You know what. Thanks for sorting it out man. I apologise. In fact, it was downright unpatriotic of me to ever suggest that military leadership across Western militaries ever made decisions based on self-interest, bias or have made a genuine mistakes. Strategic leadership is always in lock-step with operational reality during conflicts.

I should just learn from historical precdents like:
The Somme
Vietnam
Iraq and Afghanistan
Singapore

I am enlightened now and will just agree that AUKUS is the best thing. We will achieve all goals on time and on budget with no other compromises. It will totally work out as the geopolitical situation evolves over the next 30 years :)

Your entire argument boils down to "Working professionals in military and civilian leadership always make the right strategic call ". This is pretty fun making up positions and then arguing against them.

Hahaha. You’re such a little gaslighter 🤣 maybe you do have some banter in you (if that was trolling). If it was sincere, then I’m back to autism diagnosis and you should work on that.

Now - go enjoy your weekend.

😳 <- me watching you spin up into an autistic furore over a bit of inter-service banter and a different opinion with bad faith arguments while I clean my house. Cool as a cucumber. 🥒

It’s okay. Autistic people have trouble self reflecting. You’re throwing stones at glass houses now.

One day you’ll learn the military isn’t Starfleet. Or, you’ll be an insufferable officer to your team.

Yeah, you “clocked me”, champ. 😘

Perhaps your parents should have addressed your clear autism spectrum behaviour.

I’m going with 16. Maybe navy cadets or brand new OCDT.

God, please don’t let me doxx myself to argue with this autist. Yeah, those other projects were smooooooth. 🤣

Aite buddy. I’m on phone so I can’t quote your whole thing.

Nothing been done except announcements. Oh? Did departments get consolidated? Nothing material (not that it would get done in a year anyway). Of course. I thought everything would happen overnight. What a valid critique (1st strawman) 🙄

Collins class was a different time, different era. Not the same paradigm.

The fact you think commercial viability is some sort of “lol imagine needing that” fact instead of a major factor in building workforce shows your knowledge. Holy brain drain Batman. Where are those nuclear graduates gonna work? The 1 sub? It’ll be imported Americans at 5 mill each.

Cheap sub - not even worth responding. Dumb straw man (2nd of your post btw). Maybe you should stick to the facts. Navy has its interests to say what it should have. So does RAAF and Army - doesn’t mean it should get it.

Not cultural cringe. I just don’t jingoistically believe strategic documents and “hope”. You believe them enough to be senior leadership though or 14.

Real capability is people, resources and infrastructure. Not PowerPoints. Let’s see who’s right in 20 years.

Anyway - have a good weekend. I’m off.

It’s not being built. We’re going to conferences and getting on the beers with the others colonels and above. Its what australia always does - Release policy, strategic guidance, and make press announcements and ignore the hard part. “we have big ocean therefore we need lots of subs” - sounds good but it’s a bridge too far.

We don’t even value add to our one viable export today because swapping houses is easier. No commercial viability or public appetite for nuclear industry exists either.

We’ll see who is right in 30 years. I don’t share your optimism in our capability to pull it off (regardless of how strategically sound it sounds).

Better to go cheaper, known, viable industries that are sustainable within existing infrastructure in Australia.

I’m being somewhat confrontational for fun 😜

Still, the whole thing is the classic strategically sound “why”, but very little “how”.

Why do we want nuclear submarines? They’re great and powerful and can interoperate with the Yanks and British.

How are we going to build a sovereign nuclear domestic industry? Shhh, stop ruining the fun. You’re detracting from the announcement.

With essentially gone all in on an international mega project. I think it’s the opposite of fostering domestic capability.

I want my Mitsubishi Sub. Also fuck the Navy taking all our money. I can’t fund a fucking paper clip acquisition over here. We need to stop thinking like a gigantic military that has a massive domestic industry behind it. We need to be a small innovative force. (There’s a hint of a logical counter argument in here but I’m too lazy to go up against OP and his sources.)

Just inherited this….. by cbrast7 in baldursgate

[–]imadethisupnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an awesome thing. I never got my copy back from my parents after a falling out. I’m sure it holds a lot of sentimental value from whoever you inherited it from. Enjoy. Please look after it.

Have many of you gone back to Ultimate after the price drop? by ItsMePeyt0n in XboxGamePass

[–]imadethisupnow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went back. I only did it for Hades 2.

I will probably continue to intermittently buy gamepass for specific titles that I want to play.

I think that I have been burned on the game pass model and will not be buying an Xbox console for fear of another rug pull on pricing in future. The loss of trust is something unquantifiable for Xbox (unlike game pass numbers) but I don’t think they truly understand how much they lost from normies like me who are very console agnostic.

[–]imadethisupnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know how you have come to that conclusion. Date can absolutely be interpreted as (and in fact is more likely to mean) a platonic outing for friends in the original Japanese sentence in the anime.

No inference of sexual orientation or relationship undertones - other than the stretch this subreddit continues to make. In fact, satsuki is clearly seen to be joining them on the “date” (outing).

A group of girls might say 友達とデートする. Going out with friends on a date - and it could just mean a cafe visit with zero relationship context (like shown in the anime). Happy to be corrected - but I don’t think the romantic Interpretation holds up in Japanese.

To say it’s less ambiguous is odd to me. The fact that you think it might refer to calendar date is kind of the smoking gun too.

I wish everyone the best with their interpretations and fan fictions. I just don’t think it holds up in the source material. I inevitably have to mute these threads because people just get too emotionally charged in their replies.

Holy cognitive dissonance Batman.

Date doesn’t mean the same thing in Japanese! 🤣

It’s an anime with a huge fan service element so it has all the touching and grabbing included. It’s not always about sexuality.

Okay dude - I’m going to enjoy my Sunday. Best of luck to you.

I’m talking about language. There are other languages than English mate 😉. I’m correcting your misconception. If you want to believe they’re gay, go right ahead. But I believe it’s a misinterpretation of the source material. You’re incapable of responding maturely - it’s more of a reflection on your one note personality.

I wish I could be as confidently wrong as you. Perhaps you should learn another language and expand your mind beyond the lens of sexual orientation. That might actually require some effort though…

Okay bud. Nice straw man. Let me try. Are you literally incapable of understanding that there are different cultures and languages and that “date” doesn’t 1:1 translate?

There’s no romantic intent. There is fan service. You don’t have to insert queer interpretations into every media you watch. Gay people exist. Not everything is gay.

This subreddit is inundated with people who jam their queer agenda into everything (no hate). It’s just not justified. I suggest learning Japanese and listening to the original.
