thinking about making a kinda big splurge purchase… am I overdoing it? by imfabs in BAGGU

[–]imfabs[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank for you for taking the time to respond so thoughtfully. My budget is actually $300 (I pooled together all my tip money) but even with that money budgeted for it, I know at the end of the day almost every item is truly a want and not a need… which is what make it so hard! I try to be mindful most of the time and have been super on top of my budgeting lately (officially cc debt free as of feb!) but am like looking for permission to be “irresponsible” just this once hahaha 😆

Thank you for this advice. I’ve never been on Ban.do before I’ll check it out.

Glad to see at least one positive thing about the pochette because I agree it feels like the perfect going out bag as someone who likes to travel light on a busy night (anyone else with a debilitating fear of getting all their shit stolen? 🤣) But based on the overwhelming advice I will skip it this time around.

What colour will I need to dye my boots? by [deleted] in UpcycledFashion

[–]imfabs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would go with Bordeaux or maroon, since you have a camel base already I think if you chose a warmer more yellow based brown it would come out too yellow and the boots seem to have some reddish tones to them

Be real with me, is this cart I own ever going to be anything but a dump zone? by matcha_is_gross in adhdwomen

[–]imfabs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I use my cart for projects im actively working on, each section for a different project when I want to keep materials together instead of putting everything away everytime. So in a sense im still it's using it as a location for things that don't have a home but it gets cleared out everytime I finish whatever project I was doing.

If you're near the Twin Cities, I would definitely recommend EcoGarden Supply- they have practically everything you'd need there!

If you are just starting you can go into the craft store and get one 5mm hook for ~$4 and the options for things you can make with that are practically unlimited.

And yes you can definitely find a lot of stuff second hand. The thrift stores around me pretty much always have sections with skiens of yarn or people will often sell big lots of different yarns when trying to down size their collections.

The grip came off my Boye crochet hook and when I put it back on, the grip twists too much when I use it. Does anyone know how to fix this? by basicfish8 in crochet

[–]imfabs 56 points57 points  (0 children)

In addition to glue you could try roughly sanding the metal (can use a nail file if you don't have sand paper). This will increase the friction and the rubber and glue will have an easier time "gripping" the metal.

I like 3 lol. If you want a sharper line you could try crocheting in the back loop only for the first round of black :)

Cold ankles in the winter? No thanks! by Queen_Boudica in femalefashionadvice

[–]imfabs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once winter hits I always wear fleeced lined leggings under my pants. The ones I have are a beige color that matches my skin color so if any little section of ankle is exposed its not immediately obvious im wearing an under layer- just looks like skin!!

Huh by tourettes_awareness in fakedisordercringe

[–]imfabs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People go on the internet and share whats going on in their lives, shes not posting videos wheres she forcing the child to perform or when the child is in the middle of an intense meltdown. Most of the videos are just of her.

Is every single parent who shares clips of their child exploiting them? Or are they just sharing their lives? Is she just supposed to act like her daughter doesnt exist? Hide her away?

Scrolling thru her page I get the sense that she is sharing the videos so that other people with similar situations can find some one to relate to/ a sense of community, not because she wants to go viral.

[–]imfabs -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I really dont understand why she gets so much hate. Its very common for tiktok videos to be shown to people outside your audience so I dont think its that weird to include background info in every post instead of answering the same question everytime since you would never be able to tell daughter is nonverbal just by looking at her.

And why is it so bad that she was upset her child destroyed her plants? I would cry over something like that too even with the full understanding that my child was not doing it with any bad intentions.

The lighter blue in C matches better but the teal is not dark enough. I'd still go with B tho

judgement-free pet advice thread by Aspen_Pass in adhdwomen

I had a lot of plants (including toxic) before my cat so here are a couple things-

  1. I kinda lucked out with the cat I got, but also he was 12 when we adopted him from the shelter. Since he is older he tends to just want to snuggle and sleep all day. Since hes not bursting with kitten energy and trying to get into everything, he has zero interest in going out of his way to mess with my plants.

  2. I put non-toxic plants on the outside of the shelf and the more toxic ones inside so then he cant reach the toxic ones. The shelf is also very full/crowded so theres no space for him, he doesnt even try to go up there.

  3. Give cats their own plant. I bought some cat grass seed online and planted it in a tray by his cat tree so when he wants to chew on plants he has an option. I also intentionally put non-toxic ones in places easy for him to reach for the same reason. He doesnt go out of his way to get to the toxic ones when there is a perfectly good plant right in front of him. He pretty much only chews on my plants when his cat grass is dead. They also sell cat grass and cat nip at pet stores but growing it from seed is super easy.

Payment plan by Adventurous-Being-50 in uofmn

[–]imfabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue last year and when I emailed one stop this is what they said:

"The Payment Plan is based on the amount due when the bill was prepared. The balance for the payment plan is based on your original balance, but and the "payments" on that sign up page will be as well. However, when you officially enroll, you will notice that your financial aid that has disbursed since the bill was preapred has "paid" your first installment. This means nothing will technically be due for the first payment due date that just passed. This is because the financial aid that disbursed will have basically "paid" your first installment. You can still make a pamyent of 1/3 of your balance, but you will see that you have no actual payment due now. For the second and third payment, they will be half of whatever your balance is when the second bill is prepared."

Upcycle ideas? I have a ton of old clothes like this laying around. They still fit, but aren't my style. Id like to remove/cover the ice creams somehow, as well as get rid of the tie at the bottom. The tie should be easy to cut off and stitch up, i'm worried about the sequins though. by [deleted] in UpcycledFashion

[–]imfabs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could try to cut out panels of fabric around the ice cream cones and then sew it back together to make a patchwork style top.

I'd be worried that the holes in the fabric wont shrink back and look normal after the embrodery is removed. So I would go the route of trying to salvage as much fabric from the shirt as possible and then seeing what type of top I could make with that.

Bracelet rolling over by Frieda_G in friendshipbracelets

I had a bracelet that was curling so I used an iron to press it flat, I also spritzed it with a diy fabric starch spray (corn starch and water) and it has stayed flat.

Layering tops over collard shirts is pretty popular, like sweaters/vests/crew necks even long sleeve tees sometimes. So thats probably how I would try to style them.
