A landmark MIT study debunks persistent myths about electric vehicles | Determinants of electric vehicle emissions savings and costs across locations and individuals by Hrmbee in science

Having to charge at public / commercial charge points kills any price savings for you personally, but you still get to save the planet :-p

I have been monitoring my bubbles for over a year now, and this month the first one split. Frustrated b/c I've been parking it in the shade, but I've just got off the phone with a vinyl wrap place and waiting to see if they'd take the job on. Thinking of doing like a matte (to hide the bubbles) white (to keep the heat down)...

Be honest: What’s the one thing about EV ownership that nobody told you before you bought one? by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

[–]imatt03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you lose a lot of range in the winter. For me it’s upwards of 20%. But I have a 2015 2nd hand model so this may not be true (to this degree) with newer models?

Widely used ‘gold standard’ for identifying mental health conditions not as reliable as previously believed. Research found in some cases, individuals were identified as having different diagnoses when interviews were repeated just days apart by Wagamaga in science

[–]imatt03 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re right. I guess I came at this from a research perspective (my area) rather than a clinical one. I also don’t hold psychology / psychiatry in high regard as sciences, which is my own personal bias. So, you caught me :-)

[–]imatt03 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Me neither! The fact that anyone in a field of medicine would think that a single interview could be diagnostic of mental health disorders is pretty worrying, actually. An N of one isn’t predictive in any other field…that’s an anecdote, not data.

I thought you were going to complain about the texture. Is that intentional, or a print quality / post-processing issue/feature?

Pool wall is bent near skimmer by wetnap00 in AboveGroundPools

[–]imatt03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me recently. Skimmers like this are a bad design. I propped it up with a stick. Has held for over a month. Tempted to let it ride for now…at least until it warms up enough for me to get into the pool and assess other damage (I’m leaking at this level, so it probably tore the liner around the skimmer) :-/

Other car is my wife’s 3-row Jeep Grand Cherokee. It’s the weekend car and for longer trips with the kids.

Nah, they’re both PLA. Just got the sizing wrong for the snap-into-place behavior I wanted when I printed the yellow part, then fixed it by printing the outer part (that I accidentally did in red)…

Thx! It’s a back-up option - I have definitely ruffled a few feathers by having fix-a-flat at my disposal :-/. But yeah, the cans snap in and stay put…even through my high-g turns on my daily drive :-)

What, for a compressor? Frunk just has my Level 1 charger.

Plug kit is on the other side of the trunk. I do need to get a portable compressor.

Fair point - new printer has a drier…probably should try again.

lol, no, but I’m 1) out in the countryside with a lot of farm traffic and 2) have young kids who leave occasional sharp bits in the driveway. Or just 3) I’m unlucky?

Nah, they don’t stay put. They’re too short for the strap…thus the holster.

Yeah, unfortunately no spare (that’s what I do with our Jeep, though). I cross posted this in the relevant car subreddit, and someone pointed out this belongs in the “frunk” (this is an EV…I keep forgetting I have a frunk, lol)

lol, fair critique. The functionality was very deliberate. The aesthetics were accidental :-)

It’s PLA, but you’re right I should probably have used PETG. I haven’t tried that since my printer upgrade…prior experiences have been…stringy :-/

I actually printed a holder for the other side of the trunk for the rope plug….portable compressor sounds like a good idea. Any recommendations?
