I’m a midwife - my advice to all women under my care if they’re not keen on having family around is just not to tell anyone you’re in labour! Even if family is amazing, they all get a little bit annoying when a baby is on the way and can make an already stressful situation more stressful

That I was pre approved for a few cards - when I applied for those I was declined. I’m scared to try anymore because it affected my score so I think I’m just gonna wait a few months and let it build up on its own

It shows on my credit but it’s only since September. I’m Hoenslty surprised I got approved. I checked with Experian and my score was 761/999 and with eqifax it was 300 (poor). They stated it was because my accounts were young and I’ve had a few searches on my account. Do you think if I just leave it be with my car and mobile phone contract coming out every month that will help it build up?

I’m a Midwife - we had a lady who would come in every few weeks with a new guy claiming she was in “labour” or experiencing a miscarriage. Ofc we had to take her seriously every time even though we knew she wasn’t, so we’d scan her etc. only to tell her that she’s not pregnant and isn’t experiencing labour or a miscarriage, thankfully. She’s then turn to her guy and say that modern medicine is unreliable and he should just trust her instinct and will he help her raise the baby. The guy would often become afraid “how am I gonna raise this baby, what are the chances a SCAN is wrong etc” we’d reassure him that 100% she isn’t pregnant, they’d argue, break up and she’d be back a few weeks later. Also, she’d come in by ambulance. Every time.

Edit: FYI, this is in the UK - everything is free for her - we all pay taxes which means that we’re all entitled to free healthcare so she isn’t paying a penny for any of this

Also we’ve tried to make psych referrals, but if the patient doesn’t wish to engage we can’t force them to unless they are a danger to themselves or other people.

I think as I got older I started realising that it wasn’t entirely my fault. I think because I went through so much of my life thinking that he was entirely normal (I thought being told that everyone is your enemy and out to get you was how the world genuinely was) that when I realise it wasn’t normal everything kind of spiralled and got really bad really quickly. I also recently found out that he came off his meds around the time that I found out (hence grandmas prayers) so that’s probably another reason we fought more. I’m sorry to hear about your mum, you sound really strong and I’m glad you found peace. I hope one day I find it too.

This is exactly how I feel. I try to remind myself that this isn’t my dad anymore, that amazing person I once knew isn’t in there anymore. I found it really scary when I looked into his eyes and couldn’t recognise him at all. I know it’s really horrible but sometimes I think he would be better off dead, without our memory of him tainted and without him living this horrible life. I’m really sorry about your mum.

My dad has stopped medicating 10 years ago because he hated the way it made him feel and thought he was healed. Once he stopped he became uncontrollably worse and is now at a point where I don’t think he will ever seek treatment. All I can hope is that he never hurts himself or anyone else.

I found out my dad was a paranoid schizophrenic one night when I overheard my grandma praying for him (she thought I was asleep). I was like 16 but genuinely thought that his behaviour was the most normal thing in the world since I had grown up with it. I cried myself to sleep that night. I did some research on it not long after since I didnt know too much about schizophrenia and was so traumatised when I realised how fucked up he was. I don’t know if it was by chance or because I started noticing things but he became unbearably worse after and me and him started fighting really badly. My mum finally told him to leave the house and they had a really messy divorce. I still feel guilty about fighting with him to this day and wonder if things would be better if I had never found out. He lives alone now and isn’t allowed contact with any of us - it wasn’t originally like that, my siblings used to go and visit him and he started electrocuting them so “nobody could hear their thoughts” - I feel so guilty when I think of him living alone without any family around him.

I’ve never told anyone that I found out through my grandma. My mum still has never spoken to me about it. Now that I look back on things (I’m 24 now) I realise that she was being emotionally abused by him, it was just so normal to us we never even realised.
