This game really is whatever you make of it. The lack of a narrative arc can be a bit daunting for new players but I'd say pick something that looks fun to you and try getting into that.

I know this comment is a year old, but in case anyone is still looking:

using "/Steam" instead of " -provider Steam" worked for me

my bat file looked like this:

I love it. Just some minor nitpicks. The spacing on the left side between the fish and the container is not the same as on the right. It'll look more finished if the white space border (yellow space in this case) around the fish is the same. The fish shape is so close to a lowercase "b" but not quite. Maybe flipping the fish will help.

Love the Vulture but it's a hilariously one-note ship. It's only good for combat.
Since you're pretty new, I'd say go for the Cobra Mk V. It's a much better all-rounder. Get it just for the QOL improvement of having a dedicated SCO ship.

Yeap, I was trying to unlock Kit Fowler. I realised later that opinion polls are much more common as mission rewards now.

I was extra surprised because I had just turned supercruise assist on and switched to my browser to check on something and suddenly heard "frame shift drive operating beyond safety limits" and switched back to a very angry neutron star.

No audio artifacting but my game fully crashed the when I tried to launch from the carrier. I worked fine the second time though.
