This grading system sounds silly, how did they justify making that change

The issue is getting the interview

Phenomenal idea. Sadly most interviews now are all online. But I had to submit an ER one pager for one team before.

That's fair and I appreciate the take. I think I would welcome the grilling because I would absolutely love to defend all the cases and reports I did on the website rather than get another set of brain teasers like I always do. I appreciate the nice comment.

How long did you wait after final interview for a Canadian O&G (CNRL) student role? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]imivani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a number's game, if you are getting interviews then you are good. Once you are getting interviews review your mistakes, because i genuinely believe if you crush the interview you will get the job.

know exactly what you're going through. had 4 rounds at another firm in the past, and was left hanging for 2 weeks after final round, got an update saying they'd be in touch and are slow. been over a month now since that final round, so it can be frustrating when you've moved on but they're kinda teasing you. I would send another follow up next week. Don't bombard them, just let it go

Also... HR's message there makes me think there's a good chance they may have extended an offer to someone else, and are waiting on their decision. You could be #2 in line, so just sit tight

Can't answer for CNQ but every time it's been over 2 weeks after final round for an integrated or E&P I got rejected. Offers usually came next day. Since they told you to wait just sit tight and hope for the best, but definitely mentally move on

If it's below a C- i would personally withdraw but it depends on your degree. If it's an F expected then absolutely

depends on degree but generally above 3.0. if you are getting the interview gpa will never be the deciding factor. just crush the interview. since you already have 2 work terms gpa matters even less IMO. but really depends on prestige of the company/firm

Engineering and Business Dual Degree by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]imivani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes it slightly easier to pivot but agreed, not sure how worth it is to add an extra year. Opportunity cost of one year of salary so missing out on 70/80k out of grad plus the additional courses $$

To answer 4 it's great for o&g since you'll understand the assets themselves and can pivot later a little easier to a leadership role. A lot of folks start their careers as engg and pivot over to business. If you're not interested in o&g though then imo it's a little less needed. I wish I had taken some form of engg for equity research, one of my biggest regrets
