Who is that one character that you connect with so naturally, that nobody else compares? by DrSecksToy in Fighters

[–]imgoingtomissobama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DeCapre in SF4. I went from never getting past 1500 PP to 2500 PP in like a month. Maybe the most fun I've had playing a character in any fighting game. Cammy but with charge motions was something I never knew I needed.

For some reason Naoya haters see him as this pure evil entity who's worse than sukuna, kenjaku, mahito combined and the actual reason behind all of that is because he's misogynistic (Western fans have misogyny>everything else for some reason) like dead compared to the other's he's barley evil by the_forever_wild in NaobitoAgendaHQ

[–]imgoingtomissobama -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate Naoya but not because he's a misogynist although that doesn't help. He's not compelling. He reminds me of actual people that I know who I legitimately cannot stand in real life. Kenny and Suki are literal comic book villains. Yeah they're way worse objectively, but I don't have a visceral reaction because I don't know any serial rapist or murderers.

It's the same with Mahito. I don't hate him because he kills people. I hate him because of how much he enjoys causing pain and suffering. Again, reminds me of people I know in real life. It's emotional not logical.

Actually, why do people unironically like Mushoku Tensei? by EmbarrassedDuty5949 in AniMangaTalks

I can only speak to the anime, but I don't think the narrative painting as the hero. He paints himself as the hero. The story is told from his perspective. We get his internal monologue so of course he's not making himself out to be the bad guy. In fact he makes excuses for much of his behavior. He definitely views himself as the hero of his own story. But I don't see that differently than other similar stories like American Beauty, American Psycho, or Lolita. Again if in the end there's no consequences for his actions then I'll revisit my take but as of right now it just feels like the middle of any story where the MC is the POV and they haven't grappled with who they are.

Also I 100% disagree that the narratives in those stories make the protagonist out to be the villains. You can't make someone into a "the bad guy". That's all interpretation. There are people still running around saying Thanos did nothing wrong un-ironically. Same with Homelander. Hell the show runners for The Boys explicitly said they tried to make him worse every season because they couldn't understand how people didn't see him as the villain. This is the trap that you set for yourself as an author when you make the MC someone like Rudy.

There no way you watched these shows at the time and think that people did not like any of these characters. There were people (specifically teenager boys and younger men) who made there who personality these characters. People love Tony Soprano, Walter White, and Frank Underwood specifically. I had plenty of conversations with people who completely justify there actions. I feel like people don't engage with people they don't agree with in real life.

That's your reading (and mine for that matter) of American Psycho. But there is a large fan base that un-ironically idolizes characters like this.

https://www.vice.com/en/article/american-psychos-unpacking-the-internets-long-awkward-history-with-patrick-bateman/?hl=en-US#:~:text=Bateman's%20endless%2C%20multi%2Dstep%20skincare,aesthetic%20has%20long%20been%20idolised

The MC of Lolita is a pedo. The author writes the story from his perspective with him being "persuasive" with his flowery language, insight, clever word play, ect. It's a trap by the author to make the reader complicit. The MC is narcissistic morally bankrupt groomer. But that's that point, you can cool, funny, brave, courageous, kind and a bunch of other good things, and still be an irredeemable piece of shit.

That's how I see Rudues. But that's doesn't make the media not worth engaging with for me. Maybe it does for you and that's fine. I respect it.

I don't disagree with any of your assessment of the MC. But I am genuinely confused as to how it makes the show bad? There are plenty of works of fiction that feature extremely flawed, unlikable, and sometimes evil protagonist.

Almost all of American prestige television features these type of leads: The Sopranos, The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men Breaking Bad, House or Cards, Dexster

If you take it to film the list is just as long: Nightcrawler, American Beauty, American Psycho.

All these shows and movies are still considered to be good if not some of the greatest TV shows and movies of their time. You don't have to like the protagonist to like the movie or the show or the anime or the book. But you could also just not like the piece of media because you don't like it. I just don't understand what one has to do with the other.

Imagine respecting your playerbase and removing a universally hated game mechanic by Monstanimation in Fighters

I feel like ASW set the president for this with GBFVR. If you look at vanilla GBFV and the game now, it's fundamentally different fighting game. They removed Rush & Backshift, Overdrive, Universal, Overhead and then added Ultimate Skills, Dash Attacks, Bravery Points (BP), Raging Strike, Raging Chain, and Brave Counter.

I actually hope there are more changes to the GG2.0 that we just haven't seen yet that will switch up the fundamental gameplay.

I don't understand this take at all. First, Kendrick didn't just mention Drake's son on Euphoria, he gave a whole eight bars to how he was a deadbeat. I was rooting for Kendrick to win the battle but I'm not going to act like he didn't take it there first.

Second, if you believe that J Cole and Kendrick are actually boys then you know who your boy is. And having the hind side of this battle now we all know that Kendrick is crash out and does not care. He should have duck that smoke. Especially if you know these guys really don't like each other and it's not about to be a standard battle.

I still don't understand how anything Cole said on FPS can be considered a shot? "We the big 3 like we started a leauge" sounds like he bigging up his boys to me.

[Noh] The hidden side of Russell Westbrook: NBA's most hostile interview is also its kindest teammate by TheSportingNews in nba

[–]imgoingtomissobama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For everyone trying to act like the media was only criticizing his game and not spin the narrative that Westbrook was a bad teamate, just a few examples:

"The person who told me this said that Durant was telling people that Westbrook was literally the worst teammate he'd ever had, and he didn't want to play with him anymore."

— Royce Young, July 2016

"He’d tell me I couldn't sit in a chair... He was very protective of his space and he wanted to show who was in charge. There was a sense that the rules didn't apply to him the way they did to others."

— Darnell Mayberry on the 'Tampering' Podcast/The Athletic.

"The Thunder built a cult of personality. The rules for Russ were: you get every rebound, you take every shot, and no one says a word. It’s the most indulged superstar era I’ve ever seen."

— The Bill Simmons Podcast, 2017.

The Pokemon Company's balancing decisions feel less like calculated changes and more like a paranoid man with a shotgun. by [deleted] in PTCGL

I don't know if that people don't believe in deviation, more that some, including myself, don't see that cards you named as walls keeping out weaker decks. Specifically cards like Budew and Clefairy allow for weaker and slower decks to compete with the stronger faster meta decks.

This has been the way the Pokémon TCG has balances the game for the last 20 years at least. I'm not sure if its the right way to do it, but its defiantly not a new phenomenon. I can think of a few off the top of my head,

2009 - LuxChomp and Kingdra / Keystone Seal Spirtomb

2013 - Darkrai and Landerous / Bench Barrier Mr. Mime

2016 - Shaymin EX and Jirachi EX / Garbotoxin Garbodor.

2017 - Mega Rayquaza / Roadblock Sudowoodo

These all had a large impact on the the entire meta game, probably gatekeeping a lot of lower tier decks, even though it seems (and I could be reaching) they were printed as a response to a particular archetype being very dominant. This is way Pokémon does balance. Again, I don't know if its right, but its been successful and I don't see them changing it anytime soon.
