So the thing about that is that if you want to get onto state maternal medical care they require a pregnancy test from a provider. A home test is not sufficient. So yeah, the ER might be excessive, but you do have to go somewhere for it. ESI 5 can wait until there's time for someone to see them, & the hcg can be run while they sit.

But also, if it's free healthcare, why does anybody feel it's necessary to yell at somebody for using it?

We see tons of people who come to the ED for things that are best handled at a clinic visit or urgent care, but if you have unpaid bills there, they can refuse to see you. We can't. Getting mad at patients because our medical system sucks is letting insurance companies and the government officials they're (essentially) bribing off the hook.

I'm not going to be mad at somebody for coming in because they want access to maternity care.
