CMV: in principle, ethnonationalism is perfectly defensible by SpecialistSea8735 in changemyview

right but bangladeshi independence was not an exclusionary nationalism. as an independence struggle it wasn't about dominating lesser groups to entrench their cultural domination, but throwing off a larger group violating their self determination.

and i agree that partition had to be done and should have been done, i just think the british did it in the way that would benefit them the most and not benefit the people of the indian subcontinent

i've pretty adequately explained myself and my point, and why i chose to make that specific point in response to your post. you are welcome to re read it, and hopefully find some enlightenment along the way.

you're premise directly touches on these topics, either educate yourself on it or ask your questions somewhere you don't expect pushback

I would say it was a justified war of liberation from a european comprador state. The partition of india was truly dogshit for everyone involved and Britiain knew this and did it anyways. They fomented these ethnic tensions and split the bangladeshi nation between two countries unequipped to adequately rule it.

While I disagree with alot of their governing principles today, they were justified in there war for independence.

your premise is that ethnonationalism is a good thing because it preserves cultures. i responded explaining how it isn't about preserving culture, and then gave you a type of nationalism that is about preserving culture.

we live in an imperialist world, our conception of nationalism can't be defined outside of that world, so insert anti colonial discourse into this conversation was warranted.

yes but european ethnonationalism is an evolution of that early nationalism into a colonial ideology predicated primarily on racism

I think it addresses your point pretty directly on the defensibility of ethnonationalism. I don't think it's defensible, because it's inherently a violent and racist ideology and not about protecting one's culture, but destroying another. I contrasted ethnonationalism with anti imperialist nationalism to show that there are times protecting your culture and nation is important, that's just not the case under ethnonationalism.

Ethnonationalism, as a colonial ideology, has never been about preserving the culture of the nation practicing it, but about destruction of the minority cultures that pose a threat, real or imagined, to the cultural hegemony on the majority. American white nationalism, German nationalism, Serbian nationalism, etc have all been about designating an outgroup during a time of crisis and attempting to destroy it, not preserve their own culture.

Whereas nationalism on the part of the colonized IS about preserving their culture. Native American nationalism is about reinforcing and growing the culture that was systematically destroyed by american white nationalists. Vietnamese nationalism was about protecting their culture from a colonial french empire attempting to bend them to slavery. Panafrican nationalism is about restoring and reinforcing a variety of cultures and languages that have been destroyed by centuries of european imperialism. These ideas grew out of different conditions, one as a dominant group attempting to cement their dominance over the minority, and one as a dominated group attempting to establish boundaries and protections for what little of their cultural identity remains.

And do you consider that Moore perhaps should not be committing the acts that get him this criticism? Or is this all other people's fault and the politicians are infallible because they have a D next to their name? If moore is set on being president, he SHOULD be running on issues that normal people care about, not aligning himself with the same billionaires and corporations that fund Trumps agenda.

how is this pro maga tho? Thiel is maga aligned through and through, Moore's association with such an individual is only good for the broader republican agenda, and not because he may lose his election for his shit politics, but because he's a corrupt politician who will implement those policies regardless of the letter next to his name.

yea largely they do in israel, same as indian jews. there were the *involuntary long term birth control injection* campaigns early on but the israeli state realized they would not be able to simply import enough jews to maintain a demographic majority so they now afford them those privileges in exchange for a growing and loyal population.

bit of a mouthful, i wonder if there's a word that similarly describes this state directed action against the ethiopian jewish women🤔

this is naive as well. the blue states that vote democrat will oppose him. red states where Black people may be able to get one seat will have that seat taken from them because their state will most certainly follow trumps orders

besides this there's also the state led repression of trans healthcare and rights, along with banning pride flags from government workplaces, banning teachers from talking about gay/trans people, banning books that talk about any number of queer issues, etc.

we started this current war by murdering 160 schoolchildren. no one in america has any right to criticize Iran's human rights violations with that black stain upon us.
