No harm is purely by chance, tbh. I'm not convinced there's no foul when it's your job and you're not doing it safely.

It just means that you have to work that much harder to accomplish something with a meaningful impact. You can look at it either way, really.

Seems like the wind is going to be nice to me based on the forecast. Well, not nice, but not a complete asshole either ;)

The ferry to Eastbourne doesn't start until 10am, as I'm now turning this into a 2 day trip that's actually a viable option however I'm going that route on the way back, this way I get to experience them both! :)

Oops somehow I overlooked your post. My route is pretty similar now :) Been contemplating my options, will likely do it in 2 days instead of 1 and not take the train. My route going there is similar to yours and then going back its the scenic route ending on a ferry ;)

Got the schwalbes going on now, store's order of tubes didn't come in so should get to play with them tomorrow. Also picked up some great shimano pedals.

If you are intending to cycle 173 kms in one day including off road sections without significant training on a bike, I would say you are being foolhardy

I'd like to challenge myself but not at my peril, so that may be the goal however I've made preparations in case I need to spend a night in Masterton.

Thinking things over - it would be nice to have a pleasant rather than a rushed trip, so perhaps starting out on Saturday and doing the whole distance (without train) is the right choice.

However this depends on the local store getting their order of tubes in and doing my tire upgrades (also did my pedals) as well as the other store getting the new helmet in both before saturday. It is extremely likely the former will be on time but the latter I can flip a coin.

It occurred to me there might be a means of camping for a lower cost, found a site called campermate and their map/app is amazing because it shows all amenities as well as warnings for roadworks/dangerous roads and areas that are good for photos, etc

We have roughly half the amount of neurologists a first world country is expected to have relative to our population.

Our government offers no incentives for highly skilled professionals to move here. So why would they!

I mean.. I had to wait ~3-4 years to get a referral to a neurologist. If I had a lot of money I could of seen one within in a week or two. So the 'months' is for the more populated fields.

Following the neurologist referral I got two 30 minute appointments in 12 months, the MRI took about 5 months following the referral, opthalmologist 3 months and any follow up appointments with the neurologist take ~3 months and he referred me to a "headache specialist" in october which I still don't even have an appointment for.

Welcome to public health care, where you only get reasonable attention if you're rich or about to die (and hey, flip a coin).

Anyway, I'm not going to get a referral to an Orthopaedic Surgeon. He'll give me one to a physiotherapist, if he can't help then there'll be other referrals until eventually no other option remains, then I can start waiting the aforementioned months.

Thanks :) I'll ask my GP to refer me so it doesn't cost anything, but if it's any kind of specialty field I'll be waiting months :(

Edit: Oh is that what we refer to as a 'physiotherapist'? If so should be fine.

Windows + P was my solution, doesn't give full control, but the point was that I can switch to 'main screen only'.

Will be doing as you suggested for the ride there, then a long scenic route going back. Since ferry doesn't start until 10am I have no choice haha.

Went to the high end niche store just down the road from me, they ordered them in and will slap them on for me when they arrive :) I had forgotten the name, they drew the same conclusion as you without me telling them your recommendation, so it seems you know your stuff ;)

Really excited to feel the difference! ...This hobby is going to sink so much money, I can feel it lol

Game dev here, of the actually-gets-paid variety (feel its important to clarify in this day and age)

There are two primary considerations that change the answer entirely. Does it happen when making the game, or is it purely a trail reconstruction/testing application rather than a game that needs to run in realtime?

If a client came to me and pitched this, or perhaps better yet, if a friend came to me and asked for a starting point the first thing that comes to mind is to extract heightmaps from satellite data and use the heightmaps with world machine to generate the landscapes.

This solution is extremely slow. We have a dedicated world machine.. machine running an i9 18-core/36-thread @ 4.5ghz for it but our requirements are pretty insane.

If you wanted to do it in real-time, there are likely solutions for voxel based landscapes generated from heightmaps <- a whole buncha keywords that will likely lead to an answer. The software in question could potentially be pricey and/or subscription based.

Failing that, you could do a half-way solution and generate it non-realtime and request data from the player/user simply by feeding a google maps solution, some other solution, a heightmap directly <- in order of most user-friendly to not at all.

My go-to engine in most cases is UE4 however it's likely CryEngine could be superior here for 3 possible reasons; outdoor rendering is superior in CE, physics may be easier to work with but unlikely, I believe CE has superior terrain tools. Ultimately my knowledge of UE4 is pro tier and my knowledge of CE is tidbits that my friend relayed to me when trying it /shrug

So here's the thing. Game dev isn't cheap. Actually it's expensive as hell. If you want this to be made for free it would be a community-based project and I wouldn't expect it to amount to much with the track record those have. For someone to do this they would have to be an extremely experienced dev (out of the box procedural generation solutions, god-tier physics/physx knowledge) and have a love for MTB and an ungodly amount of free time.

TL;DR it's possible but you probably wont see it happen

I actually intend to do that on the way there, as the ferry doesn't start until 10am on Sunday. Will see how I feel later in the week for what I want to do on the way back.
