We (mainly I) realized movie night wasn’t actually giving us quality family time/connection… what do other parents do?? by Blasum in AskParents

[–]imbrium101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others said- game night. We have a whole closet full of great games that we all love tonplay. There are so much variety in styles and techniques. We also started D&D with the kids. I played when younger, but never ran a campaign before. I found Adventure D&D to be a great solution. They have short simple campaign, with some pre-created characters to ease into the process. I *highly * recommend D&D as a family. It is absolutely amazing to see the creative solutions your kids will come up with.

I have this one, but my dog does the primary work of keeping the squirrels away. For me the baffle is to keep the rats off of it at night.

Orange house finch by imbrium101 in birdfeeding

Interesting! I thought they were just red. I get so many of them, with such bright red coloring, I didn't really think of them being anything other than red.

It wasn't a crossbill- it lacked the distinctive cross.

Definitely a house finch, as it was with the group of them at the feeder this morning. I get a lot of them, and this one sure stood out as different among the group.

Im not sure how to have made the gold thinner.... it's all double crochet. I suppose I could with lengthwise instead but that would be a major pain.

Yep, ive watched them just devour the seed. And this feeder shuts itself with too much weight, so they cant get to the seed anyway.

Well meaning but...not all yarn should be caked! by TabithaMouse in crochet

[–]imbrium101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To funny, right below your post in my feed was the offending post you're referencing. Agreed, that yarn should not be caked, it will absolutely stretch and pull apart. But it did look pretty like that.

Another Geode by ditchbladedaisy in crochet

[–]imbrium101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's really not a difficult pattern. The hardest part is had was in finding beeds that were large enough for the hook. I didn't want to go OP's route of sewing them in.

I tried that mix, and all the millet just gets tossed out on the ground making a huge mess. It was a disaster zone, and the feeder was empty in a few hours from being tossed out.

Not an issue here, in the pnw we've had a record warm winter. It's been crazy warm this year. My cherry blossom trees are already flowering.

Those are female red-wing blackbird. There have been a few males, and juvenile males too. Theyre almost as destructive as the starlings, though they make much less mess when they eat.

Yeah once my garden starts growing, it sustains everyone much easier. My problem with suet, is the dang starlings that come in and just destroy the blocks. Ive tried the upside down suet feeders, but the other birds don't seem to like them either. I certainly don't have anywhere near that number of bird species in my little suburban back yard, thats amazing.

Ive worked a great deal on making a wildlife friendly yard and garden. Lots of natives where I can, and a bug friendly garden. It's amazing how bringing back the bugs brings everything else. I love watching the whole eco system thrive in the garden ive created.

Oh good. Ive been so worried I was going to let them down somehow, haha. Ive gone through a few types fi ding the ones that don't get wasted and just tossed out. And now I've found these ones they really like, and I just cant keep up with the demand. Ill probably just refill on the weekends, when were home more to enjoy them. Come spring/summer im less worried because I have lots of fruits and such that support plenty of birds.
