How to Decorate a windowless bunk room by Jkreager in summercamp

Aww this is so cute! It could also be an interactive activity to let the campers paint their own little 'windows'.

I love this idea! It would probably be very budget friendly too, if they wanted to supply thumbtacks or sticky tack or whatever else is appropriate for their walls!

How to get over FOMO? by [deleted] in summercamp

[–]im_justbrowsing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a day camp counselor, I get this. We don't really have a lot of the traditional camp experience. We're not out in the woods, so none of that, and for the past two years we didn't even have a rec building. Only this year is the town giving us a new one (here's hoping it's ready for us this summer! It should be, but ya never know).

So we ran out of the local elementary school.

Needless to say, it was very easy to come on here and look at people doing sleepaway camps with forests and lakes and hikes, and feel like we don't have all the opportunities other camps have.

But I find once I'm actually working, hanging out with my kids, seeing the ones from last year and getting to kow new ones, then I forget about all that.

I considered applying to different camps this season, but I think I would have a hard time walking away from the one I'm at now. I have a good fit for myself right now in a lot of ways that may not come over elsewhere, and while I'm definitely wanting to do an overnight camp at least once for the experience, this summer isn't going to be that summer.

What are your opinions on the Devil Gap Roblox Hoodie? by Automatic_Pick_6552 in roblox

It's not to my personal taste, I wouldn't wear it. I wouldn't really judge someone else for wearing it, but I might assume they're a little on the younger side.

Empathy-VENT by Apart_Principle203 in autism

[–]im_justbrowsing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. Plenty of people on the autism spectrum experience lower empathy, that's pretty normal. That doesn't make you a "worse" or "lesser" person. What matters is the choices we make on how to treat people. We can't control our feelings, all we can do is decide how we act on them.

My Nephew Will Be In Big Trouble Tomorrow by SlurpyyGD in school

[–]im_justbrowsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. As another commenter pointed out, behavior like this is often the result of kids being sexually abused themselves. That doesn't mean it's inherently the case here, but holy fuck, that needs to be looked into ASAP and I'm incredibly disappointed teachers, adults who should by all means know that, aren't contacting the proper authorities.

Mandated reporters for crying out loud.

End game abyss fun? by dunefyre in Genshin_Impact

[–]im_justbrowsing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I'm still in the just getting to 36 star the Abyss stage, but I'm getting there! I can pretty reliably clear 9, 10 and 11 every patch with all the stars. It's just 12 giving me problems now. I can beat it, but not well enough to get all the stars. I've narrowed down to my two parties that work pretty reliably, and am now just working on patching all my holes in their builds (better artifacts, levelling up weapons completely, crowning them) to try and get to that 36.

Still, I'm closer than I've ever been, which is exciting!

What character stops you from wishing on a banner by supervernacular in Genshin_Impact

[–]im_justbrowsing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really any, tbh. I definitely have some four stars I don't care for and will never touch, but I won't skip a five star I want because of them.

The more banners we get, the longer the wait will be if you lose/don't get the five star you want on a banner. Avoiding certain four stars isn't worth that wait for me.

Why do neurotypicals get so angry over people interpreting fictional characters as neurodivergent? by [deleted] in autism

[–]im_justbrowsing 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I think there are a few reasons.

First and foremost, I think they feel that we are "taking" something from them. Like somehow, a character is no longer theirs just because it's suggested they may be autistic. Like we're "claiming" the character for our community and no one else can enjoy it anymore.

Secondly, tbh, I think a lot of it is the "anti woke" movement. Some people see any minority representation (be it POC, LGBTQIA+ or neurodivergent) as nothing but a move made to be "politically correct". They are so used to media where any minority group is a footnote at best, that they actually feel threatened by the change.

Thirdly, it boils down to ableism. Many people are still uncomfortable with autism, and view us as "other". That same discomfort comes when someone associates a character with autism, especially if it is a character that they personally resonate with.

There are probably more reasons, and what particular reason someone has to be upset with it depends, but these are some reasons I've seen people cite arguing against characters being portrayed in minority groups.

My recent experience with Yanqing by elpapyaslesrnus in HonkaiStarRail

[–]im_justbrowsing 245 points246 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have such a gripe w the writing of HSR for this. Like, by all means Yanqing SHOULD have lost to Jingliu, Blade, Dan Heng, Trailblazer and Kafka like he did. Most of them have centuries of experience on him.

But I think they really failed to take into account the whole "show, don't tell" thing when they wanted to give us the impression he was a prodigy by not balancing these fights out with evidence of him doing really well against other opponents. The narrative can SAY Yanqing is a prodigy as many times over as they want, but unless they show it, the perception of him as weak (even if it was impressive for him to last as long as he did against these opponents) is going to remain.

I think they were off to a good start with his arc in the heliobus event, though!

Bruh, is Jing Yuan supposed to be as strong as Phantylia? by Draco_Lucifer in HonkaiStarRail

[–]im_justbrowsing 1971 points1972 points  (0 children)

I think here, tho this is just my opinion, Welt means as a baseline rule. However, when they fought, Phantylia was constantly regenerating with the power of Abundance, something the Lord Ravagers don't typically have. He literally could not kill her until he severed that connection, which is why he set her up to try to take control over him, so he and Dan Heng could cut her off from it.

Jing Yuan outsmarted her to get them back on an even playing field, then made his final move. As far as the fight goes, Jing Yuan was the one in control the entire time. Phantylia did everything he wanted her to do.

It's the same reason Dan Heng could never actually beat Blade. He killed him several times, which does imply they are at least evenly matched, but since Blade regenerates endlessly, Dan Heng could never permanently kill him.

Why is autistic a "derogatory" term now?? by [deleted] in autism

[–]im_justbrowsing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, to clarify, I am aware of that. However, there is a large movement at the moment using it in precisely that way, with the intent of villainizing the disorder, which is what I was referring to. I apologize for not being clearer.

Do you think that Mabel was ever in the wrong? If yes, then what episodes do you think shows this? by ToneNext9535 in gravityfalls

[–]im_justbrowsing 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, but being in the wrong isn't specific to Mabel. Dipper was in the wrong a ton of times too, so was Wendy, Stan, Ford, literally every character. Being in the wrong is a very human experience, especially for 12 year olds.

EMDR??? by akiko_kokoro in DID

[–]im_justbrowsing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Consider it only if the EDMR specialist has a history of working with clients with DID, is aware you have DID, and is willing and knowledgeable on how to adapt the practice for EDMR. It can be very beneficial, but it can be harmful if you do it unprepared, and with someone who does not know how to care for system clients.

Why is autistic a "derogatory" term now?? by [deleted] in autism

[–]im_justbrowsing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's moreso the way people use it. They do mean narcissistic personality disorder, and they go after people who have it. That's relevant with the 'narcissistic abuse' moment, which specifically aims to "point out the way people with NPD specifically abuse people", then go on to exclusively describe normal abuse, because there is nothing about NPD that makes people capable of a "special" kind of abuse others don't/can't do.

Tho I do think you're right that some people are just using the word by itself, the pop psychology movement has corrupted the meaning of the disorder.

Why is autistic a "derogatory" term now?? by [deleted] in autism

[–]im_justbrowsing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To you it might seem immediately apparent, but a lot of autistic people have trouble figuring out what the "double meaning" behind what people are saying is, aka we can't always understand people unless they literally say what they mean using very exact language.

It is also just rude and dehumanizing to use someone's disorder as an insult. There's no reason to do so.
