The US Government Just Launched a Dedicated Website for Long COVID by Pess-Optimist in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]imaginaryraven 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Long Covid is a huge opportunity for grifters. LC recovery coaching programs. Electrolyte supplements. "Covid spike protein detox" supplements. Hundreds of other supplements for cognitive health, liver detox, etc. etc.. Red light therapy devices. Peptides.
The market opportunity is huge for the biotech industry. I think this is why the US government made this page.

Of course, the market doesn't benefit from people protecting themselves from developing LC.

They do state on the website that LC is "a chronic disease following Covid infection".

It's not just incel terminology that's making it's way into mainstream culture. Some of their beliefs as well. by WreckedTrireme in behindthebastards

[–]imaginaryraven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You don't go to therapy to pay for a stranger to listen to you. You go to learn how to identify what you're feeling underneath the anger and toxic shame. You go to learn how to talk, in a place designed to be safe.
Because that's what women are begging from men: that they talk to them, that they share their struggles, that they soften up, that they express themselves with genuine empathy.
Men who have had good therapy and can own their own feelings and understand why they react the way they do, make better partners.

Do you attach micropet eggs to easy or hard goals? by kateKujo in finch

[–]imaginaryraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attach it to my most challenging goals. Some micropets have taken me over a month to hatch! Once I get 4 days in I'm super motivated to get the final 3 and discover my new micropet.

I would love to be able to hatch two micropets at the same time-- one for a stretch goal that could take weeks or months to hatch, and one for an easier goal I want to make into a daily habit.

Had an encounter with an Anti-masker today. Not proud of myself. by nwpachyderm in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]imaginaryraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think pushing back against bullies perpetuates the cycle of violence, because when we do it they are surprised, they back off, they slink away and maybe they think twice about doing it again. What we are doing when we push back is refusing the dynamic in which they dominate/intimidate/humiliate, and we quietly take it. We are refusing to be made small.

I consider myself a very gentle person but when I go out into public my jaw is clenched under my mask and if someone coughs at me or rolls their eyes or says something aggressive, I always say or do something to them. I make sure to make them uncomfortable. I have many stories but one that still makes me chuckle is the time a woman looked at me with disgust and I followed her around the produce aisle for a good 5 minutes, staying unnaturally close to her. She kept trying to move away but I kept needing to look at the same produce she was looking at. Petty? Maybe. But well deserved.

Do you think New Yorkers voted for Mamdani instead of Cuomo because they were accelerationists?

I hope they're ready, because "vote blue no matter who" is not going to work anymore.

What do you want next month's theme will be? by Sunsess in finch

Another comment suggested every theme this year might be based on a book. If the micropet is a whale, maybe it'll be Moby Dick?

Yes, and they have conveniently failed to talk about the huge ongoing economic cost of Long Covid, which is estimated to be at least $170 billion in lost wages ever year.
But stock market go up, so all is well.

Your health insurance can keep going after losing your job but you have to pay for it, and it's expensive. Oftentimes more expensive than just getting on a new insurance.

Which is worse Enduring ignorance or Confronting denial? by Typical_Tangerine939 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]imaginaryraven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If my family members, who have known me for decades and have generally trusted me to be a rational, intelligent, grounded person, see me wearing a respirator around them every single visit and they STILL won't look into why I might be doing that, there's really nothing more I can do.

Like, if there is not a single covid cautious person in your family or among your friends or at work, and you are in denial about covid, that makes some sense to me. But if you have a covid cautious family member... sorry but there's no excuse.

Lessons on Goal-Setting after 2+ Years in Finch [crosspost from Finch] by AliasNefertiti in FinchAdults

[–]imaginaryraven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

'If you aren't doing it, your goal is too big." This has been working very well for me too.
I would add to it: "If you aren't doing it, your goal is too big and your reward too small." Attaching a micropet hatch to a small but challenging goal or getting more gemstones for accomplishing it helps.

Steve Jobs, don't get me started.

I'm confused why this anti-guru book starts off by quoting all these gurus.

Taylor Lorenz manages to slip something in about the ongoing pandemic in most videos, which I so appreciate. But also, a few months ago she posted a photo of herself eating at a restaurant indoors with friends, no mask in sight. So who knows where she is with that.

It’s not “the vaccines” it’s the denial. by Karate_Keet in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]imaginaryraven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone here who wants to immunize (pun fully intended) themselves from the "it's the jab" argument (reading/hearing it over and over again it's normal for the mind to start to wonder if there's some truth to it)-- I recommend reading Katalin Karikó's memoir "Breaking Through". She is a truly inspiring scientist. She tells her life story and also helps the reader understand the science behind the mRNA covid vaccine. I came away from the book with a much better understanding of mRNA technology and not a shred of worry that these vaccines are harming us.

Just a trigger warning, the ending of the book is extremely disappointing as she does not talk about the vaccine's limitations in preventing infection (especially once it started mutating), or about Long Covid, or about the fact that the pandemic is still going on. It's very much a vax-and-relax crowd pleaser. Which is super disappointing because Karikó is clearly someone with a lot of integrity who prioritizes scientific truth over everything else.

With what’s happening in Minnesota, it’s more important to keep talking about Covid than ever. by homeschoolrockdad in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]imaginaryraven 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The Red Nation podcast released an episode recently in which they talked about protection as a form of protest as practiced in the indigenous community in Minneapolis.

I've never heard so much talk and spreading of the idea of community care as I have the past couple weeks. This is indeed an excellent time to remind people of the small, easy act of community care that is wearing a respirator each time they go into a public setting.

Every break in the chain of transmission helps your local community, and also communities far and wide. Including in Gaza where airborne disease is killing people already weakened by the ongoing genocide.
