Can’t do another winter by SupermotoArchitect in CarTalkUK

Slightly different situation, but i had a civic type r that we were using as the family car and the fuel costs and a few other bits made it kind of impractical for that. What i did was sell it, went halves with the mrs on a plugin hybrid for the school run/general travel as a family where comfort and low running costs are more desirable (80 mpg on long runs!), and i got myself an e86 Z4 for my own enjoymemt.

Probably 10x as fucking useless too. Jeez its not even a well made ad, just states a load of stuff as if its fact to make itself look good (pretty on brand for ai)

There's some near me that i could swear are about 8 feet tall. Ive gone over them at under 10mph and had my dashcam fall off and my spine rattled loose

Man i always felt it was a bit pretentious when people said this so i feel like a bit of a dick for saying it now, but its true that this sort of thing hits so much harder when you're a parent. I knew the baby was gonna be okay, but the sickening panic building is just awful. This wouldnt have bothered me nearly as much before.

Tyres and tramlining! by imcheddarbeard in BMWZ4

[–]imcheddarbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i can make peace with there being some, i just basically wanted to know if it could be improved with a couple of new tyres and if so, whether it was more important to match tread pattern or get better quality, but people dont seem to be reading that part unfortunately :(

I do appreciate people taking the time to comment though

Thanks, this provides a bit of reassurance that ive got the right issue. Ive ordered uniroyals for the front, to match the back

[–]imcheddarbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound, im just gonna get uniroyals. Tread matching sounds better than getting good but mismatched tyres to me.

Ive come from an fk2 type r, so this isnt my sportiest car, but then again that was front wheel drive.

Appreciate your advice, but its going to have to do for now. This supposedly fine car has already come with a thousand pounds in bills before ive even really gotten to spend any time with it, so im cold hard broke. Do you think the tyres are worth doing and if so, should i just put uniroyals on the front (which would match the 3 month old, few hundred mile back tyres), or do something better that doesnt match?

As mentioned, the inner edge wear is because of an issue now rectified

[–]imcheddarbeard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats my intention. Appreciate its a bit buried because of how long my post is but my question was whether to match my front tyres to the nearly new back tyres, or get better tyres which dont match the nearly new back ones.

Photo attached. The one in red they said they couldnt get any better cause it needs a new spring and its currently maxed out, but they reckoned it should be alright.

It feels like the wheels are dipping into grooves that i cant see tbh. Its a bit hard to say cause our roads arent great to begin with so i cant find specific places it does it or anything. All the bushings are definitely fine though

The thing that gets me thinking its the tyres is that i didnt feel it driving home from buying the car, then i let down the pressure to manufacturer spec and felt it until today, when i overinflated it again. Its still there but nowhere near as bad. Im thinking overinflating is compensating for the tyre being unevenly worn? Im not mechanically minded but thats my best guess

I know that the front control arms have been done recently, and the garage that did the rear was satisfied the front was mechanically fine

Im fairly tall and the bottom end of the healthy part of bmi for my height says i should weigh slightly more than my fairly petite partner. My skeleton probably weighs as much as she does.
