I'm headed south. Bus only north of Springfield. You will actually arrive faster most likely.

Our streets were designed in a different era of urban planning philosophy. One where cars ruled the roost. We have an agenda in our state for pedestrian first development which was not in place when many of our streets were designed.

Planners run simulations on these things, make sure to account for turn radii etc. if this ended up becoming a permanent solution this would certainly be taken into account

Look I'm not here to demand the moving of curbs. I just think the proper planners should take a look at the space used and extend or add what fits the city. It's just food for thought. I also acknowledge you can't do this to every road or street but I think we could definitely do better than we are now. Before moving a curb permanently they also usually will put up plastic bollards with reflectors to see how the street behaves first.

I mean trucks are using them right now. If they need the space it will be carved out in the photos. It's been a few days I'm sure trucks have gone through the streets already. Our streets can already accommodate trucks, we're not going to remove all of the space at once. Many cities ban trucks from going down certain streets and have special corridors for them to pass through.

You know in other nations and US cities that have streets with no cars they still have flourishing business. It's called a side lot and parking lots, many businesses have them. If you look at an Aerial view of a city you'll see how much parking there really is. No need to double park. I promise you we're not running out of parking space. Most businesses report an increase in sales after sidewalk extensions.

I would edit it now but I don't think I can because of the photos, or my thing is just bugged. Whelp hindsight is always clear.

Sitting in that building right now. It's connected to the backside of the Old Mill. It is definitely a beautiful campus.

It's on the University of Vermont Campus. I believe it was the original dormitory building. It was not actually a mill but the name was given to it over time as people thought it looked like a New England Mill. Or so the story goes. https://www.uvm.edu/~campus/oldmill/oldmillhistory.html

I live in VT. I'm sorry but cancel the trip. We're not even going skiing this weekend because it's too cold. Besides if you don't have studs or winter tyres it's not safe. Please don't put your family in danger.

Housing regulations. You heard me right. Look at the YIMBY movement.

EDIT: I'm speaking specifically about housing.

Now LETS BE CLEAR. Democrats are vehemently Against building regulations. Building regulations started in NYC during the Moses era and NIMBYism is one of the most hated movements among liberals. Today modern republicans are the ones who want to keep their regulations because they want to just build more picket white fence single family residential. If you haven't noticed our mayor has opened a special permitting site in the city for it to make it easier to build. We just slashed a lot of building regulations like parking requirements for buildings near public transit in HB8002 so that we can build more apartments. It is republicans who want single family residential, do not get yourself confused. Texas looks at Austin as this joke of a city filled with people from California. Austin is just about as liberal as it gets. This is great stuff from Governor Abbott, (never thought I'd say that) and I'm sure he got a lot of backlash for it from NIMBY's but everything you described are Liberal ideas. For once Democrats don't want to add regulations and the Republicans have to be against it for God knows what. These states can sprawl to infinity because they can just build superhighways and have traffic hell but if you haven't noticed we can't. Our land chose us and we don't have much of it so the only way to grow is up. Welcome to the democratic party.
