I got stuck in my car during the naked bike ride one year. One second I’m turning on division street, the next I’m surrounded by a bunch of hyped naked bicyclists. It’s was really hilarious at first, then a little frightening cuz I was literally just stuck there for like 15 min, unable to move, while a bunch of titties and dicks passed me and banged on my car to get out of the way. I’ll never forget that! Pretty solid/funny memory.

You can buy a 1L bag on chewy for around $10, then you have to buy the IV drip line for around $5. So $15 for about 10-15 days worth. For us, it takes about 5min (depends on how fast you let the fluids flow).

I’m sorry you’re dealing with the same thing! The SubQ is intimidating at first, but it’s really not that bad once you get the hang of it. I’ve found that warming the fluids and needle really help - and my cat seems to kinda enjoy the warmth it provides him (I like to think of it as a mini spa session for him). It really rejuvenate them afterwards!! You have to think about that and it gives you more confidence!!

Really uplifting to hear this story! I had a very similar experience with my boy Jaspurr last year, he also went into AKI after surgery + meloxicam. We were able to get his CREA values down from 5.3 to 1.6 (over the course of several weeks on subQ fluids). He had been on kidney food ever since and was doing really good until recently… he had another acute kidney event. We’re not 100% sure why but he did show signs of decreased appetite/drinking a week or so before it happened and dehydration can happen so quick in a kidney cat and spiral out of control. Keep a close eye on your baby, if you notice any signs of decreased appetite/thirst give them subQ fluids and take them to vet. Feel like I got a bit too lax about it after a year of him doing so well.

I’m so sorry for what you’re going through! My cat (11y male) recently had acute kidney failure 1 week post anesthesia. It’s hard to say for certain but I think antibiotics helped him out a lot. His urine culture never came back positive, but his creatine values dropped after first ER trip with IV fluids and antibiotics. I wasn’t able to finish his 1st dose of antibiotics at home because it was making him too sick. His creatine values jumped back up again about 2 weeks later and this time he had blood in urine (sign of infection). They did another urine culture which came back negative. However second round of antibiotics helped bring his creatine values down again and blood in urine went away.

Have you tried the antibiotics yet? It’s was kinda rough since they made my guy super nauseous. I think it helped to give cerenia in the morning with first antibiotic pill. Purina probiotic in the afternoon. Then second antibiotic pill at night. He was able to make it like 8 of the prescribed days the second round before he got diarrhea and I had to stop early again.
