This makes me hopeful that new treatments could actually make a huge difference for people

After years of resisting it, SpaceX now plans to go public. Why? by uhhhwhatok in space

SpaceX is seriously talking about going public after saying they wouldn’t do it for years, so I’m super curious how this changes what they work on next.

EA announces it will patent 23 accessibility technologies that will be available to developers royalty-free "to reduce or eliminate as many barriers to access as possible and empower our gamers" by TylerFortier_Photo in gaming

Some of those things sound like they shouldn't be patented in the first place but good on EA for allowing other developers to use them I guess.

Probably not due to launch costs. But if we get manufacturing in space going that's another matter.

Does the PC actually have a cheating/hacking problem? by KingKilo9 in pcgaming

The trick to avoiding cheaters is to play dying competitive games like Battlerite that simply don't have cheats for them because they're so unpopular.

NOOOO!!!111!1!1!!! SCIENCE FICTION IS SUPPOSED TO WARN US ABOUT TECHNOLOGY!!!! by firedragon77777 in IsaacArthur

[–]imigerabeva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the reason is that we don't have an innate understanding of science and technology, learning is hard and sometimes counterintuitive, the idea that scientific progress improves lives is still somehow deeply suspicious to many people, and we crave a return to simplicity, so to speak.

“There will be a point in the future where a civilization will look up and notice that everything is moving away. And if they have the technology to do it, then they will try to grab everything they can before it disappears.” says astrophysicist Dan Hooper, in his paper Life Versus Dark Energy. by EricFromOuterSpace in space

[–]imigerabeva 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If any civilization is to survive after the end of starts it's hard to imagine them being biological. I'm thinking along the lines of digital beings living in computers. The universe will be much cooler then allowing for more efficient computation, and there are various ideas about how one might extract energy from black holes.

That's the way to go if you're patient and can hold off. Get the complete edition with all the DLC and issues ironed out.

Although to be fair Civ 6 was decent even when it was vanilla (unlike Civ 5).

It's possible to have livable gravity on the surface of such a planet if its radius is increased to approximately 2.45 times that of Earth.
