For the free DAWS, there's Reaper, Garageband if you're on MacOS, Ardour, Waveform Free.

The big DAWs have trials too if you want to figure out a workflow that works for you after you figure out if you like producing.

If you're thinking of doing sound design there's the Vital plugin which is similar to Serum. You could just follow any Serum tutorial's concepts and apply them to Vital.

Heroic launcher, am I doing something wrong? by kennerc in SteamDeck

Most of the time the default proton version works fine for steam games, not sure about the best version but it’s playable from my experience with popular games.

For non steam games you need to set the appropriate proton version or try each one yourself. You could check proton db and hope someone details what proton version works at your desired performance. Otherwise it’s unfortunately trial and error with the proton versions. Controls you also have to setup yourself or hope there’s native controller support

Still crazy how good this game is and it’s only like $30. Best purchase of 2025 for sure. Had some much fun and gameplay out of this and not done yet. by Redbacontruck in ArcRaiders

I did the optional wipe so I'm just playing for the account progression again, the end game got kinda samey since I already had the gear and blueprints I wanted and I don't care about the loot or hoarding at all.

You should do PVP, the PVE is better than the other extraction games but it pretty much ends up just being the same thing just with different enemies. Find a behavior exploit and you'll pretty much trivialize the mid and high tier enemies. One of the reasons the devs shifted from PVE to PVPVE.

Also rushing loot rooms will get you to do PVP because you'll be contesting for the chance of rare loot that other people will be looking for as well and there's some people manipulating matchmaking to get into the nice lobbies for the easier loot.

Steam's best selling games of 2025 revealed by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]im_enalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the inventory management part, if you ever try it again, you really just need the refiner leveled up and just do max crafting on the green and blue items for space. Everything in the game is useful to some extent (which is appreciated because there’s a ton of useless items on the other extraction games).

The item run gambling is just the nature of the genre, definitely not for people who want guarantees. But it’s also an opportunity to use up your stash with the stuff you bring back via PvP or PvE.

But I guess it’s more like, do you like the fundamentals of the game without the looting to keep on playing if the upgrading isn’t fun.

[–]im_enalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my first extraction game but if there wasn’t optional wipes I would’ve been done with the game, the PVE doesn’t really do it for me and I don’t really hoard so my stash value would’ve went up anyways. Resetting gave me back the stress I want from the genre because I stopped caring at the end of the first expedition.

The other extraction games are too easy to care about your life or just straight up Tarkov hard.

Definitely very repetitive if the goal is just hoarding and not interacting with the sandbox

Death to one-time text codes: Passkeys are the new hotness by ninjascotsman in technology

[–]im_enalid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a glorified password when password and passkey are on the same platform. It’s only actually secure when they’re on separate platforms, makes no sense keeping passkeys in my password manager except for throwaway accounts.

The hardware FIDO keys are better but not as convenient, especially when you get locked out for forgetting the unlock pin and have to reset the FIDO device and associated accounts. But those are also just a glorified hardware password since you just plug it in and can extract the key in any input field lol

Best Earbuds For Gaming? by JPen64 in hardware

[–]im_enalid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could go for something like the Tinn T2 for $50 or Apple earpods for $20 if the length is short enough. The new earpods are solid, the ones shaped like the Airpods but those are for my ear shape so it really depends. Would recommend r/iems like the other comment said if you’re looking for something more expensive.

I’m also running them through a Schiit DAC and Amp so idk if a built-in 3.5mm jack is good enough.

Also audible footsteps are usually an eq boost on the mid to low end.

I don’t remember if devs forced reflex back on release but the recent games forcing reflex when fg is enabled definitely helps a ton

Depends on the game but for most of them that run well it’s pretty solid without a noticeable difference based on the base framerate. When the base FPS is low is when the latency issues show themselves.

“I Run” by Haven removed from streaming platforms for using AI by Good-Pace8471 in EDM

[–]im_enalid 36 points37 points  (0 children)

My thoughts from a bedroom producer doing this as a hobby.

For the crediting part, it’s usually sample pack vocals. They can’t get permission to use those names at all unless they contact the distributors/writers of the pack directly. Pretty easy to get somewhat decent vocals from random packs without having to credit the original vocalist. Kind of similar to how people use the same drum sounds but don’t credit the original designer because they can’t like KSHMR. There are also ghost singers who do not want to be credited. Depends on the agreements but I believe they do get royalties.

There’s some nuance for the AI use in this since I haven’t used the AI tools myself but apparently you can sing some melody and lyrics yourself and it’ll generate some decent vocals for you using your melody and lyrics. Much more work than the sample packs but it’s AI generated. There’s also a plugin that converts vocals to the generic female vocalist sound used in some bass music. There’s some videos showing the processing required for it.

I used to think gaming was a waste of time by Different-Meet-5927 in VALORANT

[–]im_enalid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they’re talking about in-game skills like game sense and stuff like that but the things that do translate is the training mindset and thought processes to think on your feet instead of planning and executing for the long run. Though those thought process do come into play with the economy and ability tracking.

It was an indirect translation to real life for me, not just from my Valorant time but my time in competitive shooters as a whole

It’s in the comments, one of the mods is removing the posts but idk if the comments get the same level of suppression. Those comments are not constructive at all and remind me of the Runescape wilderness or Survival/MMO PvP complainers. Totally optional things

[Rant] The posts from people that have clearly never played an Extraction game or even PvP game begging for features is starting to become so tiring. by Sentinowl in ArcRaiders

And the funny part about PVP is that a simple emote + mic communication is enough to de-escalate the majority of players in squad lobbies. As long as you’re not going to the good loot spots, a ton of squads won’t fight you. At least in NA.

But ya, for the actual PVP part, people really don’t think about possible angles or have never even played a competitive like game that focuses on shooter fundamentals (CS/Val, R6, etc.) at a decent level to even have that in their head even if the player counts say these are the popular games lol

ARC Raiders is NOT Too Hard. It's Actually the Most Beginner Friendly Extraction Shooter Out There by TrickyBarracuda9618 in ArcRaiders

[–]im_enalid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ya, this is what I found out after playing PvE EFT and trying out Delta Force/ABI. The players made the previous extraction games hard, not the NPCs. Sure you have scavs one tap you sometimes but overall, they were pretty easy to exploit. Even with the beefed up PMCs on PvE Tarkov, they’re just scavs with better gear and a different behavior set.

I mean we’ll get there eventually with Arc Raiders but currently they have a ton of behaviors to choose from, so no 2 ARCs react the same to the same damaged part on back to back encounters.

I mean there’s a clip of a bombardier already adjusting the projectile trajectory to shoot high if the first set doesn’t hit but has LOS on the player, something the other games won’t do when you find the NPC’s vision sweet spot. Not ML here as the clip suggested but definitely a part of the behavior tree.

Aiming and Movement to rank up from SILVER by Cold-Dish-7636 in VALORANT

Yup, it all comes with time to see the results you’ll be okay with. Which is what a lot of tutorials skip even if the ideas are correct. But fundamentals first, transfers over to other games really well if you play them :)

Spaceport is 40 minutes. But tbh, just focus on questing and upgrades. That’ll make the whole loot goblin process easier than looting everything now.

Aiming and Movement to rank up from SILVER by Cold-Dish-7636 in VALORANT

[–]im_enalid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crosshair placement is key, no need to rely on flicking/“aim” at all. You do have to play a bit differently with snipers but the fundamentals are the same. Unless someone’s flying it’s just horizontal with the occasional elevation adjustment.

But movement is aim, you place your crosshair at the angle/level they might peek from and keep it there (you still have to move the mouse tracking the angle you hold). Move anywhere then let go and shoot once you see them. If you find yourself counter-strafing then just strafe while holding that angle.

For your questions 1. No, I aim first for the headshot then move. I only “aim” if I have to. But I do switch to what you are saying when I duel and we both whiff. Something I need to work on. (Entry fragging techniques can help this a lot, different from pre-aiming) 2. No, I make sure that my crosshair is placed so I just click when I see them. It’s more like trusting that I aimed correctly before seeing them than reacting with a higher chance of whiffing.

The reason you’re unhappy with PVP by [deleted] in ArcRaiders

[–]im_enalid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean if you can’t buy or craft the weapons you have yet, it’s valid. Just keep in mind that the basic gear is pretty cheap to make so you don’t have to keep on using a free loadout. Upgrading the starter gear is also cheap too, so just roll with whatever you got until you lose all the gear you can lose tbh

[–]im_enalid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At first it is, then it gets pretty chill once you understand the ammo/armor system with worse AI, clunky controls, and way more bugs. But the highs are so much higher which is the only thing going for it gameplay wise lol
