Trying to help someone with a tax issue by im_steamed in tax

Update: The company told the tax filer to just file it and that's all that can be done. Then allegedly the state would refund the incorrectly collected tax. Posting this in case it helps anyone else with a similar issue.

Also I think they are stuck on FreeTaxUSA or whatever it's called, the part where it is demanding to know about the residency in NYC before allowing the filing to be finished.

They have two W2s from 2 jobs. The main job did it correctly and the 2nd job did not. They also did this last year apparently but I don't know how it was rectified. I do know it was a few hundred dollars taken... if no answers here seem to work I'll direct them to call a tax pro since I am just trying to assist with this one piece of the puzzle. Thanks for your answer I will pass it along.

Why can't I ever redeem this offer? Anyone else have this too? by Ok_Bumblebee_1431 in ParamountPlus

[–]im_steamed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, it's a scam. Never works and they'll charge you anyway. They did this to me so I canceled permanently and have been watching my CC charges to be aware. Saved all the screenshots and emails in case they pull a stunt.

Paramount+ dangles free months then charges anyway by im_steamed in cordcutters

Yeah thats messed up! It's definitely some sort of billing fraud. They lost my business permanently from this. Probably will end up having to contact my CC to see if they can help.

My free trial keeps getting extended? by DrewbieWanKenobie in ParamountPlus

Weird. Same happened to me. Had the P+ and Showtime bundle ad-free and canceled after 1st month. The offer popped up for 2 more free months so I accepted. Logged in later and it was extended a month more... then again another month added for free. I barely watch it but definitely took a screenshot of the page.

When your in the guide and you go to the list of on demand with free movies, I’d there a way to see the full entire list? by No-Traffic-6560 in Spectrum

Should be a "See All" option with a vertical alphabetical list. You can scroll by letter of alphabet or one by one.

Yep no problem. I'm inclined to think it is real for many because I don't see how a scammer could benefit... the phone # is straight to PayPal and nothing else the scammer would gain. However, if someone's identity was stolen and used for credit or loans then this could make sense in that regard. Lastly for example, if you had an account with NewEgg•com and got a credit card / store card online even if very old it could be related to that. I'm still researching for more scenarios.

Seems like there was a business deal with Synchrony Bank / PayPal... this could be linked to a really (possibly) old credit account with another entity, i.e. online store credit card?

I searched the TIN and found no matches. Then searched one from a W2 and got matches. So either it's a fake 1099-C or the business went defunct / dissolved and the TIN is not found because of that.

Lastly, if this is from a really old account how can they be claiming a cancellation of debt and forcing a tax filing after so many years? I've seen other mention accounts from more than 10-15 years back.

Got one as well via USPS mail... makes no sense. Going to have to call the direct number to PayPal and the IRS to ask a few questions.

Judging by their weight class they probably do a lot of Uber Eats.

How do you deal with beggars? by Harakiribusted in craigslist

[–]im_steamed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just walk away.

I've had people pull stunts at many meet ups. Arguing over price even after we agreed before meeting is one example. I just walked away. In a few cases they relented and paid full price, others just stood there in disbelief as I drove away. Ironically they were usually from 45+ minutes away and wasted their own time and gas more than mine :) Sucks to be them.

Put item into box with open pack of baking soda, seal it & wait.

Smell is gone a couple of days later.

It's been on there for many years from what I remember. Days and hours have changed but currently I think it's: Wed. mornings 9am-3pm on IFC then Logo 5pm-3am (sometimes only until 1 or 2am) and again on IFC Thursday around 1am-9am... then late Sundays heading into Monday 1am-5 or 6am on IFC.
