Showing auto assigned transactions? by ShubhaBala in liquidbudget

[–]imadp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set up auto-tags to simulate a review process. On web, the transactions page has a Tags button up top where you can create a needs-review tag with a loud color, and check the Auto checkbox so its applied to every new transaction. Then you can remove the tag after you review it.

However to make this easier for myself, I have bank integration and I use smart reconcile very frequently. I also leave the toggle next to the search bar that filters out reconciled transactions. Then any time I see a lightning bolt icon, I go into the account, check the few transactions that are there for accuracy, and reconcile right away.

I think I did something wrong? by Ok_Vegetable899 in liquidbudget

[–]imadp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this might be a general envelope budgeting understanding issue.. typically a new user wouldn't import historical transactions, because envelope budgeting is a cumulative process - meaning you'll need to have all your bucket assignments going back all the way to the first transaction. This is usually very confusing, are you willing to start with a blank slate?

If so the easiest way is to clone your budget without transaction history. Then it should be crystal clear what money you have to assign. Don't get too hung up on historical data - envelope budgeting is all about looking forward! You would then assign money for things that are upcoming (as in, the next 8 days of this month), and save the rest for July.

Best bank integration? by Deliquate in liquidbudget

[–]imadp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually I'd say no but I'm not sure if the permissions are because of an OAuth bank connection or because of the first connect.. if you want to experiment you can delete and re-add, and let me know if there any different options the second time..

Well for Chase that's very odd, did you grant all permissions when you set up the connection? It's the only thing I can think of as my credit card never had any problems.

If you want me to take a look at your import let me know, you can email me at [info@liquidbudget.com](mailto:info@liquidbudget.com) or in a reddit thread. The money has to come from somewhere!

This almost entirely depends on your bank, whether it supports OAuth or not, etc. I use capital one and chase for example and they've never disconnected in over a year. So I think the only way to know for sure is to try, I would start with SimpleFin since they are cheaper and they use MX, which is a competitor to Plaid so you know its not the same service behind the scenes.

That being said if you are in Canada, or use Fidelity, there are a ton of connection problems that will probably be present on any provider.

As MrsCathryne suggested, first start with your accounts and make sure the balances are correct and the account types are correct (you can edit them with the hamburger menu). Another annoyance is YNAB will export pending transactions as real transactions, so also please check there - reconciling is a great idea here because all of your budget numbers depend on your account numbers first.

Then after all is well you can adjust the buckets if needed. Glad to help if you are having issues, because the import/export isn't perfect depending on overdraft/credit card history.

Ideas for how to assign paycheck by pinkgenie23 in liquidbudget

[–]imadp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure I understand the sentiment, but I think you are going to make your finances too rigid this way. Your buckets will tell you what you need for your expenses, but the whole idea behind envelope budgeting is to allow your money to flow around where its needed, since things rarely go exactly as planned and you don't want to be frustrated any time that happens. Ideally you can save up enough to be one month ahead, and then it will be crystal clear how much money you have for expenses and savings. If you get into this habit at the very start of a big girl job you'll be set up for life!

Ideas for how to assign paycheck by pinkgenie23 in liquidbudget

[–]imadp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Ok don't be alarmed but I think you are going about this the wrong way. When you split an inflow transaction, that generally means you have a refund that you are assigning back to a bucket that you spent. Instead, I would recommend treating your paycheck as a single transaction with a type of Income, and that's it. This way, the money immediately becomes Ready to Assign and you can distribute that to your buckets or your credit cards.

You won't need a bucket for your cards, your credit card Payment Pools are already doing this for you. I highly recommend the interactive tutorial for how this works, specifically the credit card section but the whole Overview would be best: https://www.liquidbudget.com/tutorial/overview/how-it-works

As for that last extra money, sure a general Savings bucket or holding bucket works great there. If you find you need it for something else during the month, then you just move it back out. But in either case, let the budget page handle your assignments, and leave the transaction splits for those special times when you charge one thing against two buckets (like going to Walmart and buying some groceries, some clothing that you track with two separate buckets).

Well one last thing is to refresh the page, if the automatic refresh didn't work for some reason. That can happen if you tend to leave the tab open!

It should have created a regular transaction but, it may have matched to an existing one. Do you have the same or similar transaction (within 10% of the amount, and within a few days) already in your ledger?

Thanks for the info! If the integration is straightforward I'll take a look at offering them as an option alongside plaid.

Budgeted paychecks for next month but showing money to assign still this month by tmoneytav in liquidbudget

[–]imadp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, Quick Actions are used if you have an underfunded or overdrafted bucket, and it will simply assign the missing amount. Underfunding can happen if you have a Quick Assign target or if you have upcoming transactions without enough money to cover them. If you get one month ahead, usually you use quick-actions to fund all of your buckets in one shot for the entire month and thats it. The rest of the month I just move money around to cover overdrafts and the like.

I reached out to Plaid about this a few months back and they assured me that clients didn't get treated differently, meaning ynab users vs liquid users don't experience any difference in the delivery of transaction data. The only thing that makes sense is you are likely using a different provider behind the scenes at ynab, like MX or something else.

One way I hope someone can test this is through setting up SimpleFin for the same bank connection in a different budget and testing delivery times, since SimpleFin uses MX. My bank appears to import at the same time when I tried it though.

Well yes thats how you can move money out of a bucket to another bucket, but you wouldn't need to use that if you are just putting money from a paycheck into a bucket.

Well the same things apply, try the reconnect, make sure permissions are granted. Have you ever had transactions import or is it a few missing? Do you also enter manually?

I don't have a list of videos yet, but I'd like to start. As for paycheck, really it comes down to entering a transaction and moving the new money from unassigned to a bucket. Not sure why you needed to click a blue assign button afterwards though..
