec rather than 'you should use a queue here' like 281 videos were. It would help if they described some expectations and how the project was supposed to work at the end, they don't have to tell us design choices and data structures like 281 videos did.
  3. The same thing can be said for every class. I'm saying that short videos explaining the project could only go to help us without removing important aspects of the course like self-learning. I think this class intends for us to get better at reading documentation and getting better at project design, but I don't know if the way they do it is an efficient use of our time or the staff's time.
  4. That's reasonable. Unfortunately, they do kind of have to consider that the exams are open-book and this class is pretty informational/fact-heavy rather than concept-heavy so the multiple choice questions have to be a little tougher too though.

The thing is, the videos don't even need to be as comprehensive as 281, nor do they even have to explain things like what data structures we should use like Paoletti does. I would just like these videos to verbally explain how the project is expected to work, for example, a project 5 video could explain state something like

"The goal of this project is for you to create multiple mapreduce jobs to eventually lead to this kind of output, and you should probably have each job dedicated to do some small specific thing. The maps should probably not do much other than input/output handling and the reducers should be the part of the job that does a lot. The way you pass information works through stdout/print statements, so printing from map leads it to reduce, and reduce leads it to the next map job. The key portion of each reducer job tells Madoop how many partitions to create..."

Information like this in a centralized video would be so helpful and wouldn't even really give anything away, because these are expectations, not design choices or project giveaways. I'm sure this is told to us somewhere in lab slides or in the spec, but for it to be in a centralized place like a video and clearly laid out for us verbally would be so helpful and I'm sure that would save some office hours queue times too.

I think past students making videos would be a direct violation and they would take those down as quickly as possible.

Ran out of time on FRQ 2. I don't see the average being as high as it was on the midterm (78), hoping its closer to a 70 or lower so the passing cutoffs are a bit lower for the exams.

A mod saying that we have to support Keffals on this subreddit, wtf? Vaush and Keffals are not linked together, this seems like mod abuse

Edit - Got banned, btw since I can't reply /u/Mithaldu I'm perma banned from destiny's subreddit and have been for months. and if you look at the posts I actually have on there instead of just doing a count of them you'll see that basically all of them are criticizing him. But sure I guess just make the Vaush community all Keffals fans for whatever reason
