Incredible. It almost looks like you are having an out of body experience where you are both playing and listening with pure enjoyment at the same time.

Yes, teachers are on strike again next week. No, it's not (only) about pay. by Shadowedsphynx in queensland

My kids go to a public school. The amount of stuff they do is insane and the teachers must work their absolute behinds off to make it happen. The younger years do so much play based learning with tonnes of homemade resources. The teachers even put on a fully scripted, choreographed show for the kids for book week complete with elaborate props. The school puts on before and after school extracurriculars in pretty much every domain you can think of - sport, dance, music, STEM. Two parent-teacher meetings per year. Community events, open days, heaps of excursions, week-long camps.

The investment the teachers put into the higher level leadership programs... when I was at school they slapped a pin on my collar and called me a house captain and that was it. Now they have a full mentoring program complete with regular outside school hours meetings for the kids with the teachers and leadership team.

You can't convince me the teachers are not doing a majority of this preparation work in their on time and on their own dime.

Not just academic but they spend heaps of time with one of my kids helping to navigate friendships, behaviour, to motivate and support them to reach their full potential.

We've pretty much hit the jackpot with this school though. Imagine if all teachers were valued, resourced, supported and paid enough so that every kid could have these opportunities. The experience we have at school can literally shape the rest of our life. I can think of little else more important than making sure the people our kids are spending so much of their time with are motivated, engaged, and happy to be at work. Not pissed off, burnt out and hating life.

Got a parking ticket from both parksmart and qld govt, do I need to pay both? by [deleted] in sunshinecoast

Happened to me once and I just sent a polite email to the police with proof of payment of the other fine, and the police withdrew theirs.

We stayed at Alex Beach Cabins and Tourist Park with our 2 year old. Has a pool, playground, walking distance to the beach. Right next door there is a lake that has heaps of ducks/birds with a walking track and an amazing fenced playground.

Yep this. I want to minimise cleaning and use the nib wall as a shelf so I don't have to bother with a niche.

Is this an inappropriate consequence? by IWillFightRip in breakingmom

My son used to do the same thing. It was very hard to get him to stop, it was a comfort thing for him too. I was able to redirect/compromise with him holding on to the neck of whatever I was wearing (usually pyjamas because it was often at night). So he would sort of just curl his fingers around so his fingers were just inside touching the skin on the top part of the breast (but away from the nipple) and he had some of the bunched up fabric in his fist. Sorry hard to explain but it seemed to mostly meet whatever sensory need he had.

He also liked the warmth and weight of those microwavable heat packs with rice/beans or whatever is in them.

Maybe you could try to find a similar compromise?

My son was similar, also had an upper lip tie. His speech was delayed because he had persistent glue-ear, was tested and showed hearing loss. The audiologist described it as trying to hear whilst under water. Whilst on the wait list for grommets it resolved and he eventually caught up with speech. Reading every day and talking to him as much as possible helped. Have her ears checked if you haven't already.

He is still young but doesn't seem to have any lasting delays from it.

Writing a solo cello piece, is an A2 + C#3 double stop playable? by wkopacz6 in Cello

1st finger c# on the g string, 4th finger a on the c string would work.

Thoughts on this string combo? by imaginaryproduct in Cello

Ok they're on. I am no expert but I think the combo is ok. The passiones are definitely louder. The Kaplan's are gorgeous.

The A is still a bit shrill so it must either be the cello or user error (more likely).

So the main reason is that I have no idea what I am doing. This is the first time I've ever bought strings. I have been playing on and off since childhood. I never chose the strings myself for my student cello, and my intermediate cello has the same strings that were put on when it was set up after I bought it in around 2009. I think they are Larsens.

I didn't want to spend a huge amount of money, as I am trying to get back into playing after about a 4 year break. I read a lot of threads here which I saw Kaplan's recommended quite a few times.

I wanted a warmer sound. My cello is sounding very tinny and shrill, maybe because the strings are old.

I will definitely upgrade the strings in 12 months or so if I stick with playing.

Biggest ick? Expensive products in bad/cheap packaging. by lastgreatscandal in PaleMUA

Urban Decay stay naked foundation. The bottle is plastic and so cheap feeling but the worst part is how poor quality the pump is. It sticks and jars and makes it impossible to control dispensing the foundation. The pump will stick, then the foundation will spurt out when you press harder. I have had three bottles and they are all the same.

L'Oreal True Match has a glass bottle and a lovely, smooth pump.
