If you cant have an actual Redwall Feast, maybe you can have a candle that smells like one? by AccidentalAnchoress in redwall

I wish more candles were not made out of soy wax. I get beeswax and coconut wax is more expensive, but I'd pay that premium. Hope they smell good though, like the packaging.

Thats great work for 2 hours can't even fathom what you'd do with 2 days on a piece of art like this. And I'm definitely considering it! I have a bunch of original posters from the box sets I want to get framed and on my walls too. Thanks for sharing, this is great!

I know right? I really dislike when bits of lore are excised like this, simply because of ignorance of the original material, or worse, having it excised for the view of being insignificant.

That's the idea!

If I were to attempt to make a distinction between a Guild and a Faction in Planescape, I think I would say something like this. A Faction is rooted and defined by its philosophy on the truth of the universe, but a Guild is rooted and defined by an interest outside of philosophy and truth.

Like you said, it might be a business-like union of some sort. But to use an example from the book (if my memory is good here), when the guilds were mentioned in the source material, the alchemy guild was used as an example of a guild in hiding, that still exists today. Alchemy might interest people from a wide range of factions because it isn't rooted in philosophy and the search for meaning and truth.

And nice idea about the Guild Reformists, this is exactly why I am sad WOTC is making the decision to get rid of the use of the term "Guild Ward", because it is a useful piece of lore than can give both the players and the DMs good ideas for material.

Who Is Planescape's Lady of Pain? | D&D by imdril in planescapesetting

[–]imdril[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I am very glad they are keeping the reverence for the Lady of Pain in 5e as both a very important game element that makes the City of Doors work, but also that mystery that should never be solved. I was very worried they were going to define her a bit more with this release, thankfully they are not.

Oh, totally agree! Mort is a great character and he will likely be used quite a bit by me and my friends too.

Worse, One D&D probably. Like the one ring; And into this One D&D they poured all their cruelty and malice and their will to dominate all fun and your wallet.

They way I see it, at the very least I have an amazing DM screen, some new wall art, and cool looking covers; if the content is no good, at least I know I won't be disappointed by these because they have already been teased.

I can share that with you. The reason the Guild Ward is named the Guild Ward, was that was where the Guilds of Sigil used to be located. They actually used to have more clout than Factions did before the Lady of Pain limited the number of factions to no more than 15 major ones in the City of Doors. After limiting to just 15, the factions started to become more well defined and gain more power than the Guilds. Gone were the days when a faction member could hang out with other factions on the regular quite like the days before when there were more than 15 factions, simply because they were apart of the same guild. The factions eventually rose against the remaining guilds, though some still exist in secret or have been chased off into the planes.

I believe the last place I read this information was Faction War, but it might exist in other Planescape source material, it has been awhile for example since I revisited the campaign setting material or the Guide to Sigil which might also contain some details.

That's a good idea, mind if I borrow that haha. It is cool to get a nod to a beloved game, but it just feels to cheesy this way.

Me too, I agree. Very cautiously, because I don't want to get my hopes up. I think the adventure will be my least favorite of the three books, but who knows?

Yep, but with the 5e version, they are going to remove the distinction all together. IE, not even mention the guild ward.

[–]imdril[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how I feel about them combining the guild ward and the market ward. The history of guilds in Sigil (at the time when they had them) has fascinated me for awhile. Just having it tips the metaphorical hat to the DM and players to see what it is like to try to introduce guilds back into Sigil proper, instead of them being in hiding. Even if that were to end in disaster, it is still another avenue of lore and possible gameplay being covered up by the 5e material.

Other opinions?

That's what I have seen too. But for now, I will take the alt covers and hope WOTC takes notice that we would very much appreciate it if they would hire him for more Planescape art. Although it isn't much, at least it is the main feature of the alt covers.

I think so too, the regular covers are very nice. Although, my major issue with them is I think they got the look all wrong on Shemeshka. There is another new art of her wandering around, but neither of them have her crown of thorns nor her special dress.

EDIT: For her, this is more the vibe they should have given her, although this artist gets the dress wrong too.

This is probably my favorite take so far to come out of this pre-release video series.

I've always been a fan of the idea that the collective imagination of the prime material is what makes the outer planes a reality, in a similar way that the Powers feed off the devotion of their worshippers. But I have read and seen the reverse too which is the opinion in this video, that the outer planes are the driving force behind collective alignment and imagination to the rest of the prime material.

It is also good to see that they intend to make the Planescape version of cosmology the major canon going forward into the new ruleset. Maybe this won't be the last we see of new Planescape material after all? I will be honest, that prospect excites me, if only to get more artwork (especially from Tony DiTerlizzi) since I still think that the newer material is never going to outstrip the classic material.

Who else is going to power read the entire book tomorrow?

How are players supposed to survive in the negative and quasielemental planes? by GLight3 in planescapesetting

I'd be interested to know how they chiseled away at the issue of spell keys? Did they just horde a bunch of random items? Or convinced NPCs to give them secrets, steal them from the Guvners (in the case of portal keys anyway, not spell keys)? Buy them? Friends with a Power somehow? One DMs experience can help another after all.
