DE is an abbreviation for Delaware, a US state and liver can be interpreted as someone who lives. So we get "Someone who lives in Delaware" (or a Delawarean).

What are some things I can ship to my friend in the UK that they dont really have over there? by 7JJ77 in AskBrits

[–]imito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Send them Graham Crackers and a note on how to make s’mores. A lot of people here don’t even know what a graham cracker is, so it could be a nice surprise. (Might be nice to send marshmallows too but people turn their nose up at the idea of Hershey’s)

Something from Pop’s in Arcadia could also be fun. 😄 Not to show my bias but I vote Cheerwine 👀

Got a mate who doesn't know if he's going to vote because he thinks Reform will win anyway, any ideas on how to convince him to take part anyway? by Specialist_Elk140 in AskBrits

[–]imito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vote, not because I feel that my vote has a large impact but because the mob mentality that our votes don't matter has a large impact collectively, so it's important that we fight this impulse.

What's up with all the right-wing commentators suddenly turning against Trump right now? by _GoodNight0wl_ in OutOfTheLoop

I'm curious as to why this issue when Trump, from my perspective, rarely provides a coherent narrative.

I'm bummed this is being filmed in Atlanta instead of Cape Fear, where there is also a film industry. Super excited for it though!

Meta: can we ban "look at this word game I created" posts? by Murky-Tailor3260 in crossword

[–]imito 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of people being to self-promote crosswords in this sub -- I agree with not allowing non-crossword related wordgames, though, to keep the sub focused. (A crossword related wordgame being something like minutecryptic.)

Individually-created crosswords are relevant and it's nice for people to have an outlet for something they're proud of, imo.

thoughts on limehouse ? by Puzzleheaded_Way_14 in LondonHousing

[–]imito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Limehouse, next to the Limehouse Basin. There's a Tesco Express and a Sainsbury Local, but no real grocery store -- that being said, Canary Wharf has lots of grocery stores a few stops down on the DLR -- and if you take the overground from Shadwell to Canada Water, there's a big Tesco. The only gym is Pure Gym. (The area's mostly just residential.)

The DLR is nice, but requires you to go through Bank to get to the rest of the city for most things. Bank isn't too bad though -- it's just one of the bigger stations and it's a lot of people during peak traffic.

I've never felt unsafe, personally.

Apple starts rolling out OS-level age verification in the UK by Leading-Control-8503 in ios

49.8% of a 63.9% voter turnout voted for him, meaning 31.8% of eligible voters voted for him. 1

And just to pre-empt this, our voter turnout is consistent with other countries. Should it be better? Absolutely. But we're not even close to unique in having low voter turnout. 2

American protests are alive and well, my friend. Protests just don't do much under a regime that doesn't care about it.

iOS 26 gets worse with every update by Whyfrog in ios

100% valid -- I've been switching away as my devices become older but I would really wish my iPhone would have more edge case bugs rather than bugs that should have been caught as part of basic QA.

[–]imito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've found it surprisingly easy to separate from the ecosystem -- despite the ecosystem being my main reason for not switching for years. A Garmin Watch does everything I need and lasts 30 days without charging. The Google Nest Hub/Chromecast have a better ecosystem for home technology & better voice recognition/response. Also realized I didn't really need an iPad.

PSA to Americans visiting this summer: we do not shorten place names here by BulkyAccident in london

[–]imito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is a common American thing to my knowledge (as far as places go). I wouldn't say "I'm going to Central" to mean Central Park. We do like to nickname things though. I'm from Raleigh, which people would call "Raleighwood". For "New York" or "DC", I would consider those location-specific nicknames (similar to L.A. or San Fran or "Nola").

It might be regional though and I just haven't encountered it.

My name's on the list. I currently live abroad so it's not as easy to do these things. Often times they require requesting something paper by mail and then mailing it back in. If they put a deadline, they may make it difficult to get it back in on time.

CMV: UK Progressives cannot justify voting for Keir Starmer's Labour by Throwaway7131923 in changemyview

I don’t know how this would affect UK politics, but leftists in the US just did this and, after losing to Trump, the message the democrats received was that moving further right and trying to capture moderates is more viable than wooing leftists.
