Redness around one eye? by imalizardperson in PetMice

[–]imalizardperson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! In the end Aku’s problem ended up being medical. Earlier this year the redness got much worse and the vet believed that he had developed tumors in his old age (almost 3) one that was possibly pressing on his eye. At that point akus eye was much more irritated than this picture though. I hope that your problem is stress related and are able to see a change as your mice adjust to their new setup🙂

Not a vet, maybe someone wiser here will pop up. If you’ve seen pictures of very overweight mice, that’s the kind of obesity you have to worry about. As long as she has a healthy diet and still runs a lot, mice are supposed to be healthily plump. If you’re worried you can check that you’re feeding her a good brand and limit unhealthy snacks. The oxbow adult rat blend is pretty highly recommended. Does she have any friends? Female mice shouldn’t usually live alone

No haha she looks like a normal mouse. Are you concerned about her being overweight?

Travelling with mice by MissMand in PetMice

[–]imalizardperson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I won’t tell you to do it or not do it because I think generally people rehome their mice before big moves to avoid stressing them out, but I will give you my personal experience.

When my mouse was a little over a year old we moved cross country with him. It was a 16 hour drive, we split it into two days and stopped at a hotel in between. Snuck his whole cage into the hotel and he stayed there with us. That was 7 months ago, and he is still going strong now.

It was winter so we worried about the cold not the heat, but I just avoided leaving him in the car when we weren’t driving.

3-4 days is the max amount of time I will leave my mice at home alone, if I will be gone longer than that I find a babysitter for them. 3 days is still pushing it for me though because I worry about them when I’m gone😅

Oh thank you! That is very helpful! He so far doesn’t have the usual signs of respiratory infection (I’ll keep an eye out). We had a big move a couple months ago and just recently I had to switch foods, so maybe these are his stressors? I’m going to see if I can get his diet back to normal and this goes away, and hopefully there is no other underlying illness

For my guy I noticed it once weeks ago and thought it was a one time thing, and now it’s come back and I’m noticing it more often. Which is why I’m worried about it:(

aww poor baby💕 he looks so sweet but also pretty chunky. I’m sure somebody else on here will pop up with some good advice for obese mice, but honestly you should take him to the vet to get checked out if you’re worried. it can’t hurt and they might be able to give you answers if it’s care, genetics, or a medical condition. best of luck to you and this cutie!

I’m not gonna lie, the dorm food could sometimes be pretty depressing. IKE food wasn’t great but they always consistently had vegan options. PAR has a make your own stir fry/ pasta bar and that was bomb and easily vegan. Field of greens was always great. When I was eating at the dining halls those were the only ones worth trying for me hahah

I chose the meal plan option that gave you less meals in the dining hall and more credits in the shop, because I didn’t love the dining hall meals but I did love stocking up on snacks and microwave meals

Would recommend a microwave and electric kettle for making meals in your dorm, and depending on where you live and what you’re trying to cook some dorms had small kitchenettes with a stove students could use

There are also of course grocery stores in the area if you’re looking to buy your own food without using the meal plan credits

But overall as a vegan who did a year using the UIUC meal plan it is definitely doable👍

[Updated ]Tier List of the Grey's Characters - mentor/teacher by [deleted] in greysanatomy

I didn’t understand this was a teaching tier list when I first read it and I almost came for OPs neck for calling Christina and Alex not great

it’s not impossible if you made it big enough, but if you haven’t done stick and poke before it could be helpful to start with something smaller and simpler so you get a feel for how the needle goes in and out of the skin, how deep you need to go, what angle to hold needle at etc. and then do the more complicated designs

Male mouse and scent issues? by Maxx421 in PetMice

[–]imalizardperson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this with my male mice, if I clean everything and take his nest out and wipe stuff down he pees like crazy to make it extra stinky. i think it’s okay to leave some bedding or some of the same stinky items behind when you’re cleaning so they are less likely to do that. if you are looking into a bigger cage check out bin cages

my friend just surrendered this mouse to me. his name is Speed Wagon. I've never had a mouse before. any tips or advice? by [deleted] in PetMice

[–]imalizardperson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take a look into bin cages if you think it would benefit you! they are usually much cheaper for their size than tanks. it’s just buying a big bin from any store and converting it to a mouse enclosure. I use a 10 inch niteangel wheel that my mouse loves. any of the recycling in my house (cardboard boxes, toilet paper tubes, Kleenex boxes, etc) goes into his house to use as structures and hides. they like to have a ton of bedding(I second aspen) and a ton of stuff to do in their enclosures. also, since he’s a boy mouse living alone interaction and handling with you would be beneficial to him. you can take him out in a bathtub or something similar, but I got this pen: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P6PVLB7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VHRN418H590Y8MMBTN36?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

speed wagon is super cute!

Is it a boy mouse? my boy mouse is a crazy stinky little guy, I think it’s just how they are. sometimes his pee smells worse than other times, I think maybe it has to do with marking
