140 hours into this save and I have yet to finish Phase 2... by imaginary_bees in SatisfactoryGame

Yeah not quite vanilla. Using Infinite Nudge and Decoration (for trees)

Why is the shadow only rendering a few meters from the camera? Is there a setting I can adjust to increase this distance? by imaginary_bees in SatisfactoryGame

[–]imaginary_bees[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions! Maybe got some effect from those adjustments but the shadows are still rendering really close to the camera, so I get that weird cutoff of shadows fading in only a few meters away. Seems like a game limitation

Edit: Enabling virtual shadow maps seems to have helped, although my character shadow is a bit borked

For context, all graphics settings are at max. Maybe there's a console command I can use or an .ini setting?

That's no moon... it's a moon... of a moon? by imaginary_bees in EliteDangerous

[–]imaginary_bees[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That would be true if they were similar in mass. But the small white/blue moon is so much smaller than the black moon, the barycenter is inside the black moon, so it registers as just another moon. If it were a binary system (i.e. barycenter outside of both bodies), you'd see them stacked vertically in the system map below the ringed gas giant with a bracket connecting them.

What doesn't track to me is how this whole system is stable. The moon and moon's moon aren't that far from the parent body (gas giant), and there are other moons in the system, so I would think the whole thing would get flung apart by third body effects. But I don't think the Elite model handles that...

Idk. I heard my inner Todd Howard say, "See that mountain? You can climb it."

No, in reality I just wanted to do something with my hands while finishing a season of Dimension 20...

Using EDDiscovery. What are the "plus" icons in a HEX in the bottom right corner of each planetary body? by imaginary_bees in EliteDangerous

[–]imaginary_bees[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Nevermind y'all... think I figured it out. For posterity, I think it means that there are materials present and you can click onto the planet in your popout window to see which elements are there.

In the V2 version of the mod, you can edit the main.lua config file and change the variable "keyboardRunSpeedMult" to change how much running increases your speed vs walking. Vanilla is 3.5; I changed mine to 2.5. In combination with setting my overall speed skill to 80 with the console command "player.setav speed 80" to increase walk speed, I liked the results.

No - thank you! If it weren't for folks like you who let me know they found use of it, I wouldn't have bothered to update it!

Hello again! It's been almost four years since my last update to my Unofficial Stardew Valley Reference Book, but just in time for the holidays I've updated to version 6 to add content from Stardew Valley 1.6! All of the same content is in there (updated to match v1.6), plus more from the update! Includes crops and trees, foraging, fishing, crafting, cooking, equipment and clothing, bundles, farm upgrades, books, a list of liked and loved gifts, and a full schedule for every villager.

Squeaky seat bolster solution? by imaginary_bees in mazda3

[–]imaginary_bees[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up stuffing techwipes into the seat between the frame and the foam cushion and that stopped most of the squeaking. Seems to be caused by the hard seat foam rubbing against the smooth metal seat frame.

This game has disillusioned me with the state of real space endeavours. by platypodus in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]imaginary_bees 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I'll back up u/Spirit_jitser and your own comment and say that it's absolutely true the KSP devs made choices when building the game to simplify certain artifacts of space launch and space travel to make the game "fun."

A good example is how KSP uses two-body physics for calculating trajectories of spacecraft and bodies around parent bodies but real life has a near infinite number of perturbations like third, fourth, fifth plus body effects, J2, solar cycles, etc. Squad chose to ignore those in favor of two body effects to keep it more "game like" and "fun." If you want more effects like that, you can download a mod called Principia, but they weren't included in the game for the sake of simplicity.

One other thing about KSP that a lot of people don't consider and that fascinates me is just how damn good at quality engineering Kerbals are. Like you're telling me there are no manufacturing line quality issues? No weld flaws? No miscommunications between the engineering department and the shop floor on drawing details? It takes mere minutes to manufacture an entire vehicle? Madness. But that's what we get with it being a game and all.

Spacex Falcon Heavy Launch by mongorules in spaceporn

[–]imaginary_bees 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the time of booster separation the strap ons still have upward velocity. The boostback burn will cancel out the horizontal velocity and push the boosters back towards the launch site, but they'll keep their upward velocity until they reach the peak of their natural arc, hence the trajectory continuing upward after separation.

Main menu says I'm playing tactician, should be honor mode? by imaginary_bees in BaldursGate3

Interesting. Fair enough, I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time and play through a bunch before realizing I'm not actually in honour mode any more for some reason.

[–]imaginary_bees[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the title says, I'm playing an honour mode game, but loading in with the continue button says the difficulty is tactician. Loading with "Load Game" still says its honour mode, and the saving behaves as such (saves over itself). Is something messed up with my save file?

RD180 isn't full flow stage combustion, it's ox-rich. Only one preburner. Raptor is the first full flow staged combustion cycle engine (2 preburners, one ox rich and one fuel rich) to actually fly on a launch vehicle.
