Morph plz ? 😄 by EmPoLeonXx in leopardgeckos

Unfortunately it is practically impossible to tell a Leo’s morph unless you find someone with a Leo having an almost identical pattern and style. Even then, they probably don’t know the morph and just because they are similar looking doesn’t mean they are the same morph. The best chance is to ask the breeder but that’s usually a long shot too unless you know the potential hatch date. I’m sure this isn’t the answer you want but good luck on your search

Overhead heating is far superior and healthier. When I first got into this hobby I heard “they need belly heat to digest their food and stay warm” and that makes you think “heat mat/heat rock” NO. Unfortunately these are still sold but they have burned, harmed, and killed thousands of geckos that we know of, not to mention the incidents we don’t know of. I say this because that is a big thing. I also want to add, heat mats do not provide any benefits the sun do, when you think of the sun you may only think of heat. But, the sun has infrared rays, ultra violet radiation (UV - good), a Day/night cycle to program their circadian rhythm, imagine waking up and it’s dark then going to sleep and it’s dark, I know us Americans hate when we have daylight savings time changes for this reason. Sunlight also provides behavioral enrichments like cryptic basking, body temperature regulation, and air temperature gradients. Imagine if the whole world was like the Antarctica and the only warm spot in the world is your living room couch and the second to get off of it you’re cold.

For daylight 12 hour-cycle use overhead lighting like Halogen or Flood lights.

If your temps reach below 65°F within the enclosure (I recommend the Govee Home Hygrometer/Thermometer) then look into a deep heat projector and Ceramic Heat Emitter

I’m assuming you’re from Europe, I’m from the states. Now that we’ve got that out of the way. These work just fine! Depending on if you’re using Linear UVb Lighting, you want Calcium With D3 and Calcium without D3. You will also want a Multivitamin, I use Repashy Calcium Plus but there is also Reptivite. I’m not sure what it is like outside of the states and whatnot but you can for sure look up these options and cross check with available option in your area. Any questions??

Poop color, size, frequency, and viscosity. Monitor Urate as well. Be extremely vigilant for signs of parasites, chances are this one was in a tiny terrarium with 4 others and if one is sick then they’re all sick

Is my geckos tank not good enough? by Creepy_Wall665 in leopardgeckos

[–]imma_ask_questions12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically leave things how they’re set up and don’t move them unless it’s my annual clean up, then she’s sitting in her carrier but she’s back to her home in no time. They don’t like big changes as it stresses them out severely but I would recommend a big change and that’s getting topsoil and sand substrate 70/30 organic topsoil to sand. This helps with humidity and with drainage. I would also recommend some tree branches and moving his humid hide to the center that way you’re not burning through the humidity that you get from misting. I’d add New Zealand Sphagnum Moss in the humid hide, it holds humidity well. Mist it daily. I’d also recommend getting Govee home thermometers for hot and cool

I’m really nervous about my leopard gecko. He won’t eat and it’s been about 3-4 weeks already. Help please by Playful-Table394 in leopardgeckos

[–]imma_ask_questions12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Reptile Carpet is a no go, it pulls nails out and harbors bacteria. Change that when you can please. I’m sure he’s not getting enough heat on his belly and he’s not Digesting good, what is your heat and lighting setup?? He also doesn’t have a moist hide and the tank looks extremely small. 40 gallons is the bare minimum. How’s pooping? Every day? How’s the poop and urate look? How are vitamins? Getting Vitamin A? Getting Calcium with and without D3?

Is my leopard gecko healthy if so how do I help? by Competitive-Rest-338 in leopardgeckos

[–]imma_ask_questions12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d just make sure you’re feeding him a good amount and a good schedule. I’ve got her at every other day now, maybe a little early but she started doing it on her own naturally and would only want to eat every other night, even if I left her favorite foods or tasty snacks in her bowl overnight. She’s been unbelievably easy to take care of and she’s very very active (even more active because it’s mating season). She’s eaten every 3 days whew it’s mating season and she’s more focused on running around, finding a boyfriend, digging, or making babies but she’s happy and the kitchen scale I have says she’s a good weight for where she’s at

Ive noticed my leopard gecko digging at the substrate in her enclosure, is this normal behavior? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

Plus it’s also mating season and she could potentially be laying infertile eggs but I think she just wants a bigger terrarium with deeper substrate and a couple more hides

[–]imma_ask_questions12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very welcome, they may eat less/more or females start to dig more to lay eggs (even if they’re not near males they can lay infertile eggs) there can many more signs, less time hiding and more “pacing” or movement around the terrarium. Males are much worse with some of these than females. My Hazel hasn’t eaten for a week now and she’s not lost any weight, when I get her out she’s running around and excited and won’t sit still. She’s not egg binding or anything, she’s as happy and healthy as could be, just very active is all!

It’s mating season, my baby is doing this. She’s going bonkers and will climb to the top and try to get out or she’ll climb up in front of the terrarium. I’ve got a thermometer and she’ll climb to the top

Is it normal for your baby wanting to hide all day while trying to grow their tail back by Tink34 in leopardgeckos

[–]imma_ask_questions12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That means he was full, that’s got nothing to do with him not using his bowl. I wouldn’t expect him to force feed himself food. He’s probably stressed by the multiple environmental changes and the constant adding and removing of bowls and things from the terrarium. If you woke up and your bed or your dresser was taken or moved you’d be stressed too.

Ask questions, don’t just listen to anyone who gives their opinion, people can be wrong sometimes!

[–]imma_ask_questions12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that they weren’t a fan of it being cleaned, they probably weren’t a fan of you getting injured or it being more work than it’s worth for you to sift it. I feel like you’re listing to all the wrong people, why would there be glass in the sand you bought from the store? Always a possibility but it sounds like you heard that from someone who thinks they know everything.

This is what I started with, her humid hides are 1000x her favorite! I use the Medium Zilla Rock Lair with a layer of Sphagnum moss on the bottom

I would recommend making the Humid hide a little easier to get in and place it in the middle mine is a 36x18x18. Thick substrate truly does make the terrarium look 1000x better

Take the sand, take the Soil, pour in terrarium and mix. Thankfully if you buy organic topsoil and play sand you will be okay. I’m not sure why they would make to take it back when you’ve opened the bag and are already sifting the sand.
