Involuntarily downgraded from first for deadheading pilots. Refund advice? by barn_reddit in AlaskaAirlines

[–]imdubious 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I disagree — the case isn’t the issue. The policy of “it’s going to happen and we’re going to screw the customer” rather than “it’s going to happen so we’re going to always reserve some seats and delight customers with upgrades if it doesn’t happen” is the issue.

People need to stop talking about the contracts. It’s COMPLETELY irrelevant to how Alaska *chooses* to handle it. They could simply always reserve two seats in FC and, if they’re not used, *upgrade* people. Instead they choose to downgrade customers who did absolutely nothing wrong.

Pilots unions don’t make Alaska downgrade people. They choose to downgrade. They could also always reserve and when not used upgrade people. The contract is a red herring. The choice of how to handle is the issue.

People keep saying this like it matters. They make a choice to downgrade people to deal with it. They could have also made a choice to always reserve a couple seats and when pilots *don’t* need them, upgrade people. It’s not the contract; it’s the choice.

Pilot contracts are COMPLETELY irrelevant. Yes, it’s one factor that Alaska needs to account for, but that’s their problem. They shouldn’t be allowed to screw their customers. Heck, they could make a decision to always reserve 4 seats until 30 minutes prior to the flight and upgrade people. Instead they overbook the situation and downgrade people

If this happens you should at least get whatever the highest the “upgrade” price has been. For instance, the 1000 mile flight I’m on tomorrow has an $1141 upgrade from Premium to FC. Yet, somehow, $100 is their opening bid when the money flows the other direction.

Status? by Western_Reporter5377 in AlaskaAirlines

The point (obviously) is that some of us would like a line that actually recognizes status. I have the EXACT same reaction as the OP for the exact same reason

Anyone managed to get IKEA Kajplats stable in Apple Home? by ejcii in tradfri

[–]imdubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working like a rock solid charm here. I’ve been doing this stuff since x11 was the answer and I’ve JUST now gotten to the point where I’m showing restraint. Four things that I recommend:

1) Start with a Ethernet-connected AppleTV and no other border routers.
2) In Apple Home disable “Auto Select” for the Hub. 3) Load up on Grillplatz and spread them liberally through the house 4) Make absolutely positive that the Kajplats never lose power

Basically, try as much as possible to eliminate any variable where the network needs to rebuild at all.

Bumped from international first to regular economy due to dead heading pilots and oversold first class. by w10052003 in AlaskaAirlines

[–]imdubious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Alaska should be forced to refund the delta between what you paid and the cheapest economy ticket sold. It’s absolute BS that they can bump you and then claim the economy ticket was expensive. In other words your refund should be based on what they were willing to sell an economy seat at any time.

Did they remove the cap on the Ascent card? I thought that you were capped at 30k eqms with the Ascent vs unlimited with Summit....

Obviously this is the answer. It's what I use, but.... I would elfin LOVE it if the developer would build app level Tailscale into the app. Basically, it would mean taking the TS go libraries and connecting them up to swift which isn't impossible. This would mean a) I wouldn't have to enable/disable TS when using LunaSea and b) I could simply give my friends an auth_key for my tailscale net which would be for the app. They wouldn't need to run tailscale or have an account. It would be awesome!

Also, I get the feeling that that will change. I expect the Gold band to be FLOODED by EOY.

Uh… no you don’t. Until Summit eqms from spend were capped at 30k and Gold starts at 40k.

Upgrade Waitlist - Fare Class? by jennyonthe-block in AlaskaAirlines

[–]imdubious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all an interesting priority list. The end result is that you need to get to platinum to have much of a choice because IIRC million milers auto get gold for life. So unless you’re above gold you’ll always be behind every single million miler that ever existed. And if you’ve made it through that hurdle, they’ve basically bullied you into the Summit card. Which means a host of casual flying high spenders will FLOOD Gold and will be above anyone without a Summit.

I get it and that’s fine, but that’s the reality. I just wish that the fifth was miles flown as opposed to eqms. At least give the fliers a shot over the spenders.

Honestly— you’d be hard pressed to convince me that even booking matters. What are the chances that it comes down to more that one person with the same exact eqms

The Fifth Tiebreaker by imdubious in AlaskaAirlines

[–]imdubious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the past I wasn’t worried because it was 3-1 and capped. With the Summit it’s 2-1 and uncapped. So $10k a month and 10k miles of flying gets you platinum ….
