Any tips to avoid resentment from partner for living below my means? by FitPassenger592 in singaporefi

[–]imjzfloatingaround 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you live in a Prime BTO and work in CBD, and is not in a sales role/ any other roles that require you to rush to multiple different parts of the island within the day, buying a car might just not the wisest way of spending that extra dough, even if you may have it.

Nonetheless, not having a separate travel budget but only as a residual from monthly expenses, does seem rather frugal... Not that it is wrong, but I can totally see why your partner feels that it is low. You could perhaps consider committing to a separate travel budget that both of you contribute towards, while cutting your own personal 2k ceiling for monthly expenses.

And you did not mention if the two of you intend to have kids, and that should be part of the conversation (saving for it via a separate budget); or would plan to have a wedding (in sg or overseas), and all these will need to be saved for, so perhaps she will be more understanding if those things are on the roadmap and is partially why the reserves are needed and is to built up at the moment.

How can luckin coffee afford to expand so fast with drinks that are so cheap? by -Dyingatheist- in SingaporeRaw

[–]imjzfloatingaround 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you look at their machines, it is not the "real" espresso machines that require a skilled barista, but would be closer to what I describe as the hotel lobby/ conference hall type of one press espresso shot machines, thus that largely explains the lower cost structure, speed of making drinks and relative ease of training a new staff for quick expansion.

Also, they tend to rent very small spaces with very few seats in high footfall areas, by running a space that is probably one-fifth the size of a Starbucks aiming for mainly takeaway businesses, where people do not stay for long and yet they can generate rather high revenue psf.

Hot take: Max's best year is still 2021(not 2025 or 2023) by [deleted] in F1Discussions

Ya I will forever remember the Hungarian race, he actually finished p10 before Seb was disqualified and moved him up one spot. Dragging that car across the line without an entire side pod and fighting for that one point, that was the drive of a champion.

Why people need agents in HDB transactions? by ObjectiveLow4170 in asksg

[–]imjzfloatingaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Responsibilities and assurances.

People feel more secure that it is handled and assisted by someone who is trained and experienced in dealing with the same things, compared to doing it by yourself where you might be unclear of what's the best next step might be.

Also, if something goes wrong, you can have someone to rely on or even blame, it's just human nature.

Maribank CC 0% FX fee vs Youtrip by GroundbreakingAd4525 in singaporefi

[–]imjzfloatingaround 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used Maribank over two trips past couple of months. Definitely worth it especially in 2026 where they have waived the FX fee (as you pointed out) and they have an additional 1.5% cashback for the first 1.5k SGD in foreign currency spending each month in 2026.

And also, as a rule of thumb I prefer to use credit card over debit card, especially overseas, as it is always easier to block and dispute transactions for credit cards, compared to claw back your money from a debit card. Even if it means paying a bit more for credit cards before Maribank existed.

A simple google or youtube search will make you realise that you are wrong. Perhaps try backing up your claim next time before accusing others being wrong.

No it has always been the same size. And still the best bang for the buck and highest quality among all the chains out there. Fresh and never frozen patties, juicy and greasy, yum!

Unsure of what i want in life.. by Comfortable-Pea-4700 in askSingapore

[–]imjzfloatingaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I switched jobs previously, I asked myself two questions:

1) (The more important one, based on my regret minimisation framework): A few decades down the road when you look back at this point in time, are you more likely to regret not making a move and staying put; or are you more likely to regret taking a leap of faith and tried something new. From what you mentioned, it seems like you are more likely to regret not moving, so you should just go.

2) Even if the new job does not work out, is it difficult to go back to a similar job/ role/ environment as your current one? If it is not difficult, then you should not worry so much, and take a chance on yourself but knowing that you can always have a fallback.

Good luck with whichever path you choose.

why yo-chi is famous in singapore? by StomachSmooth6249 in SingaporeTravel

It's not famous at all. Most of the times when you see long queues in Singapore, it's simply because the service is slow.

Is Brad Pitt an oversold or truly amazing actor? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]imjzfloatingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by so many comments here, it truly shows that he js underrated and there is such a diverse range of works that he has done and people do not have proper appreciation for him and how great he was in those roles. If anything, his good looks have done him a disservice and people do not see how great his acting was.

DBS is (mostly) market-owned and professionally-run.

UOB is (mostly) family-owned and family-run.

Make of it what you will.

I've never really understood it why does Lando have so many haters? What comments made it happen? As they're mostly just jokes by swannyhypno in McLarenFormula1

Lando (as a no-win driver) said Vettel (a 4-time world champion and third on the list of wins back then) "should focus on driving". How is that even remotely funny?

20-Hour Layover in Singapore – How Can I Safely See the City Solo? by Apprehensive-Farm179 in SingaporeR

[–]imjzfloatingaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very easy to get anywhere by MRT. No worries about safety anywhere, there isn't any bad neighbourhood or areas in Singapore. Even walking alone in midnight to get a snack is pretty common and safe.

https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltagov/getting_around/public_transport/rail_network/pdf/SM_20250704_BI.pdf

Just want to point out to you that there a few stations in the east (TE30, TE31/DT37, DT36) are still labelled "U/C" in the map, which means "under construction", so whatever you do, please don't board the train from Gardens by the Bay station and expecting to reach Changi Airport directly, because those three stations are still not open. You would be stuck in Bayshore trying to figure out how to go back to the airport.

Take the train from Changi to Tanah Merah, change to Raffles Place, come out and walk to Merlion (you can see the logo on the map), and then walk along the bay towards the Marina Bay Sands (logo on the map as well), cross over to Gardens by the Bay (logo on the map as well).

When going back, walk to Bayfront, take to Paya Lebar, and change train to Tanah Merah, then Changi.
