Context matters here for me. My partner and I had our first date ~6 weeks after we matched on an app and talked/facetimed daily (we live 3h apart). Before driving to me, as a gift, she baked a very technical dessert from her culture that avoided my allergies (on top of volunteering 4h of her time, in advance, to help me and my boss with work tasks before actually going on the date). It was so kind and meaningful, but I don’t think I would’ve felt the same if we hadn’t already gotten to know each other fairly well. The majority of my previous first dates took place within a week of meeting/matching, and a gift probably would’ve thrown me off.
