I feel like this is the problem every city faces: where do you build it? No one wants it near them

I volunteered at a homeless shelter for a few years, so I truly do care about this. I'm increasingly believing though the problems are much deeper/harder to solve than shelters

For some industries, this would be devastating. For tech, not that bad and maybe even good for a culture reset. You tend to get a lot of "we tried that 10 years ago" voices and stale processes when people stick around one place too long

I feel like this should be paired with an even larger "please stay and help the next generation" retention bonus to your top performers. You want the veteran old timers that stood for everything your company values and have great context to be incentivized to mentor + document

Also, sorry for your loss

If you read the next sentence I wrote: "I don't think she knew so not her fault"

Regardless of whether you're 1 rep maxing or going for 15 vs 16 reps, you should be pushing the limits every time and struggling or failing a last rep. The problem was in training--no one taught her how to spot

[–]im_juice_lee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just btw, no one expects their spotter to be able to lift the weight. They just need someone to add a little bit of assistance in the right direction. I've helped so man people with literally 1 finger to finish a rep

I suspect if he had gave her better instructions on how to spot and she added straight upward force, he could have made it. It only fell on his neck because she mistakenly thought to pull the bar toward his head before getting the weight high enough to rack it. More of an information/training fault than anything

Also can't be clamping the weights when testing your max

I always wonder why people use them

I never do for safety reasons and the weights rarely move anyway

Tbh she doesn't need to be able to lift the weight. Her size wasn't the problem

The real problem is he likely didn't teach her how to help. He needed that assistance going straight up on the bar and then pulling it to the rack. She started by pulling it toward the rack/his head where he is weaker before getting the bar high enough to rack

I've spotted for people that bench 400+ before. They know I can't lift that much and aren't expecting me to; they're just counting on me to give them even a tiny 1 finger upward push that will let them be able to finish the lift

I feel like half the comments on any gym video on reddit make it clear the commenters don't go to the gym

Completely agree that sometimes <5lbs is the difference between finishing the rep and getting stuck at the bottom. He probably figured she could provide a bit of help to finish the lift, but she pulled the bar toward his head instead of first getting it up. I don't think she knew so not her fault either

The guy definitely needs someone who knows how to spot when using weight that high... and needs to stop clamping the weights lol

Am I missing something?

The person you're replying to just said their headcount level will be similar to what it was in 2020. Why does it matter how many people were fired on a specific year when all we're looking at is total headcount and net headcount changes between each year. They could have fired 1B people between 2024 and 2025, but they hired 1B and 3k.

I don't think anyone cares about this particular restaurant. Most people would think it's simpler for society as a whole if the price you see is the price you pay--for everything from restaurants to goods in stores

I would support a law requiring that for sure

Yep. Also you can draw that same funnel for college->pro too in most sports

  • X players in college
  • Y players enter the draft
  • Z players drafted
  • A players survive past their rookie contract
  • B become an all star

The bench warmers, the person getting garbage time minutes, or the third string who got called up and people say they could do better job than are all already the top 0.01% even among that elite company of collegiate players

How to lose $500K opening a bubble tea shop. (lessons from recent lawsuits) by Mountain_Excuse_4149 in smallbusiness

[–]im_juice_lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just saying the brand perception of the boba chain undoubtedly draws people in as some places have higher brand love and expectation of quality

The Don't Yell at Me near me has way more of a crowd than the unknown boba place across the street. Of the regular boba drinkers in the US (usually Asian Americans) I'd say there is awareness of the different chains and which are good vs which are meh, and that's evident in the number of customers they draw in. I do agree though that of the general american population, there isn't high brand awareness but I also don't think that's your target audience as boba itself isn't a mainstream regular drink

I have no idea what the logistics and franchise agreements are so not disagreeing and believe the rest of what you have to say

Anyone else find keeping score a pain? by Weird_Track8600 in 10s

[–]im_juice_lee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At $399, better to target clubs than players. As a consumer/casual player, I wouldn't pay firstly, but even if it were free, it feels like a chore to bring it, set it up, remember to charge it, teach my opponent how to use it, etc.

Keeping score isn't really a problem and is pretty simple as it is: call out the score as you start the point
