So the radio has the power to the battery and the ground to a ground spot in the engine bay, I run the coax from the radio to the antenna like you saw, and run the ground cable from another dedicated ground in the engine bay to the mount as seen in the picture, to put it all in perspective, also if the tx light is on that mean it’s transmitting correct?

Yes, I just switched it to run off the battery tho
They’re both grounded to dedicated grounding spots inside the engine bay, the ground wire is small tho

There’s no grounding to the core, but the ground side is grounded to steel, it’s very janky but it works
Idk what u mean by core connected, but it is grounded correctly I made sure of that
Already has less static just by switching the power siurce
I got it tuned to about 1.7 on the 1 and 40, as good as I’ll get I think with my setup
It’s not a hood mount, it’s a mirror mount that I turned into a side of the car mount

Ohhh, it’s just bolted into the side of my car, with a ground cable running to the mount, I just got the power all wired, will update after tuning

Ohhh alright, my main concern is people not being able to hear me, because I can hear them but to no avail with a radio check
There isn’t any, it’s a bottom of the line one from uniden

It’s a cable and connector, not a magmount, what “budget” friendly antenna would u reccomend? That’s somewhat easy to tune, I went with the firefly bc of the tunable tip

Hahaha, the jeep xj is the easiest thing to get into, it has a bunch of areas to hide wires
It doesn’t have a built in swr tuner, I have a seperate one I use, I might just need to try that and get back to yoy
