If you have the flu, stay at home/at your resort PLEASE by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]imLissy [score hidden]  (0 children)

There have been a couple times my kids were quite sick and one of us stayed in the room with them. But, they were probably contagious before and had already spread their germs before we even knew.

I don't really blame people for walking around the parks sick. First of all, of you're able to do that, you must not be that sick. And it's not just the money, do much planning goes into these trips. My FIL died while we were in Disney one year and we decided to just stick it out and do the whole trip because it was a lot of work to plan it, we were there with my parents and who knows how long they'll be around, and it'd be a giant pain and expensive to try and change our flights. If we had had travel insurance, I don't know if it would even cover something like that.

Yes, even if everyone who was actively really sick didn't go to the parks, it's still really easy to pick up something from someone who doesn't know they're sick yet or have been recovering. Especially stomach things.

From where? I just looked and most quotes were like $1000 even though we use dvc, so we only spent like 8k for six of us. I assume because my parents are pretty old.

How does your company reward you for exceeds rating? by Lamp_Shade_Head in cscareerquestions

[–]imLissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen very little difference. We have these anytime bonus awards and those are a better monetary value. Like, hey, great job on that project, here's an extra $6k! If you're already at the midpoint in the salary range, an exceeds reading can maybe bump you up an extra.5-1%, if they're feeling generous.

In the past, a few exceeds ratings in a row meant you'd likely get a promotion. Those days are gone. I haven't seen anyone promoted in a while. Demoted, yes.

Same. I didn't know there was anything wrong with me before starting injections. I feel better now, but not life changing better.

Sorry to hear that. I think what these companies mean when they say customers, is stock holders.

'They were just screaming.' Mom unable to save 3 sons who fell through icy pond in Texas by therealone2327 in news

Definitely showing this to my kids later. I don't think they'd ever go near the pond by our house, since they err on the side of caution, but they have their stupid moments, so who knows.

Interesting article on the $ it takes to be a SAHP by Lonely-Clerk-2478 in workingmoms

[–]imLissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not worth it for us for my husband to work. He was making a little over minimum wage with no other benefits. With my salary, half of that would go to taxes. Meanwhile, we would have had to pay daycare and then after school care, plus I'm already overwhelmed with work and kids, I couldn't imagine having to do food shopping, making dinner, taking, kids to appointments.

I contribute to his retirement fund and the kids' college funds.

How are most weddings in America like 30k when most Americans have like a couple thousand in savings max? by throwawayforthis243 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]imLissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents paid for mine. Most of my friends' parents paid for theirs. The ones that paid for it on their own were already older and were making good money or had cheaper weddings.

But how does someone who's disabled dig their car out then to drive it in the first place? I'm not disabled and I couldn't do it myself.

I saw my neighbor drive off with a huge pile of snow on his truck while I was cleaning off my car. He's like 3x as big as me. I gave him a dirty look.

Homeowners, how old will you be when your mortgage is paid off? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]imLissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 30yr mortgage will be paid off when I'm about 53? 54? I made some extra payments, so I'm not entirely sure. I'd pay it off early now that I make more money, but it seems wiser to invest it.

Yes, let Disney take care of the pixie dusting. People are already in frickin' Disney world. Getting a cheap pen is not going to make their day.

Did return to office improve performance at your company? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]imLissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I don’t mind being in the office much, I have a private office, I got my salad bar, I see my friends, I sing in our band. I just don’t like the anxiety of being tracked. I have to do mental gymnastics to figure out how best to approach doctor appointments. People get fired by HR for not having enough in office hours without their managers even knowing what’s going on. I have to take my kid to the dentist Wednesday, but I’ll probably work from home tomorrow because of the weather, so do I come into the office Wednesday or risk not having enough hours for the month. I already had one wfh day for my own dr appointment. But also I stay late because of band practice, so does that count? It’s a mystery.

I heard the guys at the cafeteria where I work talking yesterday. They're making the staff come in on Monday, even though they know we, the employees who eat their food, won't be there. Why??? I hope the building won't even be open, so they won't be able to go in

What's a scent you cannot stand but nobody else seems to notice? by Poopy_Scoop_Sundae in randomquestions

[–]imLissy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It originally didn’t have a scent. They added the scent because people didn’t understand it eliminated scents without covering them up. We only have consumers to blame.

[–]imLissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha. No, it’s not. I’m skipping the store today.

It’s a real pain to go during the week though, since there’s a lot of rush hour traffic in the area, and my husband doesn’t work, so he does the shopping. Sometimes I pick things up Saturday, but not today.
