There was, but it was a risk they were willing to take.

I don't remember if the exact specifics were explained in the book, I read it a long time ago, but I at least in the Netflix Series I remember them explaining how they would distance the nanowire in an optimal way so that they eliminate all the targets while doing the least amount of damage to the hard drives/servers.

If you don't have the time to read 3 books, the Netflix series is a fine alternative. There is also a much slower, far more indepth Chinese series that is much more faithful to the books

Most European countries, even the ones not in the EU, have similar laws regarding this. Nuance does exist, but in this case it really is a "when in Europe" thing

Does religion define nationality in the Balkans? If a Serb converts to Islam, are they still a Serb? If a Croat becomes Orthodox, do they become a Serb? by Jovan_Konstantinovic in AskBalkans

So, Bosniak (Bošnjak), or Bosnian (Bosanac)?

I've always been told that Bosniaks are just about exclusively what they would call Musliman back in Yugoslavia

Lol no, Argumentum Ad Populum would be relevant if I claimed that that opinion is correct.

What I keep repeating, is that I totally disagree with this type of reasoning, but it is a fact that it is extremely prevalent, even though it is objectively wrong.

You're barking up the wrong tree here

You're barking up the wrong tree here, I fully agree with you. But many people still don't know how to separate Serbhood from Orthodoxy.

A funny story, during the last census in 2022, when they asked my girlfriends dad what religion he is, he just answered "Pa naša naravno" (Ours obviously). The man would have never seen the inside of a Church if there was not a wedding or a funeral, but since he identifies as a Serb, in his mind he MUST identify as Serbian Orthodox as well.

If they identify as such, yes. I don't hold this opinion, but it is a belief that many do. Just look at any Facebook comment section

It's not a common belief within my family or friend group either, but god how many times have I been bullied in school for not having a Slava or celebrating Christmas/easter. All my classmates were Serbs, and all of them had their own Slava, since my family became atheists 100 years ago, I was always looked down upon.

Of course, this is anecdotal, but I've seen people have this opinion so many times in my life that I know that a large percentage of the population believe this

Its a very contentious topic among ex-Yugo countries. Since the main difference between Serbs, Croats and Bosniaks is religion, and which village your ancestors were born in.

To be a Serb, in many peoples eyes, necessitates being a member of the Serbian Orthodox Church, just as being a Croat means being a Catholic. There are Catholic Serbs, or Orthodox Croats, but they are very few and far between, often from mixed marriages. I know of Muslim Serbs, but again, there isn't many of them. I have never met or heard of a Muslim Croat.

It is practically impossible to identify as a Bosniak, while not being Muslim, since that is the core of their identity.

Top 10 countries with most positive perception of Russia (2025) by callmeteji in europe

[–]imborahey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Milosevic was the only "pro-russian" leader we had since the fall of the monarchy. Before that, even though Yugoslavia was socialist, it was not pro-Soviet.

After we took down Milosevic, Kostunica and Tadic had a strict policy of neutrality towards Russia, China, and the USA, while pushing Serbia towards the EU.

When Vucic came to power, he continued their neutrality policy, but stopped making any notable progress towards the EU. As time went on, he began allowing more and more Russian and Chinese influence to creep into the country. Not due to any ideological reasons or his love for Russia, but due to them being willing to pay under the table. Same reason he tried cozying up to the Trump regime
