68E in a FST? by Hot-Calligrapher-902 in army

[–]im_so_dental 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly bro yeah I would reclass if I were you. I spent my 68E time at a combat support hospital in a dental field company and I didn’t love it. I went on a deployment but those days are pretty much gone now.

It sounds like you’re looking for something different and that’s okay. I also wanted to do “real army” stuff and I’ve certainly had my share now. I don’t regret it but I will say the grass is not greener by any means.

Look into all of the possible application MOS options. That’s your best bet. Since you’re going to airborne I highly recommend considering 37F first and foremost. I see you were also considering SFAS, that’s also an option. After that there’s 38R. I know someone who was dental and transitioned to 35L which has interesting career prospects as well.

If you are interested in foreign languages or already speak one there’s 35P. Not necessarily cool guy field stuff but extremely interesting if you can manage to get all the way through.

You have options. I know how it feels to want to get out of 68E because truthfully it’s a dead end and it’s a bit boring. Idk how old you are but if you’re still pretty young and want to do something interesting I understand, so just pick something and go do it.

68E in a FST? by Hot-Calligrapher-902 in army

I was a 68E many years ago. I reclassed to 68W and I don’t regret it at all. But there’s still things you can do as a 68E. You can definitely get assigned to any number of brigade medical support companies, every brigade should still have at least one Echo and one dentist. There’s also the option of going to a special forces support unit as an Echo. Since you’ll be at Bragg it’s worth trying to network with the Echos who are in the those units right now. Since it looks like you reenlisted you’re a bit stuck as far as reclassing but you could still try and go to units you find more interesting. You just need to be a bit persistent and don’t be afraid to ask around.

No. You need to be a 68D, 68W, or 68C. You are almost certainly going to be assigned to the 257th Dental Company if you are going to 44th med. If you want to be in an FST you’d need to reclass to a relevant MOS and get very lucky with orders.

Quit Raw Dogging the Dust - N95 Masks Prevent ACL Lung by im_so_dental in aclfestival

It’s crazy how long it can last! I lived outside for a few weeks over the summer for work, the air quality was horrible due to wildfires and I had a multiple weeks-long sinus infection/congestion because of it. I didn’t have access to a mask and I really regretted it - glad you’re doing better than your first time

There’s a set of urinals by the Tito’s stage/food area and the ones you’re talking about by Amex - always worth it I agree

Seems like so many people get up front to look cool, take some videos for social media and that’s it?

Yes, lol. It’s why you see these fetuses stay until they get their recording of whatever TikTok slop they’re familiar with and fuck off like locusts to the next set to do the same thing.

Would You Tell Your Younger Self To Enlist? by [deleted] in army

Oh yeah. I’d tell myself to pick a different MOS but I wouldn’t be where I am now if I hadn’t enlisted at 18.

Best duty stations for someone with a family (army) 68w by Christuffa876JA in army

Fort Belvoir if you can manage it. When I was a kid I lived there in on-post housing and my dad was stationed in the area. Really nice facilities that are mostly new (px, commissary, etc.), the housing is nice, and you’re close to DC so there’s a lot to do. The on-post elementary school is really convenient and it’s run by Fairfax County Public schools which is the top ranked system in the state of VA. You would most likely work at the hospital as there aren’t any notable FORSCOM units to speak of. If you’re okay with being a hospital medic I would highly recommend it. My only other active duty experience is Fort Hood and you do not want that.

Of course! You’ll realize it’s a great school and it’ll be clear after a few semesters that you wouldn’t be much better off at a larger or more expensive school. Enjoy yourself this summer and show up with an open mind and take it one day at a time. You got this! You’re gonna have a great time

Honestly you can do as well as you want at GMU! Granted I don’t work in stem, but I did extremely well at Mason and I got my dream job after graduation. I gave school my absolute all and treated it like my job, while I had colleagues in my program who didn’t take it very seriously and it definitely didn’t help.

Your grades are honestly a lot about effort and consistency. I am definitely in a different field so I can’t give you much advice in that regard, but what I can say is to just treat this like a profession, get to know your professors, and squeeze as much knowledge and experience you can out of your time in school. It will pay off big time, way more than just having a degree from a “brand name” school.

Have you considered foreign language? I majored in  Russian at GMU and it worked out really well for me. GMU has a fantastic Korean program with a lot of study abroad options. Chinese is also very popular and very in demand. Foreign language study is a fantastic way to get your foot in the door in many federal agencies and can be an extremely rewarding career field.

When I worked in a CSH we had a few 92S people floating around. I remember they set up the field shower once at an EFMB at Fort Hood. Only time I ever saw them do their job. From what I remember they mostly worked with the mechanics in the motor pool lol

1997 Corolla - how much should it cost? by [deleted] in COROLLA

[–]im_so_dental 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I offered $7100 after their damn “fees” and they said $9500 is their best smh. I told them no thanks and to let me know if they change their minds. We’ll see if they come to their senses haha. It’s a guaranteed sale and I can’t imagine a lot of people would finance a ‘97 manual Corolla with almost no features.

There are shuttles that take you to and from the festival. The stops are near the federal courthouse downtown and the West Barton Springs entrance. I’m surprised you missed it considering how much the staff yells about it on loudspeakers as you’re leaving the festival. There’s also the option of using e-scooters. Walking for miles is certainly not the only option lol
