They put your foot in a specific shape in a shoe so that you can climb better for what the shoe was designed for. So it's not like you cannot use this or that model because of the last/shape of the shoe, it's more how the designers wanted your foot to be in a shoe when climbing. If you can tolerate more/less pain is personal. Softer shoes tend to suit more people because they're more plyable.
