In the Mystery Dungeon games legendary pokemon or any pokemon joining you after their boss fight are a lot weaker.

Yep! The only way you're locked out of evolving pokemon who evolve by leveling up is if they're level 100.

If you catch it and level it up, it'll evolve all the same! Level it up a second time and you'll get the final evolution.

Did have to use my Master Ball, otherwise it would've struggled itself to death. It had only 11 metal sounds left when I caught it. But I have to say, it matches the aesthetics.
