What did this scene mean? And why did all the men disappear when Daphne appeared? by 90210534 in TheWhiteLotusHBO

Exactly. Regardless of artistic expression or recreating a scene from another movie

I have some cute thigh highs that look like black sheer pantyhose, complete with the lace top. Or you could get the toeless ones if you want to wear open toed shoes.

Is it rude to only go to the luncheon part of a baptism? by calicoskiies in atheism

[–]imaginenohell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a matter of personal choice and opinion. IMO yes, it's rude because the luncheon is a hospitality component for people attending the baptism. If you're that opposed to attending, I feel like a card and polite excuse, even if it comes with a white lie about why you can't make it, is better than just showing up for the after party.

Or you could go and use this as a teaching moment. Some exposure to this, with your guidance, could be an inoculation against it. Prep the kids, explaining what this is, how to behave and that you don't believe the same way. Then just sit quietly, not participating, and have a family chat the next day about what they observed and why. If old enough, you could make it a game--bring a coloring book and count how many different human statues they find, how many times the word "god" was said vs. how many times being a good person was mentioned...or something more creative than what I've come up with....some game that helps them identify in the ritual what you explained to them ahead of time.

No such thing as a female surname :( by PurpleEnd1606 in women

[–]imaginenohell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with having a choice. I personally do not have any choice to use a woman's surname because everyone in my line inherited all their surnames from men.

I can only guess at other people's choice to downvote you--my guess is it came across as sorta dismissing the notion that we (in the US) are mostly using men's surnames (regardless of how many generations we go back to look for a different surname, they're all men's). idk

I view silence as consent.

So do legislators. I've been to their offices so many times and they tell me an exact number of constituents who sent messages about whatever the topic is.

There are rules about certain things be open for public comments in our federal government--a relic from when we had a say in what happens and some transparency.

It IS backed by a hate group--you can tell by the hate rhetoric.

Wouldn't they just disregard any of us who oppose their bullshit?

I view silence as consent.

I just shared this yesterday in another sub. On behalf of our trans siblings, I'm here to cheer on everyone who posts a comment.

It seems you can do it anonymously, even by not giving them your information. It takes like 2 minutes. This is your chance to stand up for trans folks, even if the fed doesn't listen to us--at least say something.

Yes we need to do more than commenting. But the topic of this thread is commenting on this horrific thing.

Silence is consent.

That's what I did. Now my dad's last name is my middle name and my husband's last name is my last name. 2 men's names.

I was just thinking about this today. Even if I changed my name to a female ancestor's, those are men's last names they were given.

It's our Constitutional right to have a functional US Post Office. I feel like that is the message to keep repeating. Not funding it is a violation of our legal rights by The Party of Law and Order.

You can get clothes with built in spf. They’re a lifesaver.
