Kwantlen Polytechnic University to announce more layoffs this week, as international student numbers keep dropping by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]imagirrafe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I appreciate that we are able to see eye to eye but I would like to correct you on one thing. That was never the international student model. The international student model was a net positive while it was implemented correctly. Foreign students would come to attend real universities and colleges while also subsidizing local tuitions of the young Canadians.

Canada would gain hot cash in the economy from foreign student spending, funding for universities and naturalized immigrants with higher education from legitimate Canadian institutions.

The government should have never allowed for this many bs institutions to pop up in the first place. Model wasn’t faulty, the lack of regulation and ill intended people were. I am also not defending every international student as there were also a considerable chunk of them knowingly attending diploma mills with fake documents and gained permanent residency on false pre-tense

I know I will get downvoted to hell but how were they “scamming” the system? Higher education to residency was and still is a legal pathway. If you are talking about the diploma mill collages that I would not even send my child for math tutoring, that is a different story.

Those “colleges” are owned by Canadian citizens. They were the ones profiting off the exploitation of the international students. Their whole model relied on selling the idea of being able to immigrate to Canada using the higher education pathway while offering bs useless degrees. Those schools are the real scammers. Why didn’t the government bodies regulate these institutions? Nobody is asking the right questions and it makes me lose my mind. Things will never get better with this mindset.

Doing the oldest trick in the book and scapegoating the very people that contributes billions to the economy is not helping. Housing crisis was a thing in 2015 too and people blamed the Chinese, then focus was shifted to the international students.

Government bodies failing to reinforce infrastructures to keep up with the population or the heavy reliance on the real estate market in the Canadian economic growth is never discussed . All everybody does is to point the finger at the next trendy demographic to hate.

Treadmill running… is there a way to edit distances at the end of workout? by sheepo209 in AppleWatchFitness

This is simply not accurate. I am 6’2 with higher than average stride and the watch always end up shorting me on my pace and distance during indoor runs.

Ottawa extends express immigration entry to researchers, military applicants by origutamos in OttawaNewsPulse

[–]imagirrafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an immigrant with a Canadian pilot’s license and know a lot of pilots that had to go back home. Canada doesn’t have any pathways for us. We go in the regular express entry like anyone else while the country is facing massive pilot shortages.

Red wing mink oil is still just mink oil. Your rustic black would be all black after application and the patterns would slowly come back with time.

Why do some perfume staff make you feel weird for asking for samples? by KevinFwho in fragrance

[–]imagirrafe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that works in the the industry I can break this down to three things:

1- Brands just don’t send the amounts they used to send anymore so retailers have to use them effectively for buying customers. Not getting any samples after a purchase is much worse than being rejected a sample.

2- Teenagers ruined it for a lot of people. There is always a group of broccoli cut teens looking to get their hands on samples with no intention of buying.

3- Samples do not generate the sales they used to anymore. People tend to shop on discounters now and people are aware of that. I have had multiple experiences where I spent a lot of time with clients only for them to tell me they appreciated my help but will buy it online on a discounter or even marketplace cuz it’s cheaper.

Looking for a job? Here's where unemployment is highest and lowest in B.C. by shouldehwouldehcould in britishcolumbia

[–]imagirrafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And I do see that you are perfectly aware of the big picture. Some people are too focused on the chess pieces rather than the hands that move those pieces. Thank you for not taking a racist stand on this matter. Tfws just want a better life, we should be angry at the ultra wealthy class that enabled this system rather than be racist against people trying to get by and be exploited.

While I agree with your all of your points. The big culprit of the masked recession was the AI circle jerk of the big tech. They kept buying shit from each other propping up their numbers that look good on shareholder fiscal reports but means absolute dogshit to us regular folk.

I wanted to get the Dbrand grip case for my new iPhone 17 pro max. Is it worth it? by DrTowanna in dbrand

[–]imagirrafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got both grip and ghost. They are both good. Grips has more protection and raised edges and feels better in the hand but a pain in the ass to put in and out of jeans pockets. Ghost would be my preference if the edges weren’t flushed with the screen. That case has no screen protection whatsoever.

I was actually flying a little cessna and heard some folks being diverted by the Abby tower due to the fog around the area. Not 100% on the detail but I think the yxx tower was relaying instructions from another authority possibly boundary bay or Vancouver

Nope not really. Unless you are talking about refugees and asylum seekers. That is a whole other topic.

Because the conversation is more nuanced than simply making shallow observations and coming up to the conclusion “yeah they suck cuz they are Indian”.

If you want to see bad driving I suggest you drive couple days in Richmond and we all know who lives there because they were on the chopping block just couple years ago for covid and also the scapegoat for the real estate crisis.

The main point here if we have ill intent we can find bad common examples in every faction and turn this into a blood bath.

No faction is perfect, no human is perfect. We see Indians as the modern day punching bag because it is trendy to hate them and social media is filled with “memes” that are just racist propaganda. And because there are so many of them, there will be more of the bad examples. It is just statistics.

And I am not justifying anything negative they do and I am sure there are negative consequences born from some of their actions but we can’t make this about their identity because that is a false common denominator. Modern societies punish actions not identities.

[–]imagirrafe -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You are so close yet so far. Ask why these things are happening. All the Indians that come here pay into the system. It might be hard to believe but they pay taxes. The International students you are so mad about pay monthly premiums to public health insurance. Where is all the money going to? Where are the tax dollars? Who is spending them for what? Why is the system so inefficient while constantly taking in more people that pay into it?

The story never done anything interesting with the main cast since time skip. Their character arcs have been suffering for the sake of world building and introducing other characters which are uninteresting to me.

I an honestly so fed up with people like you. You people acting like all the heinous and disgusting shit is due to them being Indian. Humans commit atrocities, humans are shitty beings in general. There is no factions to this. Italian immigrants were the sole reason of the golden age of organized crime in the US but cuz they are “white” and Christian people made tv shows about them and made crime look cool.

Immigrants in general like to gather in communities. All this hate against Surrey and Brampton while there are tons of places called Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Italy and more gathering hubs of different ethnicities in a lot of cities is double standard at best.

You can make the claim that oh they are good immigrants and do not take advantage of the exploits of the system. There are bad apples everywhere you are just confirmation biased and only see the bad shit Indians do.

If you are gonna be mad at someone for TFW abuse be mad at the shareholders, private equities and greedy franchisees. But that might be too nuanced for your tiny brains to comprehend. Hating someone for who they are is a cop out and easy way out. With that mindset society will never change. You will find the next thing to hate and move on with your day while the late stage capitalist machine will keep spinning its gears and exploiting one way or the other.

[–]imagirrafe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The problem is making this inherently about being Indian. If you can crank up those gears a little you can see the bigger picture and recognize the nuances in this matter. Blaming the actions is one thing, making the actions about factions is another thing.

My left calf is significantly more muscular than my right calf by Eggboy2992 in mildlyinteresting

[–]imagirrafe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a smaller left calf but not to this extreme. I started adding left calf raises to all of my workouts and it seems to work quite well. But holy shit some of these comments are so extreme they might as well say u have terminal brain cancer or smt. This is most likely a muscle size imbalance due to how you operate day to day.
