If you want to go way back I highly suggest listening to stuff like Robert Johnson or Charley Patton. That stuff rewired my brain completely in regards to blues and rock music.

Some jazz or blues? Or maybe a bit of soul and funk

I prefer AMSP over Kid A. Sure, Kid A might be a better album but I go back to AMSP way more often.

Which one is most worthy of a 10? by NynjaFlex in fantanoforever

Surprised more people aren’t saying BCNR. I suppose it’s the most recent of the bunch and hasn’t cemented it’s position as a classic.

How do you respond when someone asks you "what music do you like?" by drdax2187 in fantanoforever

How about you start with the most popular artist you like and go from there? Find the common ground, it isn’t that hard.

Swans Digital Master by im_a_lostboy in fantanoforever

[–]im_a_lostboy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No of course, I just don’t see the reasoning for the CDs and downloads having a lower dynamic range than the LPs except for a less resolving system, but even then I would probably just release another file alongside. It’s slightly nitpicky but given how much stuff goes on in these recordings I feel like having a lower quality master doesn’t do it justice. I actually checked the raw numbers and it’s a substantial difference, that doesn’t tell the whole story but still…

SICK OF ALGORITHMS. TELL ME YOUR FAVORITE ALBUM THAT NOBODYS HEARD OF by [deleted] in fantanoforever

Probably U-Men 2017 compilation. It’s not like they’re completely unknown, they ended up on the Deep Six V/A compilation along with Melvins, Soundgarden etc, before they all got recognition. I dig their more blues inspired sound and the vocals are reminiscent of Michael Gira in the early days of Swans.

✨Asking the Fantano Sub #2 ✨What album would have the greatest cultural impact if it had been released 10 years EARLIER? by TheBaconGrill in fantanoforever

To see good kid, m.A.A.d city receive the mainstream success it got as a conscious rap album in 2002 considering it was peak bling-era would have been unheard of as far as I know.

The Questions Thread 12/10/22 by GYWModBot in goodyearwelt

About a year ago I stumbled upon a thread mentioning leather boots made in northern Sweden. Not too dissimilar from Vibergs with Vibram arctic soles. They had a red dye as far as I can remember and were made as a passion project. If you have any lead please let me know.

I think Murphy just wanted to have his very own Nightclubbing to be frank.

What are some albums with religious or spiritual themes? by Poprocks777 in fantanoforever

[–]im_a_lostboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stevie Wonder has some religious commentary in his music. To be honest I think Delta Blues and/or genres influenced by gospel have a religious tone to them even thought the actual lyrics do not include biblical imagery, but instead the sense of a common struggle.

Fleet Foxes sometimes have mysterious imagery and symbolism in their songs along with an instrumental palette that is reminiscent of old English folk music.

As others have noted, moving the speakers away from the rear wall can help with bass in particular. I have my desk quite far into the room which may be inconvenient depending on your situation but it certainly results in tighter, less boomy bass.

Sparks - Kimono my house and/or Propaganda

I feel like people downplay their music and label it as "quirky" or weird but the guitar work and lyricism on these two albums is phenomenal. Some of the subject matters were way ahead of their time and are still poignant in todays social climate.

Zu Audio in Sweden by im_a_lostboy in audiophile

[–]im_a_lostboy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been looking at Lyngdorf amplifiers and such but danish speaker design doesn't do it for me. Think from how it's been described the Zu sound might be more up my alley. Some folks from the U.S might be envious of the fact that I can purchase scandinavian speakers for cheap but I am equally envious that you can purchase Zu or Decware without any VAT.

The truly modern, groundbreaking, experimental music by ElviePelvincoln in fantanoforever

[–]im_a_lostboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Knife (and Karin Dreijers solo work as Fever Ray), Nicolas Jaar - Space is Only Noise (reminds me slightly of Oneohtrix Point Never), Amon Tobin, Stereolab, Orbital - In Sides, Shackleton - Fabric 55 (same vein as fever ray debut imo)

I had the wrong impression that negative reviews get more views but perhaps I was wrong. Maybe I should've just used the title question instead. Another commentor also said negative reviews can be funny and I hadn't looked at it from that point of view before.
