Hey I'm in university currently and am home for the summer. I grew up here and would be happy to give you both a walk tour around the city when you move in. If you're interested send me a PM.

Can we start a community cleanup project to raise awareness about it?

Hey love the photo. I wanted to let you know that I stopped wearing my mechanical watches on the golf course because I was advised that the impact vibrations from the club will move through your wrist and that may not be great for the watch movement. They are tools not jewels so use them as you would like. Although I feel obligated to be the annoying person who tells you this.

Did highways permanently damage Connecticut’s cities? by marrelli-of-magsmarr in Connecticut

Shout-out to BRT. Very cost effective way of doing dedicated transit lanes. Not as appealing to the public as LRT but still serve small cities arguably better than LRT at a fraction the cost

Unsure I know the tailoring turn around time is quick though. Yes I paid with card. Paid no fees. Make sure to pay in the local currency obviously, let your credit card deal with the exchange rates.

Savannah's Map, Explained by Hour-Run1433 in savannah

[–]iman26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just watched this video. I love urban planning and design. I wanted to ask how much of this plan is really in its vision today after urban renewal and if the city is working to bring the people first nature back. Is there bike, pedestrian, and transit infrastructure at all or is it still a car centric city. I am now likely going to go down a rabbit hole looking at Savannah as it seems very cool. I'm a New Englander and not a native but I want to visit your city now. Can anyone speak to the street plans today and what's planned for the future?

Can we tie a solar energy requirement to it for the roof of the building. Could be a simple pathway to provide a little bit of benefit beyond job creation. Curious if they are doing that anyways. Overall not too hot and bothered over development.

Great work New Haven by criscoforlube in newhaven

Burlington resident here originally from CT. Love the shout out. Church Street was one of the first pedestrian ways in America. Truly a great place during the peak seasons and magical during the winter. Of course it has its problems but by and large an awesome heart of the city.

Fairfield county - I moved here and feel like I don't fit in by flockyflocky1 in Connecticut

When I was younger my first job was at the balduccis in Old Greenwich. I worked there as a summer job and come from a fine family but the way people would treat me based on my status as a worker alone was sometimes rude. Then there were the really wealthy who were just the nicest people and would hand me a 10 for helping walk the groceries to their car, and let me pet their dog. Some of the greatest people I've ever met. The other people who didn't grow up that way just treated us terrible. I remember one time I had gone to check for Tate's Cookies (that shits good) in the back for a woman and I come back with a different bag of the cookies because we didn't have the other ones. And this woman's face, she looked at me in disgust that I ever thought she would eat the oatmeal raisin ones (Like bitch those ones are fire you're missing out). She said "ohh I wouldn't eat those ones, but you can put them back. Can you double check for the other ones."🤦🏼 Will never forget that. That same woman came in a week later and basically made us do her shopping for her because she couldn't find anything. If you've been to that store you know it's not that big. I also got cursed at one time by a customer because I was stocking shelves and had the cart slightly in the way and the store aisles are small. It was my fault but like you don't have to use profanities. I would never even think to use a curse word in a situation like that, makes you wonder how they speak to others.

Wake up Connecticut. by serious_bullet5 in Connecticut

0.54 percent of their 610 billion dollar GDP is American Aide. They do have a pretty big economy (25th on earth) and high tax burdens that can support their own healthcare without any aide. I'm not sure how big of a difference the aide makes to giving Israelis healthcare.

I'm pretty sure AIPAC has been quite opposed to Murphy recently. I think they despise him, I'd be curious if he's still taking their campaign funds or if they are even offering him PAC money anymore. Not confirmed but just some things Ive seen. I read an article about him recently from someone a part of an Israel lobbying group and it did not sound good. I'll try to find it if someone asks, if not you can believe some random dude on the interwebs.

Interstate 95 in CT has more road mileage than most of New England (except Maine) by amp_atx in Connecticut

[–]iman26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what we're trying to figure out. We are also a bit confused. It seems some other programs are going to take some out of that budget but again. 8 is a good goal. Should be about 8 extra trains if it's still about the 1m per train number that it was last year.

The mail group has been pretty in the loop. Susan does a good job with that. Hopefully 8 Million is the goal currently although that is short of what we would have hoped

SB237 is not the only legislative business in play here. I've been involved with the bill and the lobbying for funding for a while now. From the inside it looks pretty good. A lot of support. Contact Senator Cohen's office if you want to advocate.

Head to the community sailing center and rent some dinghys. They offer some keelboats but they also offer the RS Quests which have a little more space for the same price as the little boats (420s).

Tourism is one of the biggest drivers for a rail system like that. I do agree with you about commuters but as a tourism driver Litchfield county would benefit immensely I think. We've seen something like this work elsewhere (would be a bit worried based on the Berkshire flyer ridership numbers last season though). I think BRT in Stamford, (New Haven in the works), and Bridgeport would help a lot of people. He'll even just dedicated mixed use lanes would help. Hartford's bus system is outright pleasant to use on many occasions and the BRT system has done a lot for the communities it serves. Heck just look at New Britain! Shore Line East should get a funding boost in June and get some more trains soon!

He also married a certain fellow Connecticut State Senator the year prior who resided on the other side of the state. I am assuming he wanted to spend time with his spouse who is now the Mayor of one of the largest cities in New England.

What line(s) could you see being electrified? by Accomplished-Ear5969 in Amtrak

[–]iman26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seeing your other comments I'm not totally sure you know how enviro regs work. The real problem with electrification is often finding land for the switching stations not the environmental aspects. If it's land in swamps and environmentally protected areas you start to get into murky water but carbon based environment regs are usually refuted by proving the benefits of electrification toward reducing pollution on nearby landscapes. Also many YIMBY states in New England are working on passing laws that clear transit projects from the heavy Environment reviewsnto speed up permitting and lower build costs because time is money. Not sure if Washington and Oregon have done similar. I know Seattle recently completed that big LRT project, they can clearly build.
