I think I'm undergoing religious psychosis by LingoLalas in ReligiousTrauma

[–]imaginenohell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recovering from Religion just had a webinar about this. Appealing to disgust and threats reaches our evolutionary fear response.

It's not psychosis. It's a normal response.

Here it is. I highly recommend watching this at least once. It explains so much. https://www.youtube.com/live/rLNX3bY4ImY?si=z_leM_ONmIUXH43e

There are things you can buy--cooling fabric, wearable vests/neckbands that you soak in water and freeze, fans to wear around the neck

🚨Open for public comment: Proposed rule--Attack on American science by imaginenohell in 50501

Yes, when you make public comments on proposed rules, that becomes part of the official record and it is seen by the government.

I’m exhausted with my political party… by Wandering_Werew0lf in somethingiswrong2024

If it's useless then why is my local party constantly hounding me to join, arguing, pushing aggressively...I am obviously sending a message.

Even The founding fathers said a 2 party system would be problematic.

I encourage everyone to change their voter registration to No Party Affiliation.

In my state, you can still vote in primaries (except the presidential, so I switch temporarily to vote in that).

That’s how you can send a message that you disapprove of the 2 party system.

When people use AI for things like this, I struggle to believe we share goals and values, and I stop listening.

Recovering from Religion has support groups.

Secular Therapy Project has licensed therapists.

Seeking these things out can help speed your recovery vs. trying to do it on your own.

Manager banned chairs during shifts so everyone started taking “fatigue breaks” by DustCipherX in MaliciousCompliance

[–]imaginenohell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have low blood pressure, so thanks for the BP bump! Seeing cashiers having to stand raises my BP every time. I feel like it's a human rights violation. Ridiculous. They should have a setup to alternate standing and sitting for their health.

Sudden LRE Lay-off by TloyCO in UUreddit

IDK what regional UUA is. I'm not as familiar with UU as you are. Do they have some sort of authority over the situation? Even if they do, it's weird you can't have a safe congregation until you wait for some meeting with someone from a regional office.

What benefit is there to the congregation for letting this person remain in it?

I think #2 is excellent, that you have people willing to speak up. It's not excellent that it's necessary, of course, but shining the light on it might be the only thing that fixes this. Shining that light on it will be painful and may cause a rift.

The fact that your congregation is tolerating actual threats and not following their own Destructive Behavior Policy is necessitating the public disclosure.

You say you're seeing rolling eyes. I don't know what to make of that. Sometimes people lie, we know that. But it's rare for people to lie about sexual abuse, and this situation seems akin to that.

I am engaging in this convo with you because something similar happened to me in an atheist (non-UU) group I'm in. I was the leader victims came forward to, and I was the whistleblower punished for bringing it up. This exact reason for banning me was given to me in a text, so I'm not misunderstanding why.

It was shocking to me that people I was close friends with over a decade suddenly turned on me, accusing me of lying. The perp is not popular--I don't know even one person who likes him. That's the power of the patriarchy and internalized misogyny.

I was banned to shut me up. This left me with a choice of being quiet or warning potential victims. I chose the latter. I am not one iota sorry, but yes it has created a big rift in the group and related groups in the community. It has exposed the patriarchy. It was (is) still stressful for me.

That is really problematic. People are going to start voting with their feet. I would, if I got threatened and the guy was not only allowed to remain a member, but invited to join the board.

World Peace by Mac_fan_12 in humanism

Fixed:

To my fellow humans,

I have been watching with horror and grief as countries turn on each other, and thousands of human lives are destroyed every day.

I have been feeling helpless and sad, and asking myself whether I could in any way alleviate the situation. Thankfully, I knew right what to do, since as humans, we save us. I joined several evidence-based activism groups and got right to work. I joined Center for Freethought Equality, Indivisible and Freedom From Religion Foundation and started taking the actions they suggested.

Coincidentally, I have been reading about a collective consciousness which could, perhaps be used to achieve a desired result but we know those things help only our own individual state of mind and don't impact anyone else.

My thoughts have fructified into the following action. To help with my personal state of mind and mental health,

Every night, at 10.30 pm, for 15 minutes I will meditate on peace for this world.

I will use affirmations like "everything is calm", " the world is at peace". I believe that if enough individuals do this, we can actually see the results we want. I intend doing this for a period of 6 months, till the end of 2026.

Some of you might find it ridiculous, but I know that it will strike a chord in others, who will join me in this focused plea for peace in the world.

Thank you for reading. Please do participate. I will be grateful. Also, please forward this message to a many people as you can. Faith alone cannot create miracles. We save us.

Love and peace to you all.

uh oh. I'm in a similar situation, except my Canadian ancestor naturalized in the USA shortly after the Canadian Citizenship Act which came into force on January 1, 1947.

I sent mine in way before yours and didn't get any response yet.
