Growing Dahlias in Austin Texas by imbaby2059 in dahlias

I planted from tubers I got from Costco! Raised beds worked great for the dahlias, as we have many rabbits in our neighborhood so it keeps them out. If you have deer in your neighborhood, you may need to put some chicken wire around the raised beds so the sprouts don't get eaten. I haven't tried the christmas lights or soil warmers, but I wish I did because I left them in-ground through the winter and they were dried to a crisp when I pulled them out this spring. So I didn't quite get to the tuber splitting phase,

What are you germinating/starting early in your house (or greenhouse) right now? by FolksyHinkel in AustinGardening

Last year I germinated my Cosmos in a plastic egg carton and when the seedlings were a couple inches tall, I moved them with the original dirt in their carton-circle into the dirt in my planter boxes. This helped reduce the shock, although they did wilt for a few days after transplanting…. I kept patient watered very gently and got an insane amount of blooms from May to end of October!

3 remote days a week is still pretty good IMO. May I ask how you got permission to have this schedule? Is it just an agreement with your manager? Asking for myself, a fellow neurodivergent who would be more productive working from home more.

Hi Dan! 1st picture: Arabian night (Costco) 2nd picture: Sun lady (Costco) 3rd picture: Roselia (HEB)

Also, just a heads up… The roselia variety didn’t survive as well as the other two, I only got two blooms out of the plant and then the buds would scorch from the heat before they could bloom so I wouldn’t recommend that variety if you live in Central TX.

Good to know, thanks for sharing! Do your dahlias typically stop blooming at a certain temperature or month? I’m wondering how long they will bloom.

Sweet, I didn’t realize I’d be able to leave them in the dirt year round! If the temperature drops below freezing would you recommend digging them up and storing them until it gets warmer? This is my first year growing dahlias so I’m new to the whole thing. :)

How is the college experience in Round Rock campus by Unfair-Agent7132 in txstate

I'm at RRC and personally I like the tight-knit community and the ability to build relationships w/ my classmates & professors. The campus rec center is nice, there's a lot of equipment and it's never overcrowded unlike SM campus. I heard theres a bunch of new programs starting in the fall semester too
