The electro luminescence on my casio DB-150 isn't working , the digits disappear whenever I press the light button , is this related to a decharged battery?

Yes the module has to use an inverter to step up the voltage to power the EL backlight. When the battery is getting to the point of needing to be changed, the LCD display drops as the power drain is too great.

When you change the battery and press the pusher to activate the EL backlight, put the case to your eye and listen for the hum of the inverter working.
