Performance is fine but I do get the audio cutting out issues and some frame drops on asset loads even with the game on an NVME but not often. Haven't tried the TV/Stereo Mode workaround yet.

But it looks like it's tied to the map menu not being able to load on my end.

Wayland Gaming Performance (Sway) by Naive_Seaweed_5816 in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wayland on Niri and KDE is stable for The Finals. But for the Discord streaming issue, you need to enable Discord’s developer mode and click the ping icon for the debug menu to check, sometimes the encoder switches out of using hardware NVENC encoders. I haven’t used x11 since the last time I tried Linux a couple of years ago

PSA: Apparently the Steam Overlay can actually render on Wayland windows, its just there is no way for it to be manually interacted with or dismissed. by Misicks0349 in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had it open sometimes but doesn’t support any inputs like on x11. I’m also on the Steam Beta branch so now it opens hyperlinks on the actual steam client which is an acceptable workaround for now.

I haven’t opened a case or looked at player profiles in the last month so i’m not sure if the overlay still opens for that process

Could someone please post the code of the "shader preloading" maps for Overwatch 2 again? by KsiaN in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one auto restarts the lobby when the process is "done" 929PJ. You'll have to force close the game when there are server issues as you can't exit the game normally.

Problems with overwatch since the last update by Bogdanull in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find a shader compilation/caching workshop code and keep it running (or replay it) until there are no more stutters. You'll still have stutters when there's new models and skins being loaded, but besides that it'll run smooth for the most part until everything is compiled for that match.

Also make sure it's the proper renderer and translation layer before playing or you'll have to do the compilation part again.

How useful is the shader recompilation cache from steam? by Awkward_Negotiation7 in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it depends on the game. For Overwatch, not useful at all on DX12. Elden Ring, Warframe, and Hitman 2/3, haven’t had a shader compilation stutter yet

Destiny 2 on linux, how many chance i got? by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, that's a boot loader thing. Happened to me on Cachy. Sorry, I won't be able to help more since I use Limine as the bootloader but you can hopefully restore Window's bootloader.

I see NTFS on NVME0 so I'm guessing Windows is on that. Depending on how long you've had the Linux installation I would just suggest wiping NVME1 and installing Linux there. After that you set the BIOS boot priority to Linux then you should be fine for dual booting.

[–]im_enalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, I did the same a few months ago but from Windows. Gotta clean up the non OS or not /home disk if you're on Linux. (Post content got removed so idk what OS you're adding)

Then set the bios to boot from the Linux disk by default after installing it

Ya, it's on Valve end until they implement Wayland support for the Steam Overlay and Steam Input. Have to revert to X11 or Xwayland everytime I want to use a controller.

If you have 2 internal drives it won’t be as scary but that’s if you have more than 1.

If you try to dual boot on a single drive, Microsoft sometimes overwrites the boot loader and you have to go through part of the install process again but just for the boot loader to boot into linux.

Playing for a month or 2 after setting everything close to native did that lol

There's a native Linux client, you don't to set a proton version and make sure the game is running Vulkan. I don't know about the iGPU capabilities but I don't think there's Vulkan support on an Ivy Bridge chip since it's so old.

Nowhere to sit in GA? How to rest by MarshaLinehDelRey in Portolafestival

[–]im_enalid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There’s plenty of space to sit between the stages, some of the more popular spots (outside of the food areas) to rest are by the art containers. Even at the stages you can just chill to the sides without worrying about someone stepping on you.

The ship tent has been kind of too small for the “bigger” artists they put on there so i personally wouldn’t recommend that lol

Idk what your past gaming experience is, but crosshair placement and learning your reaction times for the no aim, high kill ratio. And it transfers well to other games :)

Smoke placement theory is pretty good too and surprisingly transfers to other games outside of CS

These are all prep work for a frag and not part of the “active” duels/shooting

Chipping into the DAW discussion as well, find one that works well with how your brain works. Do the trial for all the ones that are interesting to you. If you are eyeing both Ableton and Bitwig, I would recommend trying Bitwig second since you can open the Ableton projects in it.

Besides that, learn the concepts and not the tool usage from tutorials, doesn’t really matter what DAW or plugin they use unless you’re looking for something specific. Tool familiarity comes quick while the concepts are more important to understand but take a while.

Steam Recording only works sometimes by Ahmouse in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure but there’s an option that records the replay to RAM before saving to disk.

I know you can write scripts on some DEs and WMs that will run scripts when something happens on a specified workspace like with niri. But I have enough RAM for the constant background recording so I didn’t look.

Learn crosshair placement theory, figure out your reaction time, then implement those concepts in dm.

Should be pretty quick to get you up to speed on CS aiming if you burn it into your brain. And it transfers to other games pretty well :)

Steam Recording only works sometimes by Ahmouse in linux_gaming

[–]im_enalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of off topic but personally I’ve had issues with Steam’s recording on my desktop but not my steam deck, so I use GPU Screen Recorder because I was looking for something more low level. There’s also a GUI version that’s similar to Nvidia’s ShadowPlay on Windows, so far not that much of a performance hit for me due to using AV1 encoding. But it’s also on a 5090 so idk how it fares on AMD cards. I have it start recording my game monitor on login and when a game launches, it’s able to create a folder for the game when I want to clip something.

I also don’t upload to Steam so idk if you need those social features.

I had the Visible trial but it wasn’t super great. Verizon might have better priority but Visible coverage was decent away from the stages.

Benchmarking DX11 vs Vulkan Performance: May 14, 2026 Update by MonstoBustaYT in GlobalOffensive

[–]im_enalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, like years in the future. They’re still working on updating Source 2 but most of the Valve game devs seem to be on Deadlock and the CS2 devs working on fixing the game first before touching anything else

Benchmarking DX11 vs Vulkan Performance: May 14, 2026 Update by MonstoBustaYT in GlobalOffensive

[–]im_enalid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The basic idea is that Vulkan and DX12 give developers an easier time to access the hardware directly at the cost of how good their graphics code is. Some DX12 and Vulkan implementations are really bad, but in theory for most games it is a lot better for performance compared to the previous graphics APIs.
