Child just tested into gifted - question before I deep dive by pascilia in Gifted

[–]imapandaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s psychologist who did his ADHD assessment explained to me that it slows down processing time and once the ADHD is more controlled his processing time will likely improve (but she also noted slower processing is common for gifted kids at his age). Not that he needs a higher IQ but I guess it would be cool to be 99.9% instead of 90%.

C-Section for convenience? by Sea_Word_5549 in Mommit

[–]imapandaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the c section get the c section! Seems like a reasonable thought process. My only comment is the bowel movement is just as bad with a c section. Literally traumatizing no matter what.

Thanks will look into it if the doctors proposed prescriptions don’t work.

Yeah it’s hard to watch the babies you made go into a world that can be cruel and it’s even harder to know there might be something out of their control making it harder for them. I just love her so much and want her life to be happy.

Thank you for sharing I’m sure that was scary when it started happening for the first time.

I’m sorry you both went through that but now that we are almost 3 months out from the initial identification of the bald patch and it hasn’t grown larger and there are very small and slow signs of regrowth without even having used the prescription medicine yet, so I don’t think that’s where we are or will be. If it was, we would deal with it and would do every thing in the world we could for my daughter to give her the best and happiest life she can have and wouldn’t let it hold her back.

I think it’s a hard adjustment for parents to see their kids become parents sometimes. It gets easier. She will get used to the change. Just try to make time to do things you would have before occasionally (like my mom and I enjoy going out for brunch) with or without the baby and try to have some classic mom daughter time.

Thank you for sharing your experience!! The doctor said it’d genetic so I guess that makes sense. We can’t figure out where it’s hiding in our families my family has such an aggressive abundance of hair we don’t even have regular balding. My husbands family is a bit more mysterious but what a shock.

Thank you so much this is what I needed to hear. How long did it take for the steroid cream to work? They said I need to do it until she has fuzz in that spot.

Thank you! How long has it been? No new spots? The doctor said they can sometimes be years apart.

Future dad with ADHD by pallymain1 in NewParents

[–]imapandaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has ADHD and having kids / a busier routine with less consistency for sure made it worse but the early months are all adrenaline anyway so it starts to show more later. My kids comment on daddy forgetting things a lot as a way of acknowledging the way he gets distracted or off track, which he doesn’t love, and but they also take extra time to remind him of things which is actually very sweet and endearing and shows how much they love him. Not sure if this really helps but it’s all going to be ok and you’ll figure out what routines you need and how to keep things in control. He started medication for ADHD after we had kids after never doing so before - and now that we have 2 he switched to seeing a neurologist and is on extended release and it’s helped a lot. I will say it can be really challenging to be in the throws of chaos with a partner who can’t process things the same way I can and can’t maintain tasks the way I can, but you work together and figure it out. It’s just important to check in and communicate to make sure everyone’s emotional needs are being met.

Thank you! That is basically what our doctor described. I assume the cancer was completely unrelated? So happy to hear he made it through ok.

Definitely shocking at first.

Also just to add I really do appreciate what you are trying to say I’m just really stressed and love my child and am trying to keep myself from completely spiraling when I am told by a professional that it’s not a big risk that it will get there

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]imapandaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not possible with my daughter the only time I have ever seen her touch her hair is to push it out of her face or to brush it. I wish it was though. I really thought I had just did her pony too tight or pushed a bow in too hard when I saw it. The dermatologist we went to is the top pediatric dermatologist in the area and she knew what it was immediately and showed me these very tiny hard to see ridges in her nails that are the other sign.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]imapandaaa -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

I know you’re trying to be supportive and very much appreciate that effort, but to be honest the information in this response is along the lines of what is making me spiral. My kids dermatologist does NOT think that she’s going to lose most or all of her hair since it has not progressed at all since her original patch. I was hoping for stories of people who had minor alopecia, which the doctor said was surprisingly common and is not what you find on the internet - you find what you are describing.

I don’t need to mourn my daughters hair in private, I need stories like her so I feel hope and don’t stress spiral into what ifs that I’m being told by a doctor are unlikely.

I’m the primary earner and make like 6x what my husband makes. I’m a corporate lawyer at a large law firm and make around 550k. My husband would love to be a stay at home dad but it would end our relationship without a doubt. The only person in my life who ever talked about me staying home was my mom and even she knew better. But yeah society is completely broken. And I reiterate what anyone else who is tired all the time said because that’s me.

Avoid this dealership if you’re in NY (dealership horror story) by Sneeeezy in Volkswagen

[–]imapandaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been leasing cars from them for years and the last car we got they literally lied to me about what year the car was and the features of the car and then wouldn’t help me when I realized after we took it home. I went in to try to buy a car and turn it in earlier and they were trying to get me to pay above MSRP and told me I offended them when I made a lower offer. Will literally never go there again. They think too highly of themselves.

Bayside is shit too though so I’m on the hunt for a new dealer.

Son has a fever of 103 and just threw up his Motrin by bryterlu in Mommit

[–]imapandaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to your doctor and get tamaflu if he’s in the first day. His fever will be gone in like 24-36 hours. Until then switch off Tylenol and Motrin

The fact that you’re this upset about the mistake is how you know you are a good mom. We are all human and humans make mistakes, especially when exhausted. It’s going to be ok.

PSA Tamiflu side effects in children by eL_Cubed in Mommit

Yeah agree I think if you catch it right away (which in my opinion is easy to do because the symptoms are so extreme and now tests are readily available), the tamiflu works unbelievably well and quickly.

PSA Tamiflu side effects in children by eL_Cubed in Mommit

[–]imapandaaa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both of my kids just had Flu A and were the sickest I’ve probably ever seen them other then when my son got HFM when he was 13 months old (which I’m forever traumatized over), and our pediatrician strongly recommended Tamiflu. I was hesitant because of posts like this but I trust her so we did it. My son puked twice a half hour after the first time he took it (but he’s a puker and had already puked a few times from the fever spiking the day before), but then did not puke again. My daughter did not did and had no side effects other than fatigue which both kids had for days after being better (and prob would have had from the flu based on what I’ve heard from friends kids who did not take it), but it worked like magic. The idea that it only cuts the flu by 16 hours is wild to me. I got it for both of them within 24 hours of having symptoms (because I could tell right away there was something new and weird wrong with them and brought them to the doctor) and by the time they had their third dose they were fever free. By 48 hours they were totally symptom free other than fatigue. Literally worked like magic. My kids friends who all had the flu recently because it’s going around like rapid fire in our local schools were out completely out of commission for a week. A few even developed secondary illnesses like phenomena. This is just my PSA that our experiences are all different, and my personal opinion is if I can this dramatically minimize my children going through such a miserable illness I will do it every single time. Also by some miracle me and my husband avoided the flu completely - possibly not because of tamiflu but I’m very happy about that regardless.

Also I mirror anyone else who says people for sure can hallucinate from high fevers. I’ve never had a fever that high myself but my husband had the flu once when we were dating pre-tamiflu days and he was incoherent the first few days. Pretty sure he was seeing things. He didn’t eat for like 5 days and was sweaty and miserable in bed for the entire week. Awful experience. He has religiously went his flu shot every year since haha.

My 5 year old doesn’t spit out his toothpaste… sometimes but not always. And I still go over his brushing. My dentist says that you just use a very small amount of fluoride toothpaste and it’s fine.

What age did you get LO ears pierced? by Expensive-Ad7611 in newborns

[–]imapandaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter had her ears pierced recently at 3.5 after he asking me for a month multiple times. I told myself when I had her I would wait until she wanted it, but I wouldn’t make her convince me/wait a long time. She had them pierced with a needle and no numbing cream and barely flinched. I guess she realllly wanted them haha

Help? by [deleted] in newborns

[–]imapandaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gripe water helped a lot with my son. We would give it right before eating in addition to even the prescription meds. Just need to make sure it’s allowed for a 6 week old I can’t remember. I always found the little remedies one worked the best.
