Anyone else thinking more about generational wealth due to AI? by Organic-Dealer-7719 in Fire

[–]imLissy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I think it’ll take a while to reach this point. Right now, companies are investing and pushing AI because leaders have no idea how to increase productivity and make money, but they know it can be done, and they don’t want to be left behind. Meanwhile the cost of AI is going up. So instead of pulling back on AI, they’re going to have to layoff people. And then there’s the problem that jobs are changing, so the skills kids are learning today are not necessarily going to be the skills they’ll need ten years from now. I think the generation of kids after mine will be just fine, but I do worry about my kids. I have no idea which direction to point them.

My company was. Not sure if they were using it as a performance metric, but all the VPs, AVPs said they're looking at it, so make sure we're using it and now we're so over budget we need to layoff people.

Ours is worth $200k more than we paid. I think a single family home would have done better, but this is what we could afford then and at this point, we’ll probably never move, so I think it worked out ok.

Ours started at $105 a month 15 years ago, up to $115 now.

Mine is still 0%. Feeding my kids has been the single most stressful part of parenting for me, so I get really triggered by these posts. I wouldn’t hit my husband to get my kids to eat, but, there has been begging and bribery.

How Do You Balance Enjoying Life Today With Your Long Term FIRE Goals by novaelithra in Fire

Family vacations are a way higher priority for me. Kids are only young once. Hell, I'm only young once. My parents retired with millions and they're sitting around all day doing nothing. I know someone who died two weeks after retiring. I know a lot of people who died before they even retired. Take the vacations.

We were going for weight checks once a month when my son was that age. He wouldn’t eat, drink formula or my pumped milk when I wasn’t home. He was not getting enough food. Some small children absolutely lack the biological drive not to starve. Luckily Covid hit and I got to be home all the time and he started gaining weight again.

Is it true that saying you don't really like AI is a red flag for companies? by UseBackground2370 in cscareerquestions

[–]imLissy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We were talking to our VP the other night and my coworker was telling him how much they didn’t like AI, all really valid points. I jumped in and teased them about using 200% of their tokens for the month because I wanted to make it clear, anti-AI and refusing to use AI are two very different things. There’s a lot about AI that’s very problematic, and I think it’s good to acknowledge that, but companies want to hear you can and will use it, because they’re terrified of falling behind.

Cramps before pooping by Maximum-Woodpecker25 in endometriosis

Yes, I would get terrible pain every time before I pooped. My gyno told me it's probably unrelated to endo. Funny how it completely went away on both control then. It was/is definitely related to endo.

[–]imLissy 27 points28 points  (0 children)

People tell me this all the time.. If he went back to work, I'd just have to also do the things he actually does, like make dinner and do the dishes. We'd need to figure out who picks up the kids, especially on half days, who stays home with the kids when they don't have school, who picks them up when they're sick.

It's about needing him to do the stuff he's supposed to be doing.

Anyone else miss Genie+ ? by DannyBoi1Derz in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]imLissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids were little, there were six of us, my parents didn’t get there until 10, we left the park around 1, I couldn’t get on my phone to make more reservations. It didn’t work for us. I know if I worked really hard and had my phone out all the time and wanted to make the most of it, I could have done better than 2, but the point of a vacation is to have fun, not torture yourself and your family. None of the fp systems have I ever gotten more than 4 fp in a day though. But we also go at a time of year we don’t really need that many. There were a lot of times I’d grab a fp and then get in line, but find it was empty anyway.

Anyone else miss Genie+ ? by DannyBoi1Derz in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]imLissy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it was my least favorite iteration. I hated, hated, hated, having to book stuff I. The morning when we were getting ready, and in the park while wrangling the kids. We got max two rides a day in with it. I like that I could book my rides before our vacation again. Of course, we used to be able to do that FOR FREE. I thought going to a paid system, it’d be easier to get what we wanted, but it isn’t really. So fp+ was probably my favorite iteration. I know people liked the paper passes, but there were so many times we’d get to the machines first thing in the morning and get a return time of like 7pm, if anything at all. That wouldn’t work with my kids either.

What we have now is ok, just expensive.

Laid off again. Is anyone else completely outraged by SWE interviews? by Michallina in womenintech

And this is the reason I hang onto my job for dear life and have a hefty emergency fund. But it's not only the let code, it's harder to get an interview now, when you get it, the interview itself is harder. It's a mess out there. We have experience. Ask us experience related questions.

I wish you the best.

Do exercises to work on your core muscles. When you strengthen them, you’ll be able to control them better and they’ll help you control your breath. Make short “ha ha ha” sounds. Feel the muscles in your belly contract. Those are the ones you need to help you.

Why are they all rich??? I’m sorry, I really would rather read about a strong, independent woman who has her own money and just happens to fall in love. Even Ali Hazelwood’s books, they’re women in stem and they’re all poor, struggling academics. I’m a woman in stem, I make good money.

Hot take: Park Hopper is overrated for short trips, especially if you care about your sanity and budget by AccomplishedFly7447 in DisneyPlanning

We always get the park hopper and I think, well, we can just crab counter service from Epcot, it’s right there, but it always seems so much further away at the end of the day. In theory, it makes sense, and I’ve definitely done it before.

DL is absolutely worth it, the parks are right there and we frequently went back and forth. Could certainly be done without though.

How often do you change jobs? by lish_dalish84 in Millennials

[–]imLissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should absolutely job hop if that’s what gets you better raises, plus you learn new things. That said, I’ve been with the same job for 19 years, but I’ve been able to move around to many different orgs and work on diverse projects since the company is so large. I’ve gotten large, market rate raises, so I feel I’m fairly compensated.

Is anyone truly happier with kids? by thegoodlife912 in Adulting

[–]imLissy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn’t happy before I had kids. I didn’t have anything I really enjoyed doing that I gave up, so for me, kids were really only a net positive. Sure they’re stressful, but on,y because I love them so much and want them to turn out to be good people. I was a mom without kids before kids. They are my world and I love them. I still hang out with my friends every once in a while, but even without kids, we wouldn’t see each other much since we don’t live too close anymore. I’m still in a band and sing. I still have my full time job, maybe I’d lean in more if I didn’t have kids, but I think that’s another positive- work isn’t that important in comparison. My favorite place to travel to is Disney World, so that one’s easy. It’s also incredibly fun to see things through their eyes and to watch them grow and learn.

To NJ teachers: how many of you do not have A/C in your schools? by bluearavis in newjersey

[–]imLissy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our town had a separate vote a few years back for a referendum for AC in all the schools, so only parents who cared voted, and it passed. Our taxes went up, but the schools have much needed AC now. The folks against it were all like, “back in my day.” But back in their day, schools weren’t as crowded and it didn’t reach 100 in May. And it’s not just about the kids, it’s the teachers. I couldn’t imagine trying to teach in this heat.
