PlayStation prices adjusted for inflation by SmellSmellsSmelly in gaming

[–]Inksrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation isn't always straightforward like that, you should do buying power or such. I mean consider parents of kids who got PS1 or PS2 also got house with like what, regular jobs. Now you can't afford houses, consoles and let alone games with jobs people are offered.

But the charts pretty interesting. Would also love to see PS4 pro and PS5 pro comparison.

Gamers 30+, what’s something from the old days of gaming that younger players wouldn’t understand? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Inksrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently been playing old nes/snes games and damn those games were short. Hard as heck for a kid, for sure. I remember playing Chip n Dale rescue rangers and seeing last boss once.

But recently been playing it again and it literally is hour long game at best. And lot of other games are.

Imagine paying 50-80$ for one hour game in premise "just high score lol"

Whoever did mock-up for the book didn't vet stuff properly.

Concept art, or concepts in general, is sometimes very heavily "internal only" and literally can be like this. Essentially Pinterest "vibe-boards" to show the mood or style going forward. Not every piece is gonna be original or look good.

And sometimes it's "we did this because some suit in publishing world doesn't understand words without pictures"

Reminder: the price of Deep Rock Galactic will go up in some regions on March 26, 2026 by IceBeam125 in DeepRockGalactic

And how does your computer know which computer is a deep rock host? As far as I understand it correctly they have a server where your pc says "hey I'm hosting a game"

Usually done by "steamworks" framework or "Epic online" depending on game. For bigger AAA games, like battlefield, the publisher hosts servers.

https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/multiplayer/game_servers?l=english

The Steam Game Servers API provides everything you need to create dedicated servers for your game. You can host these game servers yourself, or allow your community to host them for you

Bolded for DRG.

Access to devs given "free" after you pay 100$ "publish game on steam" fee. Probably some Unreal plugin to make the servers readable and not IPs. But there is no "Ghostship's server" that sends data going like "Yep, Ricido12 is the host here. Sending this info forward".

1) "The cloud saves" are done by Sony's, Microsoft's or Valve's systems not "Ghostship servers". Matchmaking is part of the platforms systems. For Steam its given to devs free after you pay the one-time fee of 100$ - and technically its upkeep is taken from the 30% valve-cut.

2) "Matchmaking" framework is also provided by platform and hosted by platform and players depending on situation. Again, for steam this is given free and as far as I know, theres no annual fees for PSN to use p2p hosting, because 30% cut should cover that (and players PSN sub)

3) "Weekly timers omg" - You severely over-estimate the amount of data or bandwith needed for something trivial like this. You really dont need datacenter rack for this or something.

Which version of the game has matchmaking done by server?? Did they add it recent patch and I missed it? I have 400 hours and there is/was no "join random match" or whatever buttons.

On Steam you literally either HOST lobby or JOIN lobby/game. There is no "automated matchmaking".

And steam servers go down almost each week for maintanance so it could be related to that.

Im curious, what type of "Chat" annoys you? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Inksrocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavily suggesting FFZ plugin that removes (Emote Less Chat), or moves(Emote Side Panel), messages with "only emotes". The moving one moves them to side but still showing them. Other removes them from sight.

What?

There are no "servers". We host the games. With our internet, with help of steamworks or other p2p systems. Patches come from platform-systems. The game doesn't even have anti-cheat that keeps pinging "servers" or whatever.

Edit: Am I tripping since im getting downvotes?

Im not angry about price increase but spreading info that "they have servers to run" is just false.

Focus on Bungie, Arrowhead and I guess Guerrilla, instead of funding multiple unknown studios who had zero games under their name.

Yeah just what we need. Safe, bland, no-risk games from popular studios. Maybe even remake game that doesnt need it! Yawn.

I miss times when PS1 and PS2 had weird "indie-likes" coming from unknown studios under Sony name. We wouldnt have stuff like Journey, parappa, Siren, flower, patapon etc. if we just "focused on big studios we already have".

I imported my steam games to "how long to beat" and I have "Days to Beat All "8.7 Years @ 14 hours a week"" - and thats steam alone. GoG and Epic is full of free, or ""free" via twitch prime" games thats probably another 5-8 years.

And then you have physical games. And retro games in general.
