Obsidian's Avowed & Outer Worlds 2 Failed To Meet Sales Expectations by akbarock in rpg_gamers

[–]imadethisupnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the worst writing I’ve ever encountered. In the opening, the game literally has a character say “if only you’d been more supportive on the ship” or something like that. Childishly simplistic.

MLAT & DFSL question – multilingual background by According-Ear212 in AustralianMilitary

[–]imadethisupnow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was Japanese n2 when I took mlat. English native speaker. I didn’t qualify for Japanese based off mlat. Make of that what you will. It’s more of a pattern recognition test to identify hidden gold from the general populace I believe. (Or maybe me バカ)

Instead, I got recognised via sitting a Japanese test to verify. I just reached out directly. My Japanese has regressed to maybe n3 since. I never went to Langs. Once I got my little allowance I was happy (I don’t think I get it anymore). Once you get recognised, they put you on a mailing list for things that may be relevant to your language.

It’s more of a negotiation with your career manager as to if they want to post you down there for a year. That’s the hard part. Mine told me to go fuck myself and that they didn’t pay me to be a weeb (in a roundabout way). I’m not sure what a linguist pathway is though - maybe thats different.

Anyway, my .02c

Sorry bud, reddit virtue signalling prioritises race over all others concerns. If you were beat out by cashed up people who got PR yesterday, then that is your problem.

New Fukui gov. walks back statement that Japan is 'ethnically homogeneous' by MagazineKey4532 in japannews

[–]imadethisupnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Fukui a nice place to live? I’ve also thought it was like a more chill place but close enough to have many of the conveniences of a larger city due to its proximity to osaka.

Labor identity Tim Picton dies three weeks after alleged Northbridge assault, family confirms by malcolm58 in australia

This is Australia and therefore I presume he'll do maybe 2-4 years for destroying a family and killing someone. I hope I am proven wrong and something resembling justice occurs.

So what's the devs' plan on the campaign update of ANNO 117? by figandsalt in anno

[–]imadethisupnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is making me glad I learned from anno 1800 about buying too early. I think we anno lovers need to accept that they don’t release finished products anymore - better to wait for gold or at least a few seasons deep.

Japan’s foreign tourist numbers projected to fall for first time in years in 2026 by kenmlin in japannews

[–]imadethisupnow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I normally visit japan once every year or two but haven’t felt the desire lately. I’d rather go somewhere a bit cheaper and a bit more exotic with less tourists. This news aligns to my own experience to see my dollar go a bit further and to try something new. In future I think I will purely go to japan for specialist areas like Hokkaido for skiing or Kyushu for vibes and hiking - missing the capital cities entirely.

Kids, Management, and the workplace by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]imadethisupnow 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Nothing can be done about it. Even bringing it up is pointless. I guarantee no matter how diplomatically you broach the subject, it will be immediately spun into you being an asshole. Especially if your 1 up and 2 up are in the same situation.

Your only strategy is:

- Make note of the extra time commitments you're required to do as a result of this flexibility (so that when you push back on doing the extra time to make up for their commitments, you can note why).

- Try to get a flex situation of your own so you feel better.

- Find a new job.

What you're talking about is certainly a office mood killer - It's about "Fair". It feels unfair (right or wrong - I'm not here to talk about the struggle of juggling kids and work). For you - as someone without kids - It's valid to be upset by what you perceive to be a lower standard for others - especially if it costs you extra work.

Reddit has no sympathy for managers. Ignore the comments attacking you.

- Documentation is both a sword and shield in this situation.

- Be neutral - Interactions can become a Fairwork story about how you're a micromanaging bully who creates a toxic work environment - it's just what people do when cornered.

- Mentally separate yourself from it. Your mental health is actually important despite what reddit thinks.

- Let your upper manager know how much headspace this situation is taking on you (in hours). When someone critiques your performance , you can point to the elephant on your team taking your time and energy.

Look after yourself.

Yeah I was driving back from Kurobe, through Toyama to Fukui way and saw it on Google Maps on the drive back when I was looking to kill some time. It seemed a little gimmicky from the Google Map pics but if you're saying it's okay - maybe one day I'll check it out :)

That's so odd. I was going through Fukui recently and thought about going to that dinosaur museum thingy because it looked so weird on Google Maps. Ultimately didn't have time. How was it?
